In the end, Alec sacrifices himself to end their escalating violence, but for Alec, death isn't the end of his pain.

Alec Winter is a father who has been suffering from guilt following a horrific camping trip the previous year, in which a bear attacked his wife (Casey), and killed two of their children (Nick and Sue). The guilt stems from being hailed as a "hero" for getting help, while in reality, he chose to run away and leave them to their fates. The story was fast-paced and had some very interesting concepts regarding the repercussions of Alec's actions (or inactions). There were a few parts that I wished the author had gone more in-depth into, in order to flesh out the story a little more.
The only complaints I felt with this novella were A.) I just plain did not like, nor emphasize, with Alec Winter in the least; and B.) I figured out how it was going to end only about a third of the way into it. The action (and one scene in particular), made up for this deficiency for the most part.
Still, an enjoyable, very quick read, that will have you shying away from camping (and field trips to the zoo) for a while to come.
What a fantastic creepy and scary novella! Very well written, absorbing from the first word to the last. With a really good chill factor and some super scary scenes this book was a great read.
I am really glad it's not bedtime however.
Every decision carries a price.
Alec Winter is a man haunted by his own cowardice. When a bear attacked his family during a camping trip, he ran and hid. When he returned, his children were dead and his wife badly injured. But everyone believes he’s a hero because he led rescuers back in time to save her. Ever since then, his children’s deaths have haunted him. Now, on the anniversary of the attack, strange things begin happening. The people who helped Alec are dying in very violent ways, leaving him to wonder if guilt has finally driven him crazy...or if something far worse is coming for him.
This novella has a great paced plot, plenty of action and some of those great unbelievable moments that a good horror/thriller book should have.
Alec Winter has no idea what is coming his way, but it's not good. With touches of the paranormal, and plenty of heart stopping moments this quick read novella was great. The ending I really liked, I felt the author left me hanging there with a good dose of horror and plenty of shock factor. Excellent reading.

This was the fourth book by J.G. I have read and enjoyed. Will continue to read his books in the future. The main character of the story is Alec Winter. Who one day goes camping with his wife(Casey)and his two kids(Nick & Sue). A bear attacks the camp and instead of saving his family he runs off. When he returns with help he finds out that Nick and Sue are dead and Casey is badly injured. The secret of him running off and him being treated as a hero is eating at him. Then one by one things start to happen to people involved in the rescue. Going to stop here. The story was fast paced and well written. I liked the eerie, creepy atmosphere he created for you while you read. The only down side for me was that I had most of the ending figured out ahead of time. If it wasn't for that I would have given it 4 stars. That being said I gave Fatal Consequences 3 1/2 stars.

Good, bad, or neutral, every action has a consequence. Some of them are fatal. When one man's cowardly inaction during a bear attack costs him the lives of his children and nearly his wife, he thinks it is just his conscience that he has to live with. Unbeknownst to him he has set off a chain reaction that starts on the one year anniversary of the attack and that will not stop until it's sated. Is it just paranoia from one man's guilty conscience or have his consequences finally caught up with him?
A well-written and perfectly paced novella, this was my first read from J.G. Faherty, and I can't wait to read the rest of what he has to offer.
Fatal Consequences by JG Faherty is a quick and dark tale of what happens to a coward when he tries to run away from his past deeds or lack thereof. Plus, it has bears! Bears are scary. A fast moving, well written and entertaining short novella. I might not go camping for a while. Or to the zoo, for that matter. 3.5 Stars
This book was just what a I needed. A full on blood pumping scare. I loved the suspense and the haunted feelings Alec had about what he had gone through. The scenes were absolutely creepy and freaky enough to keep me turning the pages. I am so glad I was given this book free for a n honest review.
The book started with action immediately and kept going straight through til the end. I wasn't sure about the ending, but that is fine. . . Who wants to always guess the ending ? I thought there might be a logical answer at one point and was just excited to keep reading. I hate to give anything away, but this book has the thing that creeps me out the most... It is great.
The author even managed to work in that their camping started as a result of Cub Scouts, which I will definitely think about on our next Cub Scout camping trip. The author done a great job of starting out strong and holding a fast pace til the end. No time for boredom.

This is the second story I have read by JG Faherty (the first being 'Castle By The Sea'). I loved everything about this novella, from the complex and haunted character that is Alec Winter through to the pacing, suspense, tension and the atmosphere of dread and fear which the author creates so effectively. When setting the scene, the flowing writing style and acute observations were used to great effect. The horror shocked. The ending was unexpected (I love that) and fitted the story perfectly. I shall be reading more of Mr Faherty's work.
Fatal Consequences by JG Faherty is a thriller novella that combines suspense, horror and a little bit of the supernatural, and it was really good.
Alec Winter is having a really tough time after the horror that took place when he and his family take a camping trip. He is believed to be a hero because he led rescuers back to the campsite where his children were killed. His wife survives and even she thinks that he is a hero. Only he knows the truth and he is having a hard time dealing with his guilt and his lie. It appears as though someone or something is also having trouble dealing with these things, because everyone who was involved in the rescue is meeting an untimely death.
The writing style flows smoothly and the novella is an easy read. The author is very skilled in building tension and suspense through the story. I was pulled in from the very first page and dragged along until the last page, which was great. I was pretty sure I knew what was happening about half way through, but that did not lessen my reading enjoyment.
I would recommend this novella to anyone who enjoys a well plotted and well crafted suspense thriller. I have not read any other books by this author but I am looking forward to reading more of his work.
I received a free copy of this novella from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Samhain Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this novella.
