Willie Johnson Granddaughter of a slave. Rejected by her father. Sold by her mother. Abused by her husband. How did a biracial woman become accepted to preach revivals in the Deep South and coast to coast during segregation and the Civil Rights movement? How did she rise above abuse, social stigma, and cultural limitations to step with anointing and confidence into pulpits all across America with her majestic cape swirling about her shoulders? From the 1930s to the 1980s, Sister Willie's powerful ministry intermingled song, Scripture, and a unique demonstration of spiritual gifts that were unusual in her day. Everywhere she ministered, she was beloved and highly esteemed, and lives were changed. Read Through the Waters and learn how to rise above your obstacles from the inspiring life and ministry of Willie Johnson.
A wonderfully written book about a wonderful woman! Willie Johnson lived and ministered in an era when women evangelist were sometimes frowned on, much less a biracial woman. Although she was mistreated at times, and suffered abuse, (sold as a child bride to an older man) she kept on, shining with the glory of God in her life. She ‘counted it all joy’ to be able to minister and she showed the love of Christ in her walk with Him. She was well beloved by so many and still remembered as a heroine of faith. This book has come out at the precise time....an example to many to spark a fire in our hearts once again.
All my life I have heard about Sister Willie through my mom and grandparents who were Sister Willis pastors. I also grew up listening to her records. After getting Sister Lori’s book in the mail, I felt like I got to know Sister Willie a little bit more. I could not put the book down till I finished it! Her story is one you will definitely want to have in your library and read over and over again, it is a life changing story!! Love love this story!!!
really good book - loved it - interesting style of writing - the story of what a woman can accomplish when all of the "world" seems stacked against her with God on her side ... Miracles / signs / Wonders & the humor that is necessary to overcome great adversity ...
