Sometimes real life is far more horrifying than spooky tales… Will Missy be dealing with tricks or treats this Halloween? Cupcake baker, Melissa Beckett loves any excuse to socialize, and when she receives an invitation to a masquerade ball, she and her partner in crime, Echo, jump at the chance, immediately planning their costumes. Things take a dark turn, however, when the ball becomes a murder scene. Determined to get to the bottom of who would do such a dastardly deed, Missy teams up with a prominent local artist to set a trap for the killer. Will what she finds haunt them all?
Summer Prescott is well-known in the Cozy Mystery realm, having written and published several Best-Sellers in the genre. An avid reader of Thrillers, Horror and Suspense, the author has decided to follow her passion with the debut of her Thriller, The Quiet Type, which launched in the top 50 of the Serial Killer category on Amazon. The novel has received high praise in its reviews, and Summer is considering a possible trilogy or series to continue the story.
Phillip Kellerman, a local artist, always seems to have the latest gossip. His latest tidbits include the new police chief buying the Fenton home, which is rumored to be haunted. He also relates a rumor about the divorce of Frederick and Blanche Palmer. The two tidbits have something in common. The police chief has contracted Carla Mayhew to do the renovations and there is talk of Frederick being enamored with Carla.
When Carla and Missy's friend, Echo Willis, meet for the first time at Cupcakes in Paradise, they take an immediate dislike to each other. Ever since the deaths of her husband and son, Carla seems to have personality issues with just about everybody.
On a more positive note, to celebrate the renovations, the Police Chief is holding a Masquerade Party at his new home. For the party, Missy dressed as Cinderella, Chas was her prince, and Echo resembled the genie from the TV series. The party seems to be going very smoothly until Blanche shows up and makes a scene by insulting Carla. Fortunately, Chas is able to separate the women and restore some semblance of order. As Chas and Missy are preparing to leave, a terrifying scream rips thorough the house. When Chas goes to investigate, he finds that Frederick Palmer has been murdered. Unfortunately, Carla seems to be a prime suspect.
Who killed Frederick Palmer? Why was he killed? Why does Carla seem to have issues with everybody? Can Missy and Chas figure out the mystery? Will Echo stay in Florida or return to California?
Summer Prescott has a certain flair for building tense and realistic situations. Her characters have unique personalities, that you might encounter in your day-to-day life.
This is the 17th book in the Frosted Love Cozy Mystery series by Summer Prescott.
I thought the entire concept of this was genius. Love myself a good bakery cozy. I did have a couple of issues with this.
For one, It was hard for me to tell who the main character was in this bakery cozy mystery. I really enjoyed the interplay between Kel and Echo. I hope those two remain in the series. Since this was my first time reading the Frosted Love Cozy Mystery series, I kind of started off without knowing the entire backstory. I picked this book up to read in my personal SPICE buzzword readathon.
The focus of the story jumped around quite a bit but overall it was easy to follow despite that. I will definitely try a few more of these since I have two others in my Kindle Library.
If you love cozy mysteries featuring baking, definitely give this one a go!
Things are going so well, Cupcakes in Paradise is doing good business, Echo came to visit from California and Kel the resident artist is keeping Missy up to date on what is happening in their small town but Carla is having a hard time Frederick Palmer's wife Blanche assaults Carla and accuses her of being Frederick's mistress, Carla is decorating the new Chief of Police's home and things get tense at the costume party they hold to welcome everyone to see the decorations and renovations done by Carla and just when you think nothing more can happen there's a murder. Well, there's lots of twists, turns and an accident or two along the way but Missy along with Echo and Val put their heads into investigating and they uncover some very surprising information that helps Chas close the case and lock the murderers up. Great read.
Missy's "best furry friend" , Toffee, and her little maltipoo, Bitsy, are both missing from "Pumpkin Spice Murder" . Missy walking on the beach all alone is quite strange, when she starts every day in the previous books by walking her dogs.
The murder and resolution both felt rushed, and there was little interaction or daily living with Missy and Chas. Compared to the previous books in the series, this one felt like I was reading a condensed version.
The walk down memory lane continues ....I'm seriously enjoying rereading this series. This book brings us Spencer and for me I love the fact that Kel plays a big role in this book. As always, the characters are like family and the mystery is fun!
I really enjoyed the way the Prescott mixed new friends with old. With Echo making an appearance, and Kel being a heavy part of this book, it’s really fun.
We get to find out more about the town and its surroundings in this book. We also get to meet more of the townsfolk. This book felt like it really expanded the town for future books.
The mystery was fun and I really did enjoy the way that Missy was used much more in this book to investigate the murder. I do enjoy the new way that we see Chas at work, however, I enjoyed the throwback to Missy.
Spencer is introduced in this book and after meeting him you’ll wonder why he didn’t come along in any of the previous 16 books, because you’ll come to discover he’s been around Chas even longer than Chas has known.
Prescott released the backstory of Echo Willis in “Echoes of Murder” which I feel everyone should read because not only is it great, but also because it explains a lot about her.
However, the backstory I’d really like to read is that of Spencer’s and Janssen’s. Maybe Summer will write those one day. 😊
Loved it! Missy and Chas are settling in to life in Calgon. the bed and breakfast is up and running as well as the cupcake shop next, Cupcakes in Paradise. Echo is still there and trying to decide to stay and Kel, Missy' new artist friend definitely makes it more attractive for her. Echo and Missy's new friend Carla still are like oil and water though. Business all around seems to be booming in Calgon making it lively. Carla has been hired to decorate for a former boyfriend and again finds herself in a series of unfortunate circumstances including the murder of her former boyfriend. Missy, Kel and Echo team up to find out what has really happened. once again the Frosted Love mystery does not disappoint. the new characters are enjoyable and I love the surprises i. each book leaving you wanting to know more. at the same time you are not left with an excruciating cliffhanger. it is filled with enough excitement to stay interesting without being overwhelming and stays interesting to keep your attention from start to finish.
Even though the lives of Missy and Chas are going well in their adopted hometown of Calgon, murder never seems far away. Both the bed and breakfast and cupcake shop they own are doing well and Missy is happy that her friend, Echo, is visiting from California. Life isn't totally idyllic in this beautiful seaside town, however, as murder strikes close to home once again. Missy's loyalty comes front and center as she is drawn into the investigation to help a friend. This is a wonderful series with a great cast of characters and I'm very much looking forward to the next book.
This was excellent! I liked the craziness of this book, and the insanity of Carla and Echo's ongoing personal feud over who should be Missy's BFF (why can't they both be and be friends as well?). Why would Carla want to kill her best friend? And the wife and mistress are both evil witches who really do make one crazy to be around. (who pays for a $3.80 cup of coffee with a $100 bill? made me think it was counterfeit). Still, a good little mystery to break up the day.
Fall, Florida, cupcakes and murder: It has to be good! Another chapter in beloved characters lives and I glad to see Echo back. This book has enough twist, turns and likable characters to hold your interest. Light reading yet it holds your interest because you don't know what will happen next. Its great for curling up on a quite afternoon or for me whiling away the hours on a long car ride.
I have finished several books in the series and have enjoyed them all. I particularly liked this story since it focused more on the mystery aspect of the plot while still touching on the characters relationships.
Loved the characters in this who done it .Very well put together and had me laugh a bit at the way things went. Looking forward to reading more about the adventures of this quaint and funny town!
This one took me by surprise as well. I really enjoy it better when I don't figure out who the killer is before the travel. I love that more new characters are joining the mix. Bring on book 18.
Love the new investigating trio. It didn't take these three long to see that love triangles can be deadly. I'm so glad that Echo came back. Still missing the rest of Missys family
