On the First Fleet homeworld of Belsea, CAS Special Agent Kit Nagoya is called in to track down a man who might contain an insane Limited Intelligence inside his mind. Trapped on a starbase in the deep voids of K-space, Shelley Burchill and Susan Theunis discover that Pompey-LITE still harbours a mortal grudge against them... As the alien Kiiren demand to search Capitol’s habitats for their quarry, Chris Taylor, the LIs that control those habitats must decide at last where their loyalties lie – to the Empire, or to the Emperor. And to halt a conspiracy of sabotage against Irian-occupied Regina, Mark Ibsen must hunt down and confront… himself.
Watch your step – there are no easy moves in the Empire Dance.
