YIKES! Kevin did it again! The beloved sequel to Home Alone is now an adorable picture book for the whole family.
It's the holidays and Kevin doesn't want to go on his family vacation to Florida. Amid the chaos and confusion of the airport, he accidentally boards the wrong plane and ends up alone (again!) in New York City. Kevin goes sightseeing, checks into a hotel, and enjoys limo rides, all courtesy of his dad's credit card. But then he makes a shocking discovery: the burglars who tried to rob his house last year are back, and this time they plan to rob a toy store on Christmas Eve! Can Kevin stop them and save Christmas with the help of some new friends? Charmingly illustrated by Kim Smith, this sweet and funny adaptation will delight fans of the Home Alone franchise, young and old alike.
I've always prefered the sequel more and so it wasn't a surprised that I found it to be the case with this Pop Classics picture book.
I felt that Home Alone didn't quite capture all the memorable scenes from the first movie and whilst I don't expect them to include everything, this certainly hit all the right beats.
It's just the little nods in the illustrations that make this more enjoyable, for example the video cassette cover of the fictional movie 'Angels with Even Filthier Souls' can clearly be seen whilst Kevin was enjoying room service.
Kevin's trip around New York is also well captured, especially with the World Trade Centre just mentioned as the tallest building - those having seen the film will get the reference.
Another great entry in this very enjoyable nostalgic series.
Acho essa coleção de filmes clássicos dos anos 90 no formato de livros infantis tão fofinha. Amei que agora tem Home Alone 2 para reler todos os anos :) (além de rever os filmes, reler os livros já entrou na lista de o que fazer todo ano)
Unlike my last review of Karate Kid by Quirk books, this picture book Home Alone 2, I grew up on and is still one of my favorite Christmas movies to watch every year. Because of my love for Home Alone, I am biased and gave this book 5 stars. Thank you to Quirk books for providing me with this copy for an honest review.
I rarely review picture books unless I have to share them to the world for either my book reviewing hobby or as a mom I have come across many books that need to shared with the rest of the world because they are just sooo good. When I rate picture books my general criteria is Illustrations, Moral of the story, how much my kids liked the book, how much fun it was to read.
On to the review. This is my second Pop Classics picture book I've reviewed that are published by Quirk and I'm guessing in all ten of these cute children's takes of class movies, the books will be broken down into beginning, middle and end. The adaptation from movie to children's story is done well in Home Alone 2, the script was broken down into easy bite sized pieces to keep the child engaged. In the middle of the story it says, "At an abandoned house nearby, he made a plan.", in the movie it's his uncle's house that is being remolded or at least that is what I always thought, but they don't say that. They call it an abandoned house nearby. It's to the point. Which is good for young children. They don't need to know the Uncle isn't in town and his house is being renovated and is too much info, keep it simile.
My favorite part of the movie is when Marv is covered in paint and goes to the sink to wash his face and gets electrocuted. When he looks up through the ceiling and yells "Haaaweeee??" instead of Harry and his voice is all wobbly that, to this day cracks me up. When I recieved this picture book in the mail, I ripped open the package and flipped through the pages looking for that particular scene. It was nowhere to be found. Which was a bummer, but I get it. Again, this is a picture book for smaller kids. All of the trips and falls that happen to Marv and Harry in the movie are toned down and not so violent. So the brick throwing scene where Marv gets hit in the face is also missing from this picture book. Booo!! Just kidding.
Last thing I want to address is again the beginning, middle and end sequence. We are getting snippets of the movie here so a lot is missing. There is no mention of the family looking for Kevin or being worried that he was in a different state. It also doesn't address the rest of the McCalister family that is also with Kevin's parents and siblings. The book also doesn't talk about how Mr. Duncan knew it was Kevin that saved his store. In the movie it obviously shows this, but in the book it's missing.
I know I'm not the demographic for this picture book, but it was a lot of fun to read, the illustrations are adorable and colorful and now I have a book on one of my favorite Christmas movies. I'm happy about that. Whether you like the movie, there is a Christmas tree in the book, so this book is always good to read to your kids during the holidays teehee.
This is the same as the first book that was based on the first movie.. so same review pretty much, nice illustrations, pointless script and idea for a storybook.
I love the Pop Classics series. Especially Home Alone 1 and 2. They have also done The Karate Kid and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You have to love that. Incredibly entertaining and fun.

Kevin, an elementary aged kid, boards a different plan than his family and ends up in New York while his family is in Florida. Kevin takes advantage of the situation and stays in a fancy hotel and orders room service. When he runs into burglars at the toy story he has a plan to trap them.
This book parallels the plot of the movie closely so there are no major plot surprises. It was hard to separate out the movie and I’m not sure the book has as much value given the movie’s existence, but it was still a fun book to read with charming illustrations.
I love that Kim Smith made the sequel to the first adaptation, Home Alone: The Classic Illustrated Storybook! She has great timing as kids who loved these movies when they were kids are now having kids of their own. Not sure if many kids today will have seen the movies, but either way, Kevin gives us a great Christmas adventure in the streets of New York City. True to the movie all the way to the classic ending.
My thoughts on this second Home Alone illustrated storybook are identical to the first:
"As a Home Alone enthusiast, this is a must-have book for my collection! It has absolutely STUNNING illustrations but the story is cut down so much that its missing a lot of the elements that make its movie counterpart a classic.
This is obviously a children's storybook and would be a great introduction to the franchise if a younger reader hasn't watched the film yet. But for the greater population who has grown up with the slapstick comedy, this doesn't add much to the Home Alone experience aside from beautiful artwork."
I love this Christmas classic so much. One detail that is different in the book from the movie is that in the book it states that Kevin is looking for a tissue as the family is racing through the airport. In the movie Kevin is looking for batteries to a video camera. This detail does not distract from the overall story. The story is a great family read for the holidays. The illustrations throughout this book are superb. I really enjoyed the art style of this book.
Got this for my kiddo for Christmas. He loves the Home Alone movies. ( 1&2) We got the first book either last year or year before.
This was fun, but I am disappointed that they put the reason he ended up on the wrong plane was because Kevin stopped for a tissue instead of looking for batteries. Then they said the house he set traps in was abandoned instead of his Uncle's house. ( I think the Uncle was named Rob, and he was in Paris while the house was being renovated in the movie.)
I am obsessed with the illustrations of this book and the way they showcase New Yokr from Kevin's perspective is cute my only gripe is the family tbh. This book really shows how irresponsible the parents coz in what universe does it make sense to run around the airport without letting the kids hold hands?
Great illustrations. However as a long time fan of the movies who thinks Home Alone 2 was the best film of the franchise the author took liberties with the story in an effort to condense it. which left a bit to be desired. Nonetheless this book was a nice easy read and a great way to start December
Parfait pour faire découvrir ce classique des films de Noël des années '90s aux jeunes et moins jeunes! Dans la même collection, il y a aussi le premier "Maman j'ai raté l'avion" et "SOS Fantômes" vient tout juste de sortir!
Super cute! So normally I trying to figure out how closely the movie matches the book 🎥 this time you try to figure out how closely the book matches the movie. This easy read sums up the book perfectly in under 5 minutes. The pictures are fabulous as well.
Pop Classics returns with their 7th book, Home Alone: Lost In New York, based on the beloved second movie in the Home Alone film series. Capturing the fun and magic of the movie, this Pop Classics picture book will delight and amuse young readers with its outrageously fun antics and story. All of which is brought to life through Smith’s adorable and silly illustrations.
Bought this book for my son to go with the first one. I personally liked this one more than the other one and again, the illustrations were adorable. We had a really good time reading it!
I still LOVE the illustrations! Wonderful. In the sequel, there we're fewer deviations from the movie, which I appreciated. The last page was an absolute hit for storytime! ;)
