This. This is some dark messed-up shit. Stay away if rape, abuse and torture of the heroine would trigger you. For those of you as depraved as me - welcome!

I'm going to start by letting you know that this story was previously published in the 'When The Dark Wins' anthology, and is unchanged from that version.

We first heard about Beth from conversations between Marcus and Anthony, in Security Binds Her. We also know from later books in that series there is somewhat of a positive uplift in her story. Knowing that made this much easier to read, even though it doesn't end happily or nicely in any way, shape or form. Remember it is DARK! There is no light at the end of this tunnel, at least not yet.

You will love Beth, you will want to marry her and have her children, regardless of your gender or sexuality. You will hate Anthony with a passion, and Marcus only a little less. In fact Anthony is pretty damn scary, his lack of soul was so incredibly well portrayed. He is evil beyond comprehension, so remove from any humanity that he doesn't fully understand why his actions with Beth aren't working.

I absolutely LOVED this story and am so excited to know that we will be getting more of Beth's story later this year. I will be one clicking that as soon as it's available.

✨ DREAMY’S REVIEW ✨

Breaking Beth was a highly emotional, powerful, and heartbreaking read! It shook me to my core! With its sensitive and dark content, it's rough to read in a few places, but once you surpass that, there's a beautiful story being told.

As always, Bene always keeps me completely consumed by her book, all the way until the very last page! I love dark reads and this definitely stuck with me.

*****

We're first introduced to Anthony in the Thalia series and when I thought he was cruel then, I was completely wrong.

Breaking Beth shows you just how much of a sadistic, diabolical psychopath. He is evil.

He's terrifyingly hot in a twisted sort of way.

And within that, I saw something in him that could have brought him to his knees...

And that's Beth.

Someone he wanted to break so badly without remorse. Her inner strength and the willingness to fight was admirable.

I wanted to both cry and cheer with her throughout the story! She didn't give up even when everything was screaming at her, telling her to.

Anthony was so determined to "win" especially against Marcus, and to "break" Beth. While Beth was determined she would not be broken.

"There was so much more to enjoy in this process beyond the physical, and he wanted to take his time. To destroy her slowly, devour every inch of her mind."

Does Anthony Win? Does he "break" Beth?

You’ll have to consume yourself into the darkness to find out.

******

This book has all the darkness with no light at the end of the tunnel! Bene’s writing and plot of this book is absolutely epic! I can't wait for more, I need more!

This story haunted me, stayed with even after I've devoured it in it's entirety! That's what I love about Bene's books and that's how you know she's written something exceptional!

Breaking Beth is a well-written novella of pure Dark Erotica about a woman who refuses to break at the hands of her captor. While it tied to the Thalia series, I read this as a standalone and it worked that way beautifully. I will definitely be reading The Thalia series, as well as continuing with The Beth series.

Fair Warning: This is NOT a romance. And if you need a happy ending for your heroine, you will have to wait until the conclusion of The Beth series to get it.

This was a short quick read that I liked and wanted more of a backstory to all the character's this was book in the "The Beth" series. Beth was kidnapped by two brother's to be trained and sold as a sex slave. Anthony is the psycho brother the one with no emotion in his eyes the one who uses pain to break a girl. Marcus is the one use pleasure to break a girl. Beth is a strong willed girl and nothing that they did to her breaks her. This book was not romance it was dark and intense. While I liked this story it was too short and I wanted more of a backstory like where did Beth come from how they kidnapped her. This book had some very intense scenes in it the waterboarding almost made me cry. Although I have read darker this book was interesting because you never knew what Anthony was going to do. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

It’s been weeks but I’m still thinking back to this ultra-dark shit. I need a happy ending, meaning I need the assholes to bite the dust. Book 2, I’m counting on you.
***
Pitch-dark, twisted af and utterly messed-up. Can’t believe that there’ll soon be a second book and a happy ending. Happy ending to this, really? I was hoping everyone would die, it being the only happy ending I could envision. I’m definitely reading the second book when it comes out. I need to see if I need to expand my understanding of happy or to adjust it.

I read Breaking Beth as part of the When The Dark Wins anthology before, and after the Thalia series,i wanted to refresh my memory before i started Damaged Doll.
It was just as pitch black as i remembered, and the only speck of light i could see, came from the glimpses i saw of Beth on Thalia’s wedding day.
And i needed those, badly,to make it through this first book of Beth’s story.
Because Beth may have been strong, she may have been determined not to give in,to bend to Anthony’s will,in the end there was only one way she could escape…..and that was in her mind.
Leaving her body without any response to what he could think of putting it through.
The only way to make any money from her,was to have his customers fuck her.
But without the challenge of breaking her to his will,he grew tired of using her himself…..so,sell her and move on to the next victim it was.

The level of depravity was astonishing, the lack of any emotions Anthony had deeply disturbing.
His brother had too many, and i can’t say he was any better…..but then again,i already knew that.
Now, i know Scarred Siren isn’t published yet,but i need to see Beth doing better.
So,i ám going to take that chance, and start Damaged Doll…….

This is a very dark book. The torture that Anthony does to Beth is beyond any human can stand. The last scene when she does break my heart broke because I thought she would hold out. Jennifer did an excellent job in writing this book. I do hope she continues with Beth and where she goes and gives her an HEA. We will have to wait and see. Enjoy this way dark book.

I don’t know about Breaking Beth, this book should be called Breaking a Reader. It is a powerful and emotionally breathtaking read. It’s hard in a lot of places with the content, and I had to walk away a couple of times just to prevent me from wanting to scream, shout and rant at the characters, especially Anthony but I was always quick back desperate for more. Anthony is the antagonist vision of a hero but he IS a hero. You can definitely see it. He just needs to be slapped around the head a few times. He’s hot and imaginative but equally quick to frustrate. Beth, the heroine, is his downfall. She’s stronger than any woman lead I’ve read in a long time. I wanted to both cry and cheer with her throughout the story.

I need more of this story and these characters. Marcus intrigues me as well. He’s the softer of the two male characters but still has a lot to learn.

I highly recommend this book and will now be chasing Jennifer for more, more, more.

Having read and loved the Thalia series, I knew that there was a story about Beth. Well, this is her story. We know the end of Beth's story, but we don't know how she got to the end. Beth is tough and I've got to give her massive props for that. She goes through hell and still fights. That stubbornness and that fire in her are probably going to be what gets her through everything.

Anthony is a massive jerkhole.

This was just lazy writing. The plot had some potential to be good, redeeming or interesting but about halfway through I realized it was what it originally presented as and was disappointed to see the same scenarios be played out at least five times over with no new developments.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Again Ms Bene paints an utterly chilling picture of the process of taking everything from a human being until nothing but an empty shell is left.
And all that for the satisfaction of a soulless psychopath with a particular penchant for the screams of his victims and the power to do whatever he can think of to break them!
There I was, wishing for Beth to not be as strong as she is, to give in and be done with it. To get boring for Anthony so he'd tire of her.
And then I realized Anthony's method worked, even on me!
What a devious net you weave Ms Bene!

My biggest issue with this book is that I wished it was a full length novel “beginning, middle, end”
I felt like the author could of given us an ending. We don’t get a cliffhanger but we didn’t get a proper ending. It just stopped, I feel like if she brings out another book there’s no reason for me to want to read It. Which is such a shame because up until the last 5% of the book I truly enjoyed it.
It’s dark and gritty and I was immediately drawn into the story.
With storylines like this I wish authors would stop drag it out and just write the damn story...

Another short read, if you’re looking for one to help get you to your GR goal. Lol

Definitely full of triggers. Beth gets abducted by a sociopath who just so happens to run a sex slavery ring with his brother. They kidnap women, train and condition them to be submissive and then sell them. So, yeah, not a HEA, and lots and lots of bad stuff. Very unlike other similar series where there’s some redemption and such. This one is not like those. I think I would have enjoyed it better if there was more development with the brothers characters, but I guess it’s definitely more plausible that these bad men stay bad men and not suddenly fall in love with their captive and change their evil ways. But you still hope for it! Ugh

This is definitely not a romance. Breaking Beth is a dark psychological thriller that has zero glimmers of light. This is a story of a young woman being stole and brutally broken. The writing is amazing and I couldn't help but be drawn into Beth's horrific journey. I'm happy to hear that her story continues and, hopefully, we get to witness her come back from the hole she had to hide in in order to survive. Mind the triggers on this one, it has them all!!!

I received a coy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

It would take time. Time to destroy who she used to be...time for all her hope to die...time to truly make her a thing. But he would. Anthony took Bet to remake her into the perfect toy for his customers. Mindless, obedient, a broken thing without complications. But Beth is strong. She refuses to break, refuses to let Anthony erase her...even if that mean losing in the end.

In the beginning of this book Jennifer Bene has left a letter that tells you that this book is dark and different from anything she has ever written. It also says that if you have read the Thalia Series you will have a greater appreciation for this book and it will spoil a few surprises in Book 1. I am one of those that have not read the Thalia Series but now I want to go back and read it. I can say that I didn't feel like I was missing anything but again I've not read that first book so I am sure there are things I didn't get that I would have had I read that book first. However I love anything Jennifer Bene writes and there was no way I wasn't reading this. You guys need to buckle up because it is dark. It is about Anthony who along with is brother train and sale slaves and they have taken Beth. Marcus wants to be the one to talk with Beth first and train her a little but Anthony refuses. They both have different styles of how they train someone and where Marcus is cruel he seems not as violent and dark as Anthony. Beth has got to be one of the strongest women in the book world. That poor girl. My heart broke about every chapter and she just refused to be broken. She is not going to let the word Master fall out of her mouth no matter what. You have to read and find out what happens but just be prepared. I read this book in a sitting and didn't want to put it down at all. It was so good and I thought emotional and heart breaking and just a great book from a dark author. This is not a romance I will tell you that. Do not expect a happily ever after out of this book.

Down the rabbit hole

This is a graphic horror novel - Not a romance
In case you didn't read the warning...

"A body she wasn't sure she wanted to hold on to anymore"

Anthony is the perfect for the "career" he has chosen
A psychopath with power, money, and a curiosity to understand emotions. Such as fear, pain, and the loss of hope.
He breathes their cries like air
Savors the moment hope abandons them like a fine whiskey
He found a subject that was too perfect to pass up
He will savor the breaking, the remolding
She may fight but she will bend

"No matter what he does, I won't give him my mind"

Beth knows that once she utters the word all will be truly lost
She will beg, plead and scream
But she will never submit

I'm not going to repeat the warnings - they are there for a reason
For those who choose to ignore them - be prepared
There is NO HEA, NO HFN, NO hope, No white knight
There IS pain, There IS loss, There IS desperation
and there IS the inevitable crack

Wow! Guys just wow! This book is all fluffy rainbows and unicorns and cuddles and sunshine. I absolutely loved it. And the ending? Wow! What an incredibly beautiful way to end this story. 😍 this book is so sweet. So sweet my teeth hurt.

Hahahahaha I’m lying.

This book is dark dark dark.

I read Jennifer Bene’s Breaking Beth and oh my God. It’s a mix between horror and some seriously messed up stuff.

And my messed up little head is in love with it. She executed everything perfectly. Including how sick and twisted the main character is and the suffering Beth has to endure.

She’s at the hands of a sadistic man. And while I felt so sorry for her, I couldn’t stop reading. This book is so amazing.

So if you have hard limits, or a sensitive stomach. Please do me a favor and don’t read this book.

But if you’re like me and want to take a walk on the dark side, you’ll love this!

Excuse me while I sleep with the light on.

Holy Hellfire!
This story shook me to the core!
Anthony is first introduced in the Thalia Series.
That’s were we meet his cruelty.
But in Breaking Beth his complete psychopathic tendencies come out full force.
Omg that man is a complete manic!
Beth,oh Beth you broke my heart.
She is such an extremely strong woman.
Her inner strength and determination is so admirable.
But she just didn’t know when to quit.
I know you are never supposed to quit or give up but with someone like Anthony fighting him is his joy and passion. So he can break you!
Chilling story that’s also captivating and intensely gripping!
Ms. Bene’s writing and plot of this book is epic!
The story stayed in my head long after I finished the book.
The characters still consume my thoughts.
That for me is exactly what an exceptional author should do.
Especially when writing dark stories.

Pretty dark

Very dark tale, intriguing, sad. I was amazed and cheered on by the strength of this heroine. An enjoyable mind twist reading this after the Thalia series. The creativity of this author is ... disturbing, a discomforting mind, in a way that drew me in.

The storyline was a little unbalanced in punishment / relief, pleasure, which was probably intended. Also, felt it was missing more character background, description, life before this event, though at the same time omitting these details evoked a sense of disassociation, desperation, discontent, which was also likely intended. Perhaps we will learn more in the next part. Looking forward this heroine’s happy ending.

I had to read this in one sitting, not because I was enjoying it, no-one could, but because I had to find out what happened. Beth is one of the strongest characters I have read. I thought Thalia was amazing, but compared to Beth she was normal. Of course she had Marcus as her trainer and as we saw, his methods are very different to Anthony’s. I know things like this happen all the time all over the world, but reading such a powerful book brings it into sharp perspective and I am not sure who is worse, the kidnappers or the deviants that buy ‘trained’ girls.

There is nothing redeeming in this book, but having read Thalia I know there is still hope.

This is Beths and Anthonys story and wow you will never forget it, Anthony is a sadistic psychopath with absolutely no remorse for anything and he is cruel with no feelings and Beth goes through things you could not even imagine and left with no choice but to endure whats being done I was so proud of her for being so strong. This story is very descriptive and I liked how we got closer to Anthony to look inside his mind and he always delivers you with shock and leaving your mouth hanging open saying what the f**ck just happened. The writing is beyond amazing and once you start theres no way of stopping.

Breaking Beth is an extremely dark read that does contain triggers. It's contains sexual violence and abuse.
This is NOT a dark romance, it's not a love story and if you can't handle abuse DO NOT Proceed.
This book will break your heart, it will shatter your soul and make you speechless.
Anthony's torment towards Beth had me so angry, but yet I couldn't stop reading. I needed to know why.. How can a person be so cruel..
I cant wait for the second installment to see if Beth gets her HEA.😬😭😭 ohh how I'm rooting for her, but I'm just not sure it's going to happen.. like I've said before Anthony is one hell of a sadistic Alpha..

Darkest of dark!!
When we tell you, and when the author tells you, this is a dark tale with no happy ending, HEED THOSE WARNINGS!! We first learned about Beth and Anthony in the Thalia series. But just a tiny glimpse. Here we get all the gory, horrifying details. Now, I had to mentally prepare myself for how dark this book was going to be, and it didn't help! You never really know how dark it can get until you see the battle between Beth and Anthony. The author did an amazing job of bringing Beth to life for us, only to break her. And I also understand Marcus a little better now (from Thalia series). This is a must read for those who can live in the dark

Speechless and not sure where I can even begin with this review. This book was incredibly dark and twisted and left me urgently turning pages. Truly so little I can mention about the story as I don't want to ruin the story for anyone other than knowing this story is dark and lacking any semblance of a happy ending. This author did a magnificent job with the pace of the story and providing the reader the pieces needed to understand the story in just the right increments.

If you love a dark read you will not be disappointed.

Dark, intense and emotional. Anthony takes Beth for the sole purpose to break her and sell her to his highest paying customer. However, Anthony underestimated Beth’s strength and we endure the horrors Beth must face as Anthony repeatedly tries to break her. Will he succeed or end up destroying them both? This read draws you in from beginning to end. The characters are amazing and be prepared because this is not an easy journey.

Holy wow.
Dark doesn't come close to describing this book. Anyone who knows me knows I hate spoilers, so I'm not going to break tradition now. Breaking Beth will rip your heart out, twist it around, mulch it, and stuff it back into your chest and expect it to beat again.
Ms. Bene constantly raises the bar on dark romance, and Breaking Beth stands out like a single candle in the darkness. Guard your heart and steel yourself for a soul-defining dark read.

Breaking Beth was a disturbing and distressing read that left me reeling by the end of it. While you hope for some kind of redemption and a glimpse into the inner workings of Anthony, it’s Beth and her state that is truly all-consuming. This is a dark read with a lot of intensity so be prepared for your mind and heart to have some acute reactions.

What are you willing to do to not bow down. To not break. How miserable do you have be before you compromise. And what happens if you don't. This is Beth's story.
