This book is great for children in grades k+. I love this book because it is very direct and made the compound words in a totally different font and color than the rest of the text so they are easy to identify. It would be an excellent book to read when introducing compound words to children. I would have children point out the two words that make up the single compound word. In addition, this book has great illustrations for children to look at!
This covers compound words pretty well. It's part of a really good series. In the series, there's a math collection and a language collection. I like the math books, but the language books are probably my favorite part. This has a nice, simple text that even the youngest readers could grasp. This is a good classroom series and the compound words book is a good addition. I'd give them all a look.
This fairly simple explanation of compound words was a great way for me to introduce the concept to my first graders. I liked that some "different" compound words were cited, rather than the standard ones (butterfly, football, rainbow, etc.)
A fun book that uses compound words to describe the illustrations on the book. On each page the compound word is highlighted. For a lesson I would assign students different words and they would have to find another word to make a compound word! Grades 1-3.
This book can be used when teaching students compound words. When I used it in my second grade placement, the students were given plastic Easter eggs with a word on each half. They had to put them together to create a compound word.
In the series of "If you were" about the english language. This is simple enough for very young children. This is a nice way for a teacher to introduce these ideas. Grades K+
