--A COMPLETE STANDALONE - INCLUDES HEART SO RECKLESS VALENTINES DAY NOVELLA—

Redmon Stokes is a man about his money. Raised by the streets, he’s a natural born hustler who plans to secure every dollar that he can get his hands on. That doesn’t leave room for much else, except the streets.

Peyson Cross is the epitome of a strong, successful black woman. She has worked hard to make a name for herself with a career that allows her the finer things in life, excluding the love and affection of a man who truly knows her worth. When fate intervenes, Red and Peyson share one night that changes both of their lives…

The burning question is, will that change be for better or worse? That can’t be determined until that one night ends and the reality begins.

All is fair in love and war until one battle of the heart ignites a war in your soul, making it a lot harder to simply just surrender to love.

Heart So Reckless was a good but, frustrating read. That damn Peyson and Red tapped danced on my last nerve. After each of their significant other does them dirty on Valentin's Day, Red talks Peyson into a one night stand that results in an unplanned pregnancy. While they were intensely attracted to each other, Red lets it be known they could have nothing past that one night so Peyson keeps her pregnancy a secret. Queue the nosey sister. Pree thinks it’s unfair that Peyson won’t tell Red about the baby so, she does it for her. The drama that follows once he finds out about the baby is just childish and ridiculous. Peyson and Red are the epitome of opposites attract. She comes from a wealthy family and he’s a big time drug dealer who was raised by his Grandmother. A huge part of their problem was communication. Instead of having adult conversations about their issues, Peyson and Red let misunderstandings, pride, and lies by omission keep them apart unnecessarily. They just would not talk to each other. The two of them drove me insane. I didn’t think they were ever going to get their shyt together but, after a conversation with Mr. Cross, Red finally mans ups and admits his true feelings to Peyson. Whew chile! The road to their HEA was a struggle. Red was definitely a flawed man but, there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for Peyson. Pree and Lobo stole the book. They were the sister and BFF we all deserve. Heart So Reckless was a great book and I recommend you add it to your TBR.

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be for the lovers. However for Peyson and Red, this was for a wild night of passionate fkn. They were both in failed relationships and looking for just one night of fun to forget every thing and every body. Peyson was with a lame äss nigga that was cheating on her every chance he got all while she supported his dreams and used her money to build his company. Red was with a bum bîtch that he called himself surprising for V-day only to get the surprise of his life when he walked into the restaurant and found sis boo’d up in the corner with another nïgga.

Red and Peyson agreed on one night. But that one night turned into 18 years when she ended up knocked up. To make matters worse, Red didn’t find out until Peyson’s sister called him from the hospital while Peyson was in labor. My man was HEATED but he stepped up in a major way. Despite being from two world, him from the streets raised by his grandmother and her from a 2 parent home that was well off financially, these two had a magnetic connection that they couldn’t deny if they wanted to.

Peyson and Red worked my MF nerves. They just could not put their stubbornness aside in order to make the relationship they both clearly wanted work! The back and forth was exhausting and it seemed like the only thing they could agree on and do right by was their daughter. Their road to HEA was a stressful one but in the end it all worked out. This was a really good story and the narrators for the audiobook did a good job bringing the story to life!

I really really enjoyed this book. Both narrators were new to me and I thought they did a great job (and I'm hard on narrating).

A night for love

It's Valentine's Day and your trash azz boyfriend misses his flight due to "work" and you are stuck at an event for lovers. However, fate is on your side because a fine chocolate king of a man happens to also have a trash partner and both of you are available for a night. Baby this night together was more than either of them expected. Having been able to connect with a stranger more than the partners they had been entertaining for years.

These two made more than physical magic that night and were left with a sweet little package. This isn't usually my trope, BUT I was so glad the mmc did not make it easy on the fmc. Finally, make em sweat for the bs they clearly were on. These two were from two different worlds and I enjoyed them both finding a place in the world together.

Peyson was living in her own head most of the book. She was wrong for how she handled my boo, Red. He had his ways about him, but honestly there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for her, but she was so caught up on his words that she missed his actions.

They changed each other in so many ways.
Peyson made Red want more out of life and showed him what love is.
Red showed Peyson that she couldn't live in her head and that closed mouth don't get fed.
If she wants something she has to speak on it.

I enjoyed this audiobook on hoopla. Red was my favorite character. Street dude, thug or whatever you want to say i enjoyed him. He didn’t play and kept it 100. Well that’s until his feelings got in play and the same for Peyson. Their bedroom chemistry was for sure there and i liked the storyline. The people Red and Pey were dealing with really were trash. So why not give a one stand a chance.

I wish they had a deeper connection with deeper conversations. Loved Reds backstory and his grandma. Also loved Peyton’s sister and much respect to her father. However, these two played with telling each other how they truly felt. Which left the story to be dragged out a little and the ending to time jump. Peyson though really got on my nerves. Like girl i know you never been this age before but get it together. Stop moving like your clueless. Men have feelings too and women like her can ruin good men.

There is a HEA and giving a happy family. Check it out.

Standalone or not I wanted more!

Pey and Red were everything once they got it together. I LOVED how they met and I loved how they found their "way back to each other". The little dance they were doing was driving me crazy! Like they wasn't even mad for real. Just wasting time, lol.

What's his name sucked and I wanted to beat him up talking about I could learn to love her. Boy!!!

My favorite part of the whole book was Pey's dad going to Red behind her back welcoming him into the family. That part was so sweet because he definitely gave him the family he was missing and one he thought would be so hard to find.

I want more of Pree, she was definitely interesting to me and I loved how she stood up for her sister and did what was best for her.

Reckless editing

I didn’t mind the story line, it’s not my favorite trope, but it had potential. Peyson and Red meet on a night where they both are essentially being cheated on. What was meant to last only a night blossomed into more. Red and Peyson’s are brought back together and figuring out how their worlds collide. I was actually more interested in Red investing money and getting out of the game. I wish we had more on paper scenarios of Red learning and exploring with Peyson’s dad.

What did drive me crazy was the lack,of editing. For me, the misspelled words, repetitive text within the same paragraph, the inconsistency in details and character contradictions made the book difficult to enjoy.

This book felt like it should still be in the beta and editing phase.

Why was the epilogue in 3rd person?

Peyson was annoying. How old is she cause how can you be confident but immature in your thinking. She stayed paranoid in her head jumping to conclusions it was exhausting.
One night. Is all they agreed to. They both wanted more but not able to be honest about it so they each went about the business of trying to forget but couldn’t. Love on the first night my kind of story.

She was embarrassed/ashamed. She was in her feelings. She was wrong.
He was mad as hell.
Can they recover? Can they finally be honest and admit they both want more and stop reacting first and asking questions later?

There where some time gaps or maybe uncompleted scenes… sometimes it felt like the story just jumped from one thing to another with no transition.

If you love a love at first sight or love on the first night story then this one is for you. Oh they have lots of nasty sex, the good kind.

Annoying Female Main Character

This book could have been amazing, but Peyson truly ruined it for me. The constant back-and-forth of whether they will or won't be together drove me crazy. They spent 75% of the book at odds with each other, 15% having sex, and 10% in an actual relationship. MAJORITY of the issues stemmed from Peyson being selfish, childish, or just altogether problematic.

Also, I don't know who needs to hear this, but women who put their hands on their male partners in violence, UNPROVOKED, are the bottom of the barrel. Keep your hands to yourself and use your words- you grown; regulate your emotions. Like Lobo said, Peyson would have had her lawyer on the phone asap if Red smacked her around like that unprovoked with no questions asked.

Other than that, everything was well written with minimal grammatical errors.

Peyson is wrong on so many levels. Red should give her his ass to kiss. Not only once but twice now she played in his face because she’s a coward. I don’t respect her.

I got respect for Dax bc his daughter ain’t shit. His wife probably isn’t either. I wonder if he’s so understanding bc he came from the streets too or he’s just a really decent person. Either way big ups to him.

Peyson somewhat redeemed herself.

The whole Sasha thing at the house was crazy. Peyson had ever right to be pissed bc Red would’ve been. Her only error was putting hands on him. She should have just cussed him out bc he was acting like a little bitch knowing damn well if the roles were reversed he’d lose his shit.

Glad everything worked out in the end.

Oh my god!!! This was so over the top awsome..Make me reckless!!!

This book right here, MS. Mills you did it again, and again, and again... Every time I picked one of your standalone, I know I am going to either dream, cry, wish, and live off of that story for a while. So with no further a do, how can I get a Redmon "Red" Stokes as well? Man, that man...
Red was the epitome bad ass, alpha male, thug, boss man, kingpin, don, and any other adjective deserving to praise a man like him needed to be added to his name. And from every description, every time he was being described, I was heated, I can only imagine having the real life person in front of you will do to you... Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!!!
Peyson, was so real and so down to earth. It was so refreshing how MS. Mills bought an every day occurrence out in this book and made it work with this "underworld"; simply amazing. Peyson, came from a good semi rich family, but didn't flaunt it. She was independent, beautiful, educated, had her own work and life going on, and meeting Red did not put her back; if nothing it made her be more grounded that being all this goody to shoe was not an handicapped.... Loved it....
This book was really sweet, insightful and just down right added to another of my favorite from MS. Mills. This is how great author works and it is so refreshing when you know you are in a ride of your life when you have a MS. Mills original standalone at your disposal...
Pree was so the best of everything and I can't wait If she will get hooked up with Leonard "lobo"... This would be fun.... And Boyce needs some one too, because I love how quiet and virile he projects to be. Between Audrey, Dax, Ann and Nan, this clan will have to always be in their best behavior, and that's what's up!!! Perfect, MS. Mills, just PERFECT!

4.5/5 🌟
2/5 🌶️

I ate this book up!! I finished it in two short days! Went to bed reading it, woke up reading it, showered with my kindle to keep reading and cooked while reading it. 😂

This was my first time reading a book by KC Mills and I cannot wait to read more of her books.

I LOVE me a good urban love story and have read quite a few but this one, this one I found myself nodding and shaking my head bc it seemed so real. The dialogue between Red and Peyson felt so realistic. There were multiple times where I was reading the dialogue and caught myself chuckling bc I pictured it happening between them or between my husband and I.

I enjoyed the contrast in their relationship. They both grew up opposite upbringings but the love and passion between them were undeniable. I love that while they came from different places, not once did they disrespect or act like they were above one another. The respect they had for each other was very admirable.

I was a HUGE fan of Pree. Everyone needs a Pree. That sista is one that stuck by her sister and spoke the truth when it needed to be heard. I loved the support she had for Peyson from the beginning. It would even be nice to have a part 2 with her and Lobo. 🫣🙌🏽

While I’m not big on pregnancy tropes from one night stands, this story was written soo beautifully with a HEA.

I was soo happy for Peyson and Red’s at the end with their growing family and appreciated the minimal drama with her parents and the role they played in Peyson and Red’s relationship.

This was truly the perfect Urban romance with the perfect balance of street life, drama, and spice!!

What a one night stand can do for your life!!! Peyson is a strong successful woman who doesn’t know real love or self worth. Red is a man that makes his own rules and lives by the streets.

How the two meet was the most random way that could very well be really someone’s love story. The two have a lot of shit that is thrown at them and fast and don’t know how to handle it all in the beginning. However the two try and make room and space for one another in their own worlds while still trying to be true to who they are and stand on their beliefs.

I like how Red stood up to Peyson because sis was giving very much im looking for family validation and cared way to much about how people viewed her choices than she needed to. Whereas Red was willing to check anyone who even thought of a question to question him and what he has going on. Even after you get pass the differences and challenges and road bumps that the two have to face, you’re able to see that this storyline is more relatable than anything how a miscommunication can turn into an altercation. Then you also have how not actually saying how you feel and what you want can also cause a problem. Very relatable very good very much things that happen in every day relationships

a great read

This love story is different, but amazingly. From two people who come from different worlds Redmon stokes comes from the hood of ATL ..and Peyson who her world comes from the Rich side of ATL . On this Valentines day two of these lovely people right here were in a bar at the right time on break ups. They got together, and I actually connected and fell in love that same night.. none want to admit the full attraction they had for one another, as a result a beautiful daughter was conceived that very night and that’s where the reconnection is reinforced between these two. through the obstacles, of her family approval of red, and where he’s judge, he stand his ground and let no one put him down. he’s a standup guy and I love the fact that he loves hard and goes hard for her and their children. I’m happy to see the outcome it was greater than the drama.

👩‍🦯read

WHICH PROBABLY WASNT A GOOD IDEA because the N word was on page 5 and I was like WTF?! Then looked up the author and took a deep breath. 😮‍💨

Also I think it’s important that you know Red is from “the streets” and owns “the streets” it was only talked about 158 times in the first chapter.

There is no plot to this book. Also… she cums giving him a blow job which is just the most absurd thing I’ve ever read 🙄

Idk I just got so bored, there wasn’t really anything happening but I was holding out in hopes something interesting got on. But no… it was about how a one night stand ended with a baby and they fell in love despite the fact he sells drugs. It was just dumb. Finally I just gave up. Called the quits at 72%

because the first few chapters interested me, I’ll give it two stars

Thug love is the best love!

Red was straight up a thug and a drug dealer. What were the odds that Peyson would meet him on Valentine's day and flip her world upside down in one night! That is exactly what happened and they struggled because they were total opposites but in the end they found true love and it was such a great read! My only complaint a lot of grammatical errors, hence the 4 star rating. That was distracting at times but a very good storyline!

5/11/25

I didn't realize I read this book but it was just as good if not better this time! Peyson and Red got together in such an unconventional way but they just worked! I really enjoyed their story and how it ended!

Omg

This standalone is so 🔥🔥🔥🔥. My boy Red was mad at first but when his eyes landed on Reid that made all of it go away. I’m happy that him and my girl got their happily ever after going on. Her mom and dad pissed me off at first. But I’m so happy her dad went to him man to man and that her mom changed her mind as well and called him and talked to him. He was planning on getting outta the game but babygirl and her mom made it happen much faster. U did good on yet another book and I can’t wait to read more of ur books. Sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and eating popcorn while waiting on the next book

Red!!!!

I loved this book from beginning to end. Red and Peyson were definitely made for each other. They were total opposites, but the love they had for each other bloomed into something beautiful. I was in my feelings for a while, because it seemed as if they couldn’t get it together. To start as a one night stand and end with a happily ever after was the perfect love story. I am definitely in love with Mr. Redmon Stokes! I love that he was hood through and through but treated his woman with care, but was also intelligent and could adapt to his surroundings and fit in with the wealthy. Great story and as always amazing job by the author!

Another one

If you don’t like secret baby/pregnancy this book may not be for you. If you don’t like insta love then this book may not be for you. If you don’t like urban romance then this book definitely isn’t for you. Wtbs Red got the biggest lick back when he seen his “girl” out on a date with another man on Valentine’s Day. He spotted peyson across the room & offered her one wild night but not only did he deliver on his promise but he gave her something extra too 🤰🏾 This book was frustrating & good at the same time. Frustrating because Red & Peyson had this tug & pull thing going on but also good for the same reason 😂 K.C. Mills did it again.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly BUT I hate when a simple conversation is the solution. Red was the big bad wolf on the streets but couldn't open his mouth, and in some ways lacked accountability for his actions. I get why Peyson did what she did, but again, open your mouth and say what needs to be said. Low key I wanted Red to put his foot up Lionus's ssa cause he was stuck on stupid and not getting the clues at all! But for Red to be a street dude, and to be a high level drug dealer, I expected him to be more calculating in his response and not so hot headed like he was when he cursed out her parents and left lol. I'm glad they both finally acted like adults and made it happen.

This is a BOOK!!

I really liked Red! At first, I had some doubts, but that man always goes to bat for my girl Pey. I admire that he was trying to leave that lifestyle behind, yet he remained true to himself, he had his ways about him but overall he was a good man. Peyson was dead wrong. How does she only remember him saying he didn't have space in his life for anything serious, but forget that his text said, "IF YOU NEED ANYTHING..."? I would think having a baby would be her needing something. Pey spent way too much time in her head overthinking things, and to be fair, they both got on my last nerves, but this is a really good read. I enjoyed it immensely.

Whoo child

It kept my attention and had a good plot but goodness Peyson was pissing me off!! You hid this man whole child because you thought he didn't want you and didn't tell your parents who the real father was then had this man blindly walk in their home without food knowledge?! She was just too inconsiderate with his feelings and had the nerve to have an attitude and self wallow for a situation she created. The audacity was high for sure. And then didn't have the decency to apologize just kept sending raggedy updates. She was just annoying to me lol. Red deserved better and I'm surprised he didn't let her be lol

3.5 ⭐

I enjoyed this book, but man, Peyson was a little hard to like. I really liked Red. When I started this book, you couldn't tell me this book wasn't going to be a 5-star read; however, right after that, it went down for me. Although I didn't like what Peyson did by not telling Red and having no intention of ever telling him anything (rolls eyes), I was still rolling with it for the most part. I think it tipped me over the edge once we found out that she still never told her parents that it wasn't the ex's baby. At her big age, she's worried about her parents knowing that she had a one night stand, I don't know that was frustrating.

Bomb

This book was so bomb! I didn't read the novella but I loved that it was included in this standalone. I loved Red and Peyson together. You could literally feel the chemistry oozing off the pages. I am so thankful that there weren't a ton of extra characters or other relationships because it allowed you to focus on them only. The only issue I had with this book was editing and it became even more of an issue towards the end. Overall this is a 5 star read as usual from K.C. excluding the grammar issues.

Absolutely loved it! Redmond is sooooo bae! I was so glad that him and peyson worked things out. Their story just proved that love has no time limit. A one night stand between them turned into something so beautiful. I'm waiting on a update about lobo falling in love and somebody locking him down and making him change his ways. Peyson actually should have have her parents a little benefit of doubt because in the end they turned out to be a little more accepting than she thought. A great standalone story worth reading!
