Nick Gateon is the son of the world's greatest supervillain, and if he's going to make it in Valcav Academy for the Superhumanly Gifted, he's going to need a plan if he wants to become a 1. Break the records for the deadly entrance trials. 2. Deal with the kids of your dad's rival who want to see you fail 3. Impress three hot superheroines-in-training 4. Get mentored by the world's greatest hero 5. Survive the crazy curriculum and villain attacks. 6. Win! This book contains adult themes and harem elements.
I actually made the Did Not Finish decision about this book in the second sex scene. It's pretty rare for me to DNF a book and leave a review, but I have things to say about this.
First of all, I have to say that, if you're going to write books, learn your homophones. Spellcheckers don't catch when you use the wrong word, and sight / site / cite and two / too / to errors are particular egregious. Those six words would clear up at least 80% of homophone errors, I believe. There are many other errors in the text which would have been caught by a competent proofreader, which demonstrates the value of a good group of beta-readers. Just someone else to read what you wrote instead of what you meant to write is priceless.
Now, about the story: Meh. It wasn't bad. But I was hoping for more superheroing and less being angstful about our origin stories. And the sex scenes were more explicit than I was comfortable with, which is on me, not on Mr. Archer.
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is this: it's not a bad book; it just isn't my refreshing escapism of choice.
This book doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it supposed to be a coming-of-age book based in a school? A book about daddy issues? A harem book? A rivalry book? It's all over the place. Most of the story doesn't even have much to do with the "Academy" (I don't know why it's called that when it only has like 15 students at best). The characters and story make it seems like this book could be OK for children...and then the first sex scene happens; Overly graphic and completely misplaced.
The characters are shallow and the world is pretty flat. Unless you're hard up for something to read, skip this one.
Main character, Nick, is over powered, and his main goal, is to overcome the "bad reputation" he receives from being the son of the biggest evil antagonist ever. So other than the Oedipus Complex, Nick might have, his second objective is to gather and straighten his own personal harem-retinue full of beautiful and over-powered girls. Like I have said in a lot of the more "erotica" fantasy novel series, if all of the lewd sex scenes were taken out from this Fantasy novel series, the series would still have a lot of this that would make it an interesting read. For free porn there is the internet. You can pretty much search for your favorite fetish and there will be a million videos, pictures and descriptions. So the "erotica" or "lewdness" out of these fantasy novel series is mostly due to naivete and immaturity from the authors, than what is needed and required from a fantasy novel series. Since Nick is not cupid, nor is he Romeo, all of the sexual scenes are not necessary. Classes, training and actual academy tropes and cliches are needed here. Heroes are rare, but it seems to the author, that because his main characters are already over-powered (OP), then actual academy courses are unneeded. But because they are over-powered, they should be getting more classes, more training and attention from the teachers and school curriculum. There are a lot of attacks, most of them directed towards the main character, because he is the sole heir, to the evil empire. So the retinue from the Dad want Nick to become evil, Matt and some of the students at the Hero Academy also want Matt to become Evil. But Nick does not want to follow his father's footsteps. Are people free to find their own destinies? This author is doing everything possible to make Nick become an evil protagonist, which by the way, would make this fantasy novel series useless.
Main struggles in life because his father is the greatest villain of all time and yet the first chapter he meet a love interest(love at first sight bullshit given his origin and not realistic at all and also she kisses him at the same day)
I normally don't write reviews so I will keep this brief.
The Mc is mediocre, has the same powers has superman but with a time limit(with an added power) and struggles but had so many people supporting that makes it unrealistic and unrelated.(Not since that doesn't happen but gotta admit is annoying) LET THE GUY FIGURE STUFF FOR HIMSELF SOMETIMES BECAUSE WHAT'S THE POINT?. In my eyes he is nothing without them maybe in the future they will get separated and finally grow up his own man.
The characters well... Is a harem series so expected the women to be perfect and barely any development. That part got it right if your looking for a bit of soft porn with a story.
Overall: Is a good story if you don't want something too serious or just looking for the harem. There's twist and turns here and there. Barely world building. Some people compare this to Harry potter if it was harem. I AGREE.
Btw. This is more of an anime then a story...oh and also be prepared to get annoyed by how many times the Mc is basically worshipped on how many times he is reminded by his looks and amazingness. Surprise he doesn't let it go into his head.
This book is a total mess. It has severe consistency problems and outright contradictions. The dorms at the academy are called "boy's" and "girl's" dorms, so how old are these characters? At times it seems these characters are around 16 or maybe just out of high school. And yet it has been "decades" since Nick's father became an evil tyrant, which began some time after Nick was 7, so they need to be in their 30s or 40s. Other elements of the story make it seem like they might be in their mid 20s. And that's just one of many consistency issues.
It isn't for me personally, but I support mutually consensual, honest polyamory. But for it to work, the participants need, at some point, to discuss the rules such plural relationships are going to have. But, the women in Nick's life don't seem to think it is important enough to even mention, though he is openly in relationships with all of them.
I enjoy a good book with action adventure and adversaries for the MC to overcome and this book delivered. I kept thinking this reminds me of bits of other stories which is always the case with most books, any story with an academy for people with abilities will be compared to Harry Potter, My Hero Academy, Sky High, X-Men and the like, but the MC,and this story can’t be compared to any of these, and with a harem aspect including a couple of sex scenes ensure that this is not a YA book. Keep it up, I’m looking forward to the sequel. A note - some short chapters are from the perspective of side characters to give insight into their thoughts and perspectives, it was well done, though I normally hate books which don’t stick to the MC’s point of view.
This was a "Did not finish", I'm afraid. I read on the blurb that there were harem elements in it, and I usually don't bother with those, except that I was at a bit of a loose end, so I thought "Why not?" Well, here is why not. I didn't like this book at all because it felt creepy to read. And, I don't mean "horror" creepy. I mean like where you meet someone for the first time and as the conversation progresses, you get the distinct impression that they might harbour an unhealthy interest in children. The impression that I got was that the author was someone like that. I know of no other way of putting it than that I shuddered at its clumsiness. Not all the time, of course, but enough so that I was happy not to finish reading it. Do not read this book unless this kind of thing titillates you.
First of all, I'd like to apologise for taking so long to finish, for not enjoying it as much as wanted to and for the annoying protagonist. Oh, Snapdragon! I growl every time Nick opens his mouth speak or thinks, he pretty much apologised for existing. First of all, I wanted to read this because of its superhero genre and the story remains me of Drew Haye's Superpowered . The plot idea was decent but the dynamic between the characters I didn't feel.
Time moved like crazy in this book, and I was amazed to realise that a year had passed at a certain point. Also, there was no need for sex at all.
There are plenty of super powered novels out there, some great, some not. There are even more haremlit out there of varying quality. To combine a fresh feeling super powered world with a genuinely real, sweet, and heated harem element makes this amazing! The concepts, the all too human heroes, all too terrifying villains (seriously did NOT see one of the coming), and a whole planet's worth of genuine emotion and moral quandaries that'll leave you wondering not just about the line between hero and villain, but between love and hate. Can't wait to grab the next one!
I wanted to like it, but this book just has a lot of problems that make it really fall flat. Relationships develop basically instantly which is very jarring and characters say they are best friends or in love after a few days or weeks. Also the main character is way too focused on himself and whining about his dad Brad was the worst but right about that one thing. The most well written parts were probably the sex which just isn't a great sign.
not so much bad, as just weak A pale jumble of cliches from every other magic academy book. Burdened with awkward phrasing, baffling scene jumps, and no apparent plot. There are two sex scenes that feel out of place and would have been a great addition to a different book. Still it's more like two and a half stars. This book has it's fine points but even those are not fully realized. An editor or a few rewrites could have whipped this into a great book.
One of the best hero novels I’ve read. Well thought out characters with excellent depth. A lot of this type of book are fast paced with lots of holes in the story but this is a well fleshed out book with just enough “lore” and added back story.
The whole thing is a bit slow with very little happening for most of the book. It gets a bit better towards the end but too much is spent with the MC's inferiority complex . There's also a bit of a discrepancy with the power he has in training and what he does in battle to the point where he threw a mini-nuke equivalent in training bui in actual battle he's just meh
I guess all superheroes gotta start somewhere . Going to a academy for superheroes to train up seems logical I guess. As far as the more steamier parts of the book – well nothing happen there that we all haven't imagined reading your run-of-the-mill superhero comic books . I did enjoy after my physical but if not it should standalong thank you. Bill Hodges
One of the best superhero stories I've read in a long while. The setting is interesting, the characters are fairly complex and seem to have believable motivations for what they do, and I love that there's just a bit of gray to the heroes vs villains without resorting to making the heroes arrogant and awful. Loved it.
The story was pretty good but I thought that the author needed to be more aggressive in giving more depth to the supporting characters. Overall the concept was good and the pacing was decent. The action scenes are fun to read. The book gets a 3.5 out of 5rounded up.
This book is no Lord of the Rings and had no intention of being so. It is a well written power fantasy with harem included. I enjoyed my time reading this book and look forward to discovering more about the world, its characters and moments of passion in books to come.
This book was a mind bender to say the least! The author has painted such an outstanding variety of characters that it is simply staggering! Nick seems a little slow on the uptake when it comes to the girls, as he hasn't joined with Aylin yet, but, hopefully he will in the next book in the series!
It was so smooth it was over before I realized I was at the end. If you don't mind a little harem and maybe 2 adult scenes it's quite enjoyable as a super hero book. I'm definitely a new fan and will be looking for the sequels. It's hard to find a good harem where the MC actually has good relationships with everyone he's with.
This was a great and super refreshing dive into the world of super heros. If you like works like Super Powereds, My Hero Acadimia, you will love this book. Was a fantastic read!
I picked this book up be sure of MSE recommending it. I am so glad I did, cool story with interesting characters. Nice powersets, and unique uses for said powers. I'm eagerly awaiting another.
I havent seen a goid take like this since "So Not A Hero" nothings complete black and white and somtimes the heros the bad guy or the bad guy the hero who knows
Like the story just not crazy about the main characters powers being unlimited, and the ten minute time limit is lame. It just limits what you can do with the story. Hopefully some changes will be made and the story will get even better.
I managed to finish this, albeit after skimming a lot of repetitive back-and-forth about feelings. Far too much of that, and the story itself wasn't outstanding either in concept or execution. Could have been a lot shorter for what it accomplished.
A very light and funny book, i didnt expect much from it but i really had fun with Nick and his dorky super hero friends. If you have some spare time and like super heroes hive it a try.
The super part of things was very well done. At times the sex part of the story felt a bit awkward. I liked the relationship, powers, and the world building. Had a my hero academy vibe. Plus harem. I'm curious about where book 2 will go.
A decent read, with some interesting characters. I think the mentors (and their issues) helped this book stand out a bit more among similar books. I also appreciated the decent length of the book. Bonus points for not ending on a cliffhanger.
I do not ask for much from a superhero harem book but I do need a certain level of believability for the start of all the relationships. Everything about them was far too rushed. This book got three stars instead of two for a solid story concept.
It's a good start of a series and have potential. Sometimes it feels silly but it has depth. Will definitely read the second one. Also, This has some parallel to Irredeemable character which I liked.
