The Singularity has come. The machines have risen. Our robots, once loyal servants, now slaughter us. Our cars, planes, and starships have become machines of death. Cyborgs roam the land, deforming humans, growing their twisted army. Is a heartless, mechanized hell our future? A faint hope shines. Heroes still fight. Famous names. Einav. Marco. Addy. Lailani. The heroes of the Alien Wars. Names etched in our history, in our hearts. Four friends. Four humans . . . against an army of metal. A shadow has fallen. Humanity must shine brighter than ever before.

Daniel Arenson is a bookworm, proud geek, and USA Today bestselling author of fantasy and science fiction. His novels have sold over a million copies. The Huffington Post has called his writing "full of soul." He's written over forty novels, most of them in five series:

EARTHRISE — They came from deep space. They came to destroy us. Against the alien onslaught, Earth stands alone. But we will fight. We will rise. We will win. Start reading with Earth Alone, the first novel in this military science fiction series.

REQUIEM — Welcome to Requiem, an ancient kingdom whose people can grow wings and scales, breathe fire, and take flight as dragons. Requiem is explored in six trilogies, which can be read in any order. If you're new to Requiem, you can start reading with Requiem's Song (you can download it for free). For fans of dark, gritty fantasy like A Game of Thrones.

MOTH — Discover Moth, a world torn between day and night—its one half drenched in eternal daylight, the other cloaked in endless darkness. For fans of classic fantasy worlds such as Middle Earth and Narnia. Start reading with Moth, the first novel in this epic fantasy saga.

ALIEN HUNTERS — Got trouble with aliens? Call the Alien Hunters. A group of scruffy mercenaries, they'll remove the pest for you. Low rates. No questions asked. Start reading with Alien Hunters, the first book in this space opera series. For fans of Star Wars, Firefly, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

KINGDOMS OF SAND — Enter a world of sand and splendor, a world where gladiators battle in the arena, where legionaries and barbarians fight for glory, and where empires rise and fall.

The first several books in this series are not bad--a little black-and-white (you can spot pretty early who's going to live and who's going to die, classic horror movie rules), but overall not bad.

As we get past the first six or so books, though, the writing becomes progressively worse, almost as if the author wanted to try and tailor his prose to be more accommodating to 12-year-olds, even as he continues to display some pretty adult themes (sex, violence, even rape threats).

The characters never really seem to learn anything, they continue to agonize over the same issues, they continue to have the same internal conversations, and by about the twelfth book, everybody in the inner circle has slept with everybody else, and are constantly revisiting every decision they've ever made, even if they just made that decision a few pages ago.

My enjoyment of the series has progressively declined with each successive book, to the point that I will not buy anything further in this series.

Entertaining and funny as our hapless heroes, Marco, Addy and her family join Ben-Aria, fly to meet he latest threat to earth. A new group of colorful characters and ridiculous situations as they relentlessly plod on to met the latest enemy. Meanwhile Liialani de la Rosa fights the AI’s on earth.

I really like the story and characters Daniel Arenson has created for us. But I always cringe during their internal dialogs. It is the same cliche, mushy, over-the-top stuff every single time. With those internal dialogs removed or changed, I would give the Earthrise books a 4 or 5 star for each one. But those internal dialogs almost push me away from the series entirely sometimes.

The writing is still good, the story goes to deep depravity. Ugh!

The lack of depth for villains reached a new low with this story arch. This book does little to move the story along, it is just wallowing in torture, depravity, pain, and misery. Death after death of characters that had value.

I wish I had stopped at book four.

Hard to read

I know this is science fiction, but no one could survive all this. Also who thought of intelligent mushrooms? Nobody could have survived on a frozen planet wearing only a blanket. I think this story should have ended after the first 6 books.

Creepy Good

This book about a crazy AI that goes rogue is an interesting story. Giant turtle and mushrooms roam in this story. Our hero’s seem to be fighting a lost no battle. Will there be any humanity left. Good read. Big D

Really good

This series has been soooo good. But I feel like this book was a little slow and not as good as the others.

Mr. Smiley has something for you. You'll smile like never before!

The Singularity has arrived. Machine intelligence has awakened, become self aware and has a plan for humanity - destruction on a universal scale! From Haven, Mr. Smiley has spread its rage and terror to the edges of humanity's influence. Put legs on your toaster oven and weld on a machine gun and send it out to convert your neighbors.

Marco and Addy have stashed the kids and answered President Ben-Ari's call to arms. Addy's ex-dead daddy and his son from a Thai Booker, showed up from nowhere and joined the party. Their pirate ship, powered by unhackable Tarjan technology, becomes their base of operations. Leilani meanwhile is protected from Mr. Smiley's brain-hack by the microchip in her head. You know, the chip that keeps her human, not Scum. She has to get the chip (and her head) to Einav's husband, Dr. Noah Isaac, at their base inside the Matterhorn.

The characters are the same we know and love. Marco is the ever-patient foil to Addy's barbs. And Addy! Hotdogs on a rake and a love of freaks, the bigger the better, I think Addy took one too many hockey pucks to the head when she was growing up. It was great having the band back together in one more life and death struggle to keep the last of humanity alive.

No spoilers, just a heartfelt thanks for the ride, Daniel! Can't wait for the final book in this series!
