Kristen Banet has a Diet Coke problem and smokes too much. She curses like a sailor (though, she used to be one, so she uses that as an excuse) and finds that many people don’t know how to handle that. She loves to read, and before finally sitting to try her hand at writing, she had your normal kind of work history. From tattoo parlors, to the U.S. Navy, and freelance illustration, she’s stumbled through her adult years and somehow, is still kicking.
She loves to read books that make people cry. She likes to write books that make people cry (and she wants to hear about it). She’s a firm believer that nothing and no one in this world is perfect, and she enjoys exploring those imperfections—trying to make the characters seem real on the page and not just in her head.
She might just be crazy, though. Her characters think so, but this can’t be confirmed.

Happy reader

This second installment had a slower start as the story explained the natural progression of the relationships in the pride, but once the plot was well underway, the pacing and action picked up.
This series is a great read from a new author who will be one to watch. Looking forward to her next installment in the series.

The second novel is far worse than the first.

Once again the author shows a painfully limited vocabulary with the use and overuse of the word Fuck. It isn't "edgy" it's downright lazy writing.

I kept asking myself where the editor was when reading such things as: he twisted her chin bones.

Or such gems as: balls deep. Who thinks that's sexy!? This author did, because I read that horrific line far too many times in one book.

The main character once again is supposed to be this magnificent pinnacle of enlightened feminism, yet all I see is a whiny, spoiled, and annoying gold digging Mary Sue.

What this author needs is a good dictionary, and a good editor.

Please, someone get this author an editor!

Let's call this a 3.5 stars. I would give it a 4, because ultimately I really enjoyed it despite the quibbles I mentioned as I was doing this re-read.

On balance, this is an exciting, tense, rollercoaster of a ride with strong characters that I care about. (I mean seriously...her harem is pretty damn yummy) The story is engrossing, with plenty of dark to balance the light, giving it decent emotional heft. So despite stylistic issues my editor's brain wants to fuss over, I have been really enjoying Banet's series.

I am a little disappointed with the direction Troy and Gabe have taken, since I'm not much for submissive men in my harem. But Banet has managed to keep it minimal and not too obtrusive, at least as long as the boys emotionally heal from this wrenching installment in the next book. And your mileage may vary, because they are still great characters with plenty of appeal, humor and fun. And with plenty of flaws to flesh them out.

Riley's character could be considered by some to nudge that Special Snowflake/Mary Sue line - she is a very strong character with a lot of skills who manages to go through an awful lot and remain strong. But I honestly think Banet only flirts with it. I think Riley has plenty of flaws and character issues and emotional trauma to work out - enough to balance her. And hell, I prefer my heroines to be...well...heroic! So it works for me and has added to my enjoyment of the series. Without such a strong MC, it wouldn't be possible for all the excitement in this series - at least not without the equally enormous problem of an MC that is constantly in need of rescue (ugh).

Oh, and I think Thomas is an especially yummy character. I kept trying to work out some way for her to get him in her harem! But that won't happen...so now I am hoping that Banet will write a second series about him and his small pack. Mmmm...

The book builds to a very satisfying climax (even if just a hair unrealistic - but I am okay with that because I don't want my heroine's to be TOO damaged). And it even includes a nice, if not entirely unexpected, twist at the end that sets up for a potentially great conclusion in book 3. Can't wait to go read that...so I am off to do so ;)
Warnings: There is some very dark material in here - from Riley's abusive background to some seriously dark stuff in this novel. So beware those of you with triggers. There is also explicit sex. And a lot of it. Lots. In many variations and combinations. And some of it very very hot. *fanning a hand in front of my face*

Overall, I am really loving this trilogy so far, and the fact that this is my third time through book 1 and my second time through book 2 should be some indication of that ;) Oh hell, you know what? I am going to bump my rounding of the 3.5 stars to 4 instead of rounding down to 3! ;)

UPDATE NOTES:
80.0% - Okay, and now I'm remembering that the second half of this totally makes up for any issues I had in the beginning...and even for all the hell and darkness and mess Riley had to go through to get here... Yes!

8.0% - Gah, ESPECIALLY when it is just filling in the 6 month gap that occurred in the epilogue of the last book! That is just too confusing. Either don't write the epilogue, or put the six months in the prior book if you absolutely must have them.

7.0% - I had forgotten about the structure on Book 2. While I am still enjoying the story and the characters, I'm really not a fan of the "chapter a month" concept as a way to make time pass quickly and show a developing relationship. I'd rather just have a big time skip and then start again when it's time to start the story again. The gap can easily be filled in with passing references and occasional flashbacks. *sigh*

Loved it, lots of twists and turns..... some I even saw coming ...
Ok, loved 98.9 % of the book....
I hate it when my heroine seems to get kidnapped in ever book and even though m/m is NOT my thing , the hints about the brothers Gabe and Troy were just wrong!
I won't go into specifics but there were at least two weird things mentioned about them, that news trying to ignore when after having sex w/Riley the brothers are in bed in one side of her and Andrew in the other and the brothers start to cuddle each other and Riley is liking it thinking its kinda hot ?!? WTH?!? The brothers give her "naughty" looks and Troy seems to start to feel Gabe up,before he laughs and pushes Gabe off,Riley whimpers to Andrew asking/hinting as to if he knows " just how "close" " the brothers are, sadly not turned off in the slightest... ( Hey, if they have enough shared DNA to be called "brothers" it's incest and that ain't cool! Ever if for some sick reason thought it was hot and eventually something needed to be "done" at some point ?
What needs to be done Riley ? Do you want two of your men to get it on w/each other ? Two brothers at that ?!??
Seriously ?!??
Now, Riley in all other respects is a very cool Badass h and i think she's awesome! But that is soooo NOT right, personally I don't get she could encourage any of her men in this , I thought she was like me in the "I don't share dept."... selfish or not, if I were blessed like this I wouldn't share, but incest ?
Please don't go there...
I mention it because it seriously creeped me out and every time I saw the guys together after that or their dependence on each other was mentioned or their often fragile mental states , I got a lil more stressed worrying where it might lead ;(
The worst part was while Riley kidnapped, thankfully not alone all this time but still it was pretty bad.....
I love it, I really really did ....
But the crap w/brothers took some of the fun out of it me and kept my stress levels even higher than I would have liked ...
What was also interesting was,I guess who tried to buy Riley yet again and who was going to show up at the end...
The end part I can see why the characters never saw it coming ,but their kidnapper ?
Yeeeeah, the guys should have figured that one out for themselves, not to take from Riley ( she really is smart) but they should have seen it themselves, it was a bit too obvious...
I eagerly look forward to more...

This series is far from perfect, and it is still a bit cheesy, but seeing Riley get kick ass was pretty satisfying, and I'm enjoying the ride, despite its faults!

I remember why this one was on my TBR now. It's usually either the next one wasn't out or because I wasn't in the mood for it. That's where this one fit. I wasn't in the mood then and I wasn't in the mood now. The falling style is easy to fall into but for this one it was the characters I couldn't get along with. If I could, I would've been done at the jealousy bit in the beginning with the is this how it's going to be now.

Riley was pretty much a time share girlfriend minus the girlfriend because nothing was confirmed. Each starter chapter felt like an abstract here we are now with each character before the bad guys pop up and ruin everything, meanwhile racking up names of people that would want their downfall.

There's a duality to the characters, with them being happy Riley is a badass and everyone worshipping her, and then treating her like a damsel in distress, with them running around like headless chickens. It felt a little immature and there were parts I had to skim. The guys themselves seemed to blend all into one. I don't remember the first book well and it's not one I want to go back to. The ending was just another hit to the pride. Think I'm stopping here with this one.

Excellent Book

Even though I enjoyed the first book in this series, I was reluctant to read the second. I'm not sure why. I liked the characters, they were all distinctive and somewhat developed and the intimacy didn't feel forced or too fast for the circumstances. The h was strong and open minded but not so much that it lacked authenticity. I should have been excited to jump into the second novel. Anyway, after a slight delay I decided to start reading and I am so glad I did. This book was so satisfying because bad things happened to our heroine and heros but there was retribution. I loved it. Additionally, the author was masterful in pacing and developement. The characters were strong but flawed in a believable way. I so love when the h doesn't always need to be protected and saved especially when everyone seems to think she does. I also liked how the author made me feel the characters emotions, especially the h. I was on a roller coaster for most of the book. I definitely recommend this book for those who like adult RH novels, h's who are very intune with their sexualty and those who don't mind swearing, violence and a some possible triggers.

Crazy ride

In the second book of the Kingson Pride series, Riley and the Pride have a tough road they have to travel. Every member of the Pride is pushed to the breaking point. We meet new characters in this book as well. I do want to give a trigger warning for this book- a sexual assault, not graphically described but def there so be aware.

The characters are still great, but I did feel Riley in particular had growth in this book. I felt that she gained confidence in herself, her abilities and her relationships. We do get to see POVs from multiple characters, each change labeled at the beginning of a chapter and running throughout that chapter so there is no confusion on who is speaking.

The writing style of Kristin Banet is one of my favorites. I enjoy the easy flow and the way it draws you in. The dialogue seems natural. The descriptions are there without being overly wordy.
The book has several plots within it, weaving together to form a story that is seamless. This is a series and so we do have a lead in for the next book at the end.

Overall, I would recommend this book.

Good

Another good addition to this series. Things I liked in this book where the introduction of new characters and how well it was done. The characters that are introduced only add to the fullness of our main characters lives while also providing possible side avenues in the story. For example there is one character named Thomas who I'd love to know more about and who I could easily see maybe getting his own story at some point. I also really liked how Riley is staying consistent. Shes emotional and let's all out but ones she's let it out she gets down to business and handles things. It's great that her character is staying the consistently strong heroine who doesn't need men to save hee but chooses to have them as equals. So overall this story still has paranormal aspects, action, suspense, romance and it also lightly touches on some darker subject matter that may not be for everyone; but overall it's a good book that I would recommend and has what is in my opinion a happy for now ending.

This book definitely takes a turn for the darker and I would warn that this book make contain triggers for some people, however I still enjoyed it. The author write it very well and dealt with some incredibly difficult things. She made the FMC reactions and the way she dealt with it believable. I have to admit that I did guess that what happened at the end would happen, but the rest of the book really did have me with my heart in my mouth and very worried about what the author would do. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it's ready and really hope I won't have to wait too long for it.

Well, Wild Fire, you were a wild ride. The pride are sold out and put into some pretty damn precarious situations. It takes the characters we were introduced to in the first book and ramps them up to the nth degree, sucking you into their forming relationships, stabilizing part of it, and we follow Riley as she grows into someone who fits into the Pride more than as just some random woman. She cements her place. She belongs there and she shows them why at every turn, and when they try to be manly and protective, she shoves that in their faces too. Riley really grows into a great character in this book, and with non-stop action and new allies, I can’t wait to see what the next book brings.

Actually 3.5 ⭐
You know what, I'm glad that they are all alright again. This whole trust issue thing really took a few years of me... but we are over it. Finally... hopefully.
I'm also surprised how fast Abel fell from his high throne but go, you Riley!

All in all, I do like the guys. I like their interactions and that they are not shy with each other!!
Plot-wise I feel like something is missing, or maybe I just need a few filers between all the action 😄

Great new book!

I love this series! Riley is awesome and badass! I love a strong female MC. The guys in this series are all great. The ending was great also makes you want to read the next one bad. The editing could still use some work but I really like the story and characters.

Moving along

This is a progress in a complicated relationship. The guys have a role in a pride they each fulfill and she needs to find her place. I really liked how she stood her ground and didn't bend. I was very surprised at each of the guys and they're situations. This was definitely a pivotal point in this series.

Absolutely Love this series

I am in love with Kristen Banet's writing - the third book is getting ready to come out so I re-read Books 1&2 - I am so ready for book 3 now! The storyline she has put together along with all the depth of each of the characters plus a strong MC - definitely a winning combo!

Just Wow

Ok this was a crazy roller coaster: thrilling and exhilarating. I was happy and sad through it all. I saw the ending coming, but I was wondering how Kristen would spin it. I liked meeting new shifters also- I see a spinoff :)
Rylie is so badass and each guy has an amazing personality you just can't help but fall in love with.

The book had a really slow start hat should have shown the relationship building between Riley and her guys but actually was quite boring and in my opinion could have been shorter. Later the action kicked in and my interest increased. I liked Riley as a heroine much more than in the first book but I felt the author did not find proper balance between relationship building and plot.

Unfortunately, I have a similar criticism to how the first book made me feel: I think everything is just too rushed for me. The first few chapters skip through SEVERAL months, with each monthly chapter giving a select view into Riley's bonding with one of the guys.

For me, it felt like we were just checking off a list: cue bonding moment with Brenton? CHECK, cue moment with Zachary, CHECK. There just wasn't a smooth quality to the flow, and I felt like they were almost little vignettes instead of building towards the overall plot. Outside of the jerky exposition, the story flowed alright.

We do see some relationship building in this installment, and it's becoming more obvious to both Riley and the guys that their feelings for each other are "real" and worthy of being recognized. So far, I think some of the deepest connections are being formed between Riley and the brothers. For me, they had some of the deepest vulnerabilities, and they wind up coming to light and tying into the plot.

What I DID like was some more strength coming from Riley. In the first book, I was disappointed not to see more personality, more "oomph" from her. We definitely get that in book two, and there are some surprises in store for the pride as far as dominance issues are concerned. I liked that she's becoming more confident and coming to recognize her own power, to demand fair respect as a member of the pride.

Along with the issues from Riley's oh-so-selfish mother, we're getting into a new world by running into the shifter hunters. I thought this was an interesting concept, and it gives us another place to focus on besides just the inter-shifter disputes. Not only do the shifters have enemies amongst themselves, but there are also groups out to kill them, sell them, and maim them. The danger and deception wind up running closer to home than the Kingson pride could've expected.

Overall, I'm standing by my reaction to book 1: Since the series is on Kindle Unlimited, I'll probably continue to check it out. However, I just haven't been wow'ed to the point where I'd purchase it or put it ahead of others on my TBR list.

From Daphne to Dynamo

Riley has gone through a lot in her 2 years in Wild Junction but things are starting to go really crazy around her. Human hunters, betraying shifters, government agencies, and worse- her pride that trained her to defend herself is trying to baby her again. She's come too far to allow herself to be coddled. She's proven herself in several situations now: kidnapping, break-ins at home and the diner. They should trust her more. But pretty soon they'll be glad of her training. Because someone huge is going on in the Shifter/Hunter world and all that time is going to pay off. The pride might even get through all of it as long as they trust in her.

Oh, this was a hard read for me. Trigger warnings for assault, sexual assault, near rape and captivity. The story starts off ahead of the diner break-in that ended the 1st book and catches us up to that event. I still feel like the leopard brothers are shortchanged a bit in this book, too. So much is going on with them but I feel like they get used a bit and placated with sexy times more than emotional bonds. I like the shake up in pride structure, that was interesting. I also like bringing the other varieties of shifters in. I know this is feline focused but it's nice to visit other species. And I feel like it lays the foundation for spin offs. Another plus!

I recently got Kindle Unlimited, so I decided to try this book out, as I had read book one and thought it was okay. I figured that since I wasn't paying money and could return it, cool. That worked out, because I stopped reading 10% in. Now, I know what you're saying: "Abi! What are you doing? That's not far enough to even get a proper feel for the book!" I get it, but I had some real problems with Wild Fire.

1. I don't really like Riley. Since she's the MC, that's a huge problem.
2. I don't like her harem. None of them are particularly endearing or fun.
3. The plot in books 1 and 2 leaves something to be desired. This book jumped around, with something each month. I was wondering if I'd stepped into an novella or something from the content.
4. So. Much. SEX. Normally I don't mind a few good sex scenes in a book, and I get that as it's a reverse harem there are more guys to have sex with. However, I read 10% in - basically nothing - and there were 3 or 4 sex scenes. That's too much, and it was WAY TOO EARLY ON. Give me some plot, not this weird month jumpy fluff.

All in all, I DNFed at 10% due to bad characters and plot line, not to mention an overabundance of sex scenes in the first 10%. 1 star.

An i.improvement on the first book this has more action scenes. The language is still ripe, mainly from Riley the heroine surprisingly and there are multiple strong sex scenes. Having said that the story is progressing, the price seems to have many enemies and are constantly battling humans and other shifters. My main problem is with the characters you can't have so many strong personalities in such a close knit group without some conflict. The male price members have an emotional bond seeing each other as brothers and Daily as a sister (at first) a sister the list after, confusing right?. Trenton is the alpha, dominant over the rests Zachary is also a strong dominant but is woefully underutilized, Andrew (the sweet one) is so nice, too nice sometimes and the.brothers Zach and Gave are the youngest and also the screwups in the group, while supposedly being the intelligence geniuses. Reilly is a work in progress, she's strong, independent and fierce she also has a great deal.of.pride and self worth. After the events in this book it will be interesting to see how they resolve the story in book three as the price now have a veritable war to fight............

The beginning of the book is focused on showing snippets of the blissful life every one of the guys is having with Riley, right up to a point when two hunters walk into a diner and the shitstorm they bring with them.
It was rather easy to guess who was involved with the hunters. It wasn't easy, however, to guess what would happened next. The events that took place in the book often took me by surprise and I loved every moment of it. This book had everything in it that the first one was missing, making it so much better than I hoped it would be.
The characters were forced to finally confront their passed and learn to deal with it and I got to say - Riley was a bad-ass! I absolutely fucking love the person she became and how she handled herself.
Also, while reading the book I started toying with this theory I had about Riley's father and you now what? It turned out to be true at the end! I can't wait to see how it will all play out!
I need the next book ASAP!

For me, not as good the first book

I wasn't sure in the first book whether I liked the Heroine. Unfortunately, I'm still not sure. This is a reverse harem, so I feel that liking the Heroine is pretty important. The guys are fine, although the brothers Troy and Gabe need to become real adults soon. This book had a rather boring first half. Things did pick up nice!y in the second half.

The sex scenes from one male to another need to flow smoother. They seemed to simply bounce from male to male without much direction. I did like that Riley showed more gumption in this installment. I have the final book, so I'll be finishing the series-- even though this one was a bit disappointing.
