This was a textbook for one of my classes this semester. It reads, predictably, like a textbook; however, the use of factionalized case studies does help the reader to imagine and operationalize the ideas. I have begun to loosely practice some of the design-based models d have found it to be a useful tool to ground some of my aspirations in practice and data. One of my favorite quotes, and a good reminder for me to keep at the forefront of my thinking: “adults, not unlike the children in their care, want to be respected, stimulated, and satisfied in their need for competence, autonomy, and belonging.”
