Im loving this ... Im not even half way through and Ive realised that my understanding of the latter stages of backgammon was childlike! ... excellent stuff ... already looking forward to more in the series.

Generous Michy does it again with the 2nd installment in his bg epic. This book is quite specific and is probably less applicable to broader game concepts when compared to his 1st book; but it's a fun and easy read nonetheless. My biggest takeaway is that the general rule of thumb that backgammon is a beauty contest doesn't always hold - there are some great positions in here where the ugly play IS the right play. In the end, Nono continues to shine and takes on more daring storylines. I'm hoping Michy doesn't get screamed at by the right-wing bg community, à la Nolan, for his historically inaccurate inclusion of Nono in this version of the Odyssey.

In backgammon, I've experienced many endgame moments where I feel like I'm making plays with no legitimate reason to back them. This book helped me by defining fundamental rules and easy-to-remember proverbs for endgame strategy. Now I have clearer objectives and easily recognize dangerous positions. Many players oversimplify this part of the game, so it's important to spend time studying it.
