Lou Black was born in New York City, coming of age particularly in Harlem amidst the crack era of the mid-eighties and into the nineties. It was there he and his friends learned to navigate the pitfalls and dangers the streets had to offer. "Ethylene" gives you a look through Lou Black's lens as he tells the tragic story of how four of his friends and family didn't survive. The cautionary tale is both his message and wake up call to anyone contemplating the fast life.
I bought this today and read it all the way through. I was absolutely mesmerized. The authors memory and detailed accounts of his life are so vivid, you actually see it all play out in your mind. I highly recommend this book!
Read the book in one take. Lou portrayed the world of “Danger Zone” so vividly, you could create the pictures in your mind as you go. It was very saddening to find out the whole story with so many lost young lives, talent and potential. The message is strong and ends on a strong note.
