Time for a Change
The last thing Michael needs while trying to work in the coffee shop is a half-naked idiot employee performing circus acrobatics to get his attention. However, the more he tries to ignore him and the ruder he gets, the more the gorgeous guy just won’t leave him alone.
Michael just wants to get his ex-boyfriend back: Christian, the suave and sophisticated art gallery manager. I loved this! It was a debut, I believe; new to me author, either way. It had no huge angst, mostly just frustrating insecurities keeping our boys apart. And I loved it. It was a sweet, easy read (but not total fluff) with a enough "I'm gonna smack these boys" moments to keep me invested. I genuinely loved both MCs. I will say, though, Sam and his ADHD and his big heart were SUCH a treat. I just adored him, even when I wanted to throttle him haha.
Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for something to read after a super angsty book.

This is the story of Michael, a workaholic accountant, and Sam a barista.
Sam has severe ADHD, he has trouble holding still in public, his doctors need to change his medications because when he takes his current meds, they make him act drunk.
Michael is the victim of several pretentious ex-boyfriends who treated him like trash. In particular his most recent ex, Christian, a snobby gallery owner who no longer wants Michael until Sam comes along.
I had trouble with this one. I enjoy H. L. Day's work, but I couldn't get into Michael's character. I realize he has social difficulties, but he's just cruel and off putting sometimes. The warmest thing about Michael is his relationship with his cats, Thunder and Lightning. Sam is easier to feel for, but he still has major issues that he needs a therapist, not a boyfriend, to work through. His sister isn't supportive. I really wanted to see Sam get some emotional support, but it never felt like Michael fully opened up. I just wasn't feeling enough chemistry.

Very, very cute read. I loved the dialogs between them, the writing is so very good and the plot is just perfect. Sam is one of the most adorable characters I've ever read about and I loved how persistent he was and never gave up to try to change Michael's mind (who I really wanted to slap most of the times, by the way *grin*). So: it's a very sweet love story with likeable female characters (sister, secretary), too. Definitely 5 stars.

Time for a Change was an adorable read, I finished it in one sitting. I liked the main characters. I don't read a this author a lot, but this book was a great start to begin exploring.

I liked the setting and the theme of the story, but, at times, both MCs were really exasperating. They spent most of the story blowing hot and cold, then drama happened because of the evil ex and because they didn't communicate with each other. By the end of the story, I was quite tired of the relationship drama.

This book’s conflict didn’t work. The push-pull of the mc went on for too long, and his unlikeable behaviour became annoying instead of an opportunity for compelling growth. Try A Temporary Situation or Taking Love’s Lead by Day; those two books were delights to read.

I really liked this one, even though Michael was a jerk from start to finish. That makes it my least favorite H.L. Day romance so far, but still it was enjoyable and hard to put down, as I stayed up until 3 am to finish it. This author's writing style seems to be up right my alley so far, as she manages to strike a good balance (IMO) between sweetness and drama.

This is a pretty good read. I have no real complaints beyond taking a while to warm up to one of the MCs. Sam was adorable and I loved his attitude. I wish more focus had gone onto him rather than Michael. I also wish that by the end of the book he'd have had a better acceptance of his ADHD and didn't see it as something shameful or wrong with him. Michael...was a grumpy jerk for a lot of the book. When he wasn't grumpy, he was wishy washy. He crossed the line too many times, I'm not sure why Sam gave him chance after chance, or that Sam SHOULD have given him another chance. But he isn't all bad. He's still getting over a bad break up (his ex is terrible and I honestly don't know what he saw in him). He never treats Sam like he's broken when it comes to his ADHD, it's never an issue or something to be tolerated. It's just part of Sam. So that's a good point in his favor. Sam's sister was...not my favorite and I don't care what excuse is spun. She was out of line, repeatedly. I don't see her actions as "loving" or "supportive" or "protective" at all. I've already said Micheal's ex Christian is terrible, but it bears repeating. He's so immensely hateable. That it took most of the book for Michael to finally see through him and cut ties is frustrating. But the Michael has a lot in common with him for most of the book, until Sam breaks through his snobbery.

UPTIGHT!!!!
This was a well written book. The characterizations were well fleshed out and believable. In fact so believable I began to dislike Michael almost as much as Christian! Talk about uptight, clueless, closed off, socially inept and thoughtless. The only good decision he made was reluctantly becoming involved with Sam. And that decision was because of Sam's persistence in perusing Michael.
I could not understand Michael's continued reluctance to acknowledge his growing feelings for Sam. He apparently accepted his one sided relationship with the self absorbed shallow in the extreme Christian and even wanted to rekindle that self destructive relationship. Why couldn't he see the best thing that ever happened to him?...Sam.? His self blindness was really a turn off. Thank goodness Sam was so persistent.
As these romance stories usually evolve, it took an instant of miscommunication and hurt feelings to have an OMG moment of realization on Michael's part that he really did love Sam and that he had to work hard to open up and prove it to Sam. In doing so, he somewhat redeemed himself to me. I can't say I would have persisted quite so long in trying to win Michael over as Sam did but I am glad that he did and that Michael's innate personality shortcomings grew into a more open and demonstrably loving persona.

After reading 'a temporary situation' from this author I knew I had to read this one as well. And like I already expected I loved it just as much. The characters are quirky and fun, slightly uptight and set in their ways, but fun.

Exciting book
I actually hated Michael at the beginning of this book because he and Christian reminded me of someone I once knew. Luckily the novel turned out well. Well-written with excellent character development and, as a bonus, laced with humor!

Again! Loved it! Ms Day has this wonderful ability of creating real, quirky and loveable characters

The last book I read from H.L. Day was a huge miss for me, which is the exact opposite of what I'd become used to from her book. Thankfully, this one delivered.
The plot isn't anything that hasn't been done before, but I love H.L. Day's writing style and love her characters.
The only complaint I have about this book was that I lost about 3 hours sleep staying up to read this.

Sweet!
Aah, this was adorable. I finished the book in a single day because I just couldn't put it down.
I did think Michael was an idiot in the beginning, which is why his character development impressed me so much.

I liked this better than the other contemporary that I read from this author. After reading 2 contemporaries by this author I am convinced they have never worked in a modern office. In the last book the MC was carrying around a tape recorder while in this the secretary was called in with her notebook to take a letter. What in the 1989 is going on....

Whilst, for me, this was not as good as A Temporary Situation, it was still a VERY enjoyable read.

Least favorite of my Day mini-binge. Half the principal couple unlikeable & the other half underdevoped and incomprehensibly attracted to a jerk. Didn’t like this one.

Good book, and well written for a debut (is that correct?). I did have a problem with the connection between the characters though - Michael was such an asshole, very few redeeming qualities. I think Sam deserved much better

I’ve read a few by this author and enjoy her style very much, so the opportunity to read more from her back catalog is always welcome. Time for a Change is an opposites attract romance at its core and I easily fell into its rhythm and the story. The chemistry between Sam and Michael was palpable, and I enjoyed watching them and their relationship develop over the course of the book.
This author is so adept at capturing a character’s voice, and that was particularly helpful in this book. Time for a Change is written from the first person point-of-view and solely features Michael’s viewpoint. Michael’s lack of self-confidence and social awkwardness came through right away, making it easier to dismiss his sometimes brusque, pragmatic approach to situations and increasing his overall likability. This also made it that much more evident as we saw his character soften and become more conscious about how he came across to others. I especially appreciated Michael’s new found self-awareness as it pertained to his interactions with Sam, further cementing their chemistry and demonstrating how much Sam had come to mean to Michael.
While I don’t know that I’d term Time for a Change a romantic-comedy, there was an easy, affable mood throughout the book with plenty of fun dialogue and exchanges that left me smiling. That lighter vibe, the comfortable pace, and dynamic characters made this one hard to put down. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Time for a Change to anyone who enjoys unique characters and a good, balanced romance.

Michael’s character drove me bats. He was such a phallus and I couldn’t see where the author gave any reason for him to be that way. No one could be that clueless and rude so repeatedly. I could not get past annoyance at the umpteenth time he was so thoughtlessly cruel to Sam and Sam coming back for more. It went on for way too long and I ended up skimming the last 30% or so because I just couldn’t care about them as a couple by that point. Maybe its just me not the book, maybe he’s got some sort of stiff-upper-lip British personality I just don’t get. The overall writing was well done, just not my cuppa.

This was a lovely romance. Michael did not appeal to me at first but as his character developed and changed under the influence of his love for Sam I grew to like him very much. This was a great story.
