زندگی ون‌گوگ (یا حداقل جیزی که از اون می‌دونیم) توی این کتاب به من نگاه کرد و با لبخند کجی گفت :من،زندگی که سالها پیش از تو جریان داشته و هنر جاودانم ،با تو و دستهات که بعد از ۱۶ سالگی دیگه تماسی با مداد طراحی نداشتن،اونقدرا که فکر میکنی هم فرقی نداریم
خوندن این کتاب خیلی جذاب بود
نقل قولها در کنار روایت دقیق ولی جامع از زندگی ونسان ون‌گوگ باعث شده هم کتاب اطلاعات زیادی داشته باشه و هم خوندنش حوصله‌سربر نباشه

پروست در حق راسکین می گوید:حتی در مرگ نیز به پاره ای از سیارات مرده می ماند که پرتو نورشان هنوز بر ما می تابد
چنین است زندگی هنرمند و خالقی که آثاری فراتر از زمان آفریده است،انچنان که دیگران محکوم به فراموشی اند این هنرمندان همچنان در تابلوی صحنه زندگی باقی می مانند..روشنی بخش همانند شبی پرستاره..

زندگی ون گوگ اما روایت انسانی ست که چند صباحی به جهان بشر وارد شده،همانند انسانی که بر قمار خانه ای وارد شود دست به بازی های مختلف به اعتبار زمان  زده،در نهایت اما شکست خورده خارج می شود به عمر از دست رفته خود افسوس می خورد در اعتقادات خود و هر آنچه او را همانند برگی در باد بدانجا رسانده شک می کند..نا امید شروع به تصویرگری از تاثرات و آنچه بر دیده اش در طی این سالیان نقش بسته می کند..حال نتیجه این امر حتی اگر سبب خلق شاهکاری گردد برای او دیگر اهمیتی ندارد،چرا که وی عمر و رویای فردی خود را از دست داده ست،آنچه که اکنون داریم هرگز در ذهن مان پایاپای آنچه در خیال می توانستیم در زمان های گذشته بدست آوریم نخواهد بود،همواره بدون آنکه به روشنی بدانیم آن تصاویر چه هستند افسوس از دست رفتنشان را می خوریم و سنگینی شکست های نبرد هایی که حتی واردشان  نشدیم را بر شانه هایمان همچو باری مهیب و دهشتناک حس می کنیم و تنها مرگ را مفر حمل ابدی این بار منحوس میابیم،آن زمان که بار از دوش بر زمین‌ بگذاریم،دیگر چه اهمیتی خواهد داشت که آیندگان از تاثرات برجا نهاده مان چه خواهند گفت؟آنان حیات تلخ ما را نزیسته اند..بگذار در پندار شیرین خویش مدح و ثنایی گویند که هرگز به گوش ما نخواهد آمد..

کتاب پر از اسامی مکان ها و نقاشان و توصیف نقاشی است.
در کل برای کسب اطلاعات کلی درباره ی زندگی وان گوگ خوب بود.


وان گوگ: هر قدر زشت تر، پیرتر و شریرتر و فقیر تر می شوم
بیشتر دلم می خواهد که از راه نقاشی با رنگ های درخشان، خوش ترکیب
و پرجلوه انتقام بگیرم.

أنا لست مغامراً باختياري، بل بفعل القدر..ان استنتاجي الوحيد من هذه الحياة , ان الشكوى لا تقلل من المعاناة فأنا على استعداد تام للقيام بدور المجرم رغم أنى لا املك أي قدرة او قوة لممارسة ذلك
أريد أن أعبر عن المشاعر الإنسانية الصادقة و هذا العمل هو الهدف الذي ينبغي أن أكرس له كل حياتي إنني أعمل كما لو كنت ممسوساً ، في حالة أشبه بالجنون الصامت و بشكل يفوق إيقاع عملي في الماضي إنني أناضل بكل قواي للتمكن من فني و أنا أقول لنفسي دائماً أن النجاح سيكون هو الشعاع الذي يضيء خلال مرضي و متاعبي، أن الفرشاة تجري بين أصابعي كما يجري القوس على الكمان.

Quería conocer más sobre mi pintor favorito y ha sido un acierto empezar este libro. El autor nos describe la vida de Vincent apoyándose en las cartas que le escribió a su hermano, con una prosa muy lírica que acompaña maravillosamente a las obras que encontramos plasmadas entre sus páginas, y pintándonos un retrato (nunca mejor dicho) muy humano del artista.

Beautifully written and illustrated. The work describes van Gogh's life respectfully, and is a great insight to the artist's life. Unfortunately the edition I read (Terrail, Paris 2002) was full of mistakes in spelling, grammar and punctuation. Also, some of the paintings were in the wrong places or replaced completely by other works. This shows bad proofreading and editing, which was a shame, since the text itself was well written.

This book was amazing. I knew a good bit about Van Go to begin with but I didn't realize the extent of sadness and tragedy in his life. I was also amazed at all the horrible things that occurred in his family after his death.

Pierre Cabannen Van Gogh (1960) syventyy Vincent Van Goghin elämään ja taiteeseen tämän veljelleen Theolle kirjoittamien kirjeiden kautta. Van Gogh kirjoitti veljelleen melkein päivittäin, minkä vuoksi kirjeet tarjoavat oivallisen portin tämän ahdistuneen ja herkän taiteilijan elämään. Vaikka Van Gogh kärsikin horjuvasta mielenterveydestä, on pidettävä mielessä, että hänen tasapainottomuuttaan on ylikorostettu hänen taidettaan pohtiessa.

Teos ei sinäänsä tarjoa kuvailua syvempää Van Goghin taiteen analysointia, vaikkakin tämän teosten taustaa kartoitetaan teoksessa hienosti, jolloin Van Goghin taidetta on helpompi ymmärtää. Vaikka teos onkin suhteellisen vanha, ovat sen vahvat lähteet, Van Goghin kirjeet, nykyäänkin parhaat mahdolliset lähteet Van Goghin elämästä. Hieno teos, joka herätti ainakin oman kiinnostukseni Van Goghin taiteeseen, ja yleisestikin maalaustaiteeseen!

I'm biased due to Van Gogh being one of my favorites however still a great look into his life with the artwork timeline to follow. I've read almost every Van Gogh book and this is my absolute favorite. It's very intimate and shares a lot of the letters between he and his brother.

Intriguing and revealing journey through the life of a mystical and naturally talented artist. Well done! Hopefully, his reward was to look at the paintings he created and enjoy their beauty, even though no one else did at that time. As Don McLean wrote, "He was too good for this world".

I liked it. I thought the author's writing style was a little hard to follow and there were some statements that left you wanting for more information. I loved the overview of Van Gogh's life and artistic influences. Now I want to go read the letters between he and Theo.
