This book has a lot of good points and advice, however Boyd tends to drag on with his own strange personal experiences that do not seem to relate to Jesus at all. I wanted more details on how Jesus lead and an analysis how to apply his leadership in modern times. however, I mostly received weird tangents about purity vows.

Learning to grow as a leader and living a life modeled after Jesus are two concepts I will never grow tired of exploring. Bailey begins in his introduction by saying, “Learning to lead like Jesus is a lifetime journey that begins with humility.” He suggests that we must be “humble, teachable, ever-growing leaders desperately in need of God’s grace.”

Wisdom is suggested to be the most essential ingredient of leadership. The eleven qualities outlined include learning to lead like Jesus with humility, love, accountability, relationships, teachability, discipline, gratitude, generosity, forgiveness, encouragement, and faithfulness. When we lead like Jesus in every context, he suggests, “Our faithful lives and humble wisdom brand us as leaders worth following.”

Bailey’s book is filled with anecdotal examples and scripture references with each of the eleven characteristics having a chapter of its own. It would be most effective to read one chapter a day and spend time in prayer and reflection. There are many parts of the book that would be worth sharing but the one I am most prompted to share is specifically related to the workplace. Since this book is the one I selected for a school related professional development assignment, I challenge educators and everyone to ponder the following statement from Bailey’s chapter on gratitude.

Bailey writes, “Always, always be grateful to God for the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health He has given you so you can carry out your job responsibilities. Manage...as if your Master Jesus might drop by at any moment and inspect your work. What would he find? Diligence or halfheartedness? Excellence or expedience? Counting the minutes or wondering where the time went?” Let us contemplate and act on that with great expectation that God will move in our lives and in the lives of those around us.

I got lot out of listening to this audio book and enjoyed the personal antidotes, that some complained about. I will definitely be reading this one again.

This book contains numerous biblical insights, but they’re diluted by poor, unclear writing. This needed to be edited for clarity and conciseness, but it almost seems as though they needed the book to be a certain page length, which made it bloated.

Most chapters contain at least one helpful recommendation illuminated by real-world experiences, but there’s not half as many as there should be. Boyd sometimes drones on about seemingly unrelated topics and doesn’t do a good job bringing the point home.

I can’t say I’d recommend this book to anyone. I’m sure there are other books that more effectively deliver biblical leadership lessons.

I am a big fan of leaderships books and especially ones that come from a biblical perspective that is why I rated this one so high. I really liked how digestible it was for me to remember and quote already. I very much liked the “Takeaway” lessons at the end of the chapters along with the “Points to Ponder” which give you one word summary’s of the section you just read. I would highly recommend this book!

This book is filled with nuggets of spiritual wisdom and truth. It is easy to read as Boyd segments the 11 principles clearly into further subheadings. I have gleaned plenty of practical wisdom from this book. Overall, definitely worth reading and a great book to stimulate personal reflection.

Read this book as a work bible study in athletics. With a bunch of different people in leadership roles it helped stimulate deep conversations and ideas. For those of us in the study, I think we became better, more understanding leaders!

It was ok but the writing style was jarring, the variety of different font styles on each page was a bit much, and overall I think other books explain much of these topics better.

There's none whose life has been documented, or talked about over centuries as much as Jesus and in this book, the author highlights a few traits that we ought to and could live by. They range from Humility, Love, Accountability, Relationships, Teachability, Discipline, Gratitude, Generosity, Forgiveness, Encouragement, and finally to Faithfulness.
Eleven traits, simple right?
However, these are not so easy to emulate or live by given life's challenges and what I loved most about this book were the takeaways at the end of every chapter, simple reminders that you could practice daily.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC and the author, Boyd Bailey, for writing with such ease that made this book a companion.

I really wanted to read this book and it looked interesting and beneficial. Excellent principles on leading, but the material between the outline, illustrations and anecdotes were not well written or cohesive! (e.g. A personal illustration on shaving before/after shower for 'leading with discipline'. What?!?) I found the author's personal illustrations and train of thought distracting. The principles and character traits are good alone. I skimmed and almost finished this book. Disappointing. Read the table of contents, then look elsewhere for a good leadership book.

Pride and humility cannot coexist. Self-conceit and superiority must be confronted by humility. These two varieties of pride are like prolific vines that choke out all forms of life-giving vegetation. Lewis exposed pride as a major obstacle to knowing God: "As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you."

I had high hopes for this book but was unable to finish it due to odd personal experiences, long unrelated tangents, and other obvious statements that did not seem to teach much.
Other points are simply amazing… but they were few and far between. I would consider picking up this book again in a few years.
I would not turn others away from it either, I think everyone should give it a try because the nuggets I took away were wonderful, this book just wasn’t for me.

Gosh, this was what I needed. Great thoughts on leading, Jesus, and how to use your skills and gifts. Using your talents for the good of others is a great way to share God’s love and this book helps you figure out ways to do that.
