Meredith has rules. As a “professional cuddler” at Human Touch Companions, it’s a necessity. Her number one rule: Don’t get attached to clients and don’t let them get attached to her. She’s never had a problem with that until she meets Kieran.
The adorable Irishman hires Meredith for emotional support in facing his estranged family, but he’s the one who ends up comforting her as she tries to come to terms with her beloved mother’s slide into the heartbreaking abyss of Alzheimer’s. It's only when Meredith sees how much she's leaning on Kieran that she realizes she's blurred the lines between professional and personal, but even worse? She’s broken her number one rule. She’s gotten attached to a client.
Meredith knows the best solution is to resume a strictly professional relationship. But Kieran makes her feel something she never thought she'd feel again. Surely that's worth breaking her own rules for?
Marie Landry lives and writes in a cozy apartment in Ontario, Canada, surrounded by books and Funko Pops. An avid reader from a young age, she loves getting lost in characters’ worlds, whether they’re of her own making or someone else’s. She particularly loves stories with as much of an emphasis on self-discovery and friendship as on romance...but don’t leave out the romance!
When not doing bookish things, you can often find her taking pictures, cooking, scrolling Instagram (find her at @marielandry.author), daydreaming about frolicking through the Scottish Highlands, or listening to the same music she's loved since the '90s. She's an unapologetic nerd and fangirl, and that, along with her mental health advocacy, is often woven into her books.

I’m not sure I can write a coherent review. This made me sob and touched me.
I thought it was great and also I hated parts of it.
This woman is dealing with her mom having Alzheimer’s. And her mom made her promise to not visit her once she got bad. Ugh. I hate that sort of thing.
This is a heavier story than I am up for. And I hate that her mom made her promise that.
Sobbing.
The hero is lovely. He’s just a little taller than her. Which I think makes him about 5’9”? He was one of her clients and she pushes him away because she doesn’t want to get personal with a client. It felt like a stupid rule and ended up being a point that she works through in the book. He’s lovely and supportive and so are her friends.
This book deals with depression, baby abandonment (from past), adoption, toxic family relationships, Alzheimer’s, loss due to dementia, therapy, and rules for how to live and when to ignore them. I feel like the dealing with her mom’s dementia is a huge theme but the complicated nature of interacting with someone with dementia is basically “don’t do it” which gives short shrift to anyone who can’t avoid it. And undervalues the relationship you can still have with someone with dementia.
What you can expect from MAYBE YOU: ☆A swoony slow-burn romance ☆Rock-solid friendships ☆A main character learning to navigate life through depression and grief ☆Many cups of tea ☆U2's Joshua Tree ☆A road trip to my favourite Canadian city - Kingston, ON - featuring real places (including one of my favourite restaurants, my favourite bakery, and a certain beautiful castle) ☆Lots of feels, a few giggles, and an overall feeling of hope ♥
Side note: Meredith was first introduced in ONLY YOU, and while I sincerely hope you'll check out Ivy and Hugh's story (sassy and bookish Chinese-Canadian heroine, hot Scot hero, antics at Santa's Village, and a black cat named Fiddlesticks, just to give you a tiny preview), MAYBE YOU can 100% be read as a standalone.
Easily my favourite read of 2019 so far! I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a book this much… Actually, I can, because it was Marie Landry’s last book, Only You! Since the moment I finished that wonderful read, I have been waiting for the release of Maybe You, and it was well worth the wait!
I loved this book so much that I don’t think I can write a coherent review. I knew I would love it from the moment I read the blurb – from a hot, sexy Irishman to the unique concept of Human Touch Companions. I couldn’t wait to read it. I loved the idea of HTC, and of course, the gorgeously sexy Irishman, but mainly I loved Meredith, the main character. Meredith is struggling with unrecognised depression and coping with her mum’s decline into Alzheimer’s disease, which is something I related to so much, and something you rarely see mentioned in contemporary fiction, and it’s dealt with sensitively and admirably. The family issues that Kieran’s going through are also handled brilliantly, another thing you don’t see men struggling with in books very often, so kudos to Marie for breaking more boundaries.
You don’t need to have read Only You to read this book – it’s a standalone that gives us a chance to catch up with characters from the previous book, and I loved it even more for that. Hugh is still one of the most gorgeous fictional men ever written!
I loved the romance, and the deeper issues explored with so much sensitivity and grace and just the right touch of humour too, and really enjoyed spending time with Meredith and Kieran, and looked forward to picking up my Kindle every night. It made me laugh and cry. (And I do mean CRY. Full-on sobbing at 3am because I couldn’t put it down!) Highly recommended – never mind five stars, it deserves at least fifty stars! It’s only July but I can’t imagine another book beating this for my favourite read of 2019!
I was so intrigued by the idea of a professional companion falling for her client, but to be honest I was a teensy bit dissapointed with the way this played out.
The companion relationship between Meredith and Kieran and the tension that came from that was great while it lasted, but it ended pretty quickly. Then the majority of the early stages of their relationship are skipped over, and it felt like we were told a lot of things, rather than shown them. For example, we miss the early stages of their physical relationship, and are also told that Meredith is in love with Keiran, rather than being shown the progression of her feelings. I would have liked to have seen these things happen, rather than skimming over them.
One thing I really liked about this book was Meredith's character growth. Her progression from always upholding her sunny exterior to slipping into a depression, to seeking help felt very accurately written. Her struggles with her mother's dementia were also particularly emotional to read about and were written with such care.
I would maybe classify this as more of a woman's fiction book, rather than a romance, because Meredith's character development definitely takes centre stage here. This wasn't quite what I was expecting (based on the more romance-heavy Marie Landry book I read prior to this), but anyone who enjoys women's fiction combined with romance would like this.
“It was you who told me we had met for a reason. And that it was okay to feel what I was feeling and hope for the best. Your talk of signs and the universe and things happening for a reason had a big effect on me.” ~ Maybe You; Marie Landry
I absolutely adored reading this book and learning more about Meredith! I loved reading her story with Kieran—I'm a complete sucker for Irishmen, apparently—and exploring more of Ivy's and Hugh's life after the events of Only You!
Meredith is someone that reminds me to trust in the universe even whwn things are going to hell. I believe that people enter our lives for a reason... Especially when they keep coming back. When I first met hwr character a few months ago, that was one of the things that had completely struck a chord with me.
Kieran is an amazing man and so good for Meredith. I also think that she's really good for him. They just simply get on so well.
This book had me fighting tears a few times with how relatable certain sections were. I actually found myself crying once I finished the epilogue. It usually takes a lot for me to cry and this book manages to do just that. So did Only You. Marie's simply that amazing of an author and so are her characters!
I've been in a reading funk and I picked up Marie Landry's latest, MAYBE YOU, in the hopes of breaking my year of hit-and-miss reads. I've been anticipating this book since Marie shared the description on social media, so I figured I was in for a great story. And I was right! I found myself swept away by Kieran (a swoony Irish book boyfriend!) and Meredith's story. Marie's characters felt real and engaging, and I was rooting for them as individuals and a couple. But MAYBE YOU isn't just a boy-meets-girl love story; it's also a tale about a daughter's love for her mother. This storyline grabbed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I also appreciated the real depiction of grief and depression (two subjects that I've dealt with much in my own life) in MAYBE YOU. We need more realistic portrayals, and Marie always nails it. Highly recommend! I hope these two characters appear in future Marie Landry novel! (FYI - Hugh and Ivy from Landry's previous book, ONLY YOU, are also featured here in MAYBE YOU—I love when that happens!)
Meredith is a professional cuddler - she doesn't get involved with her clients lives beyond the cuddling experience. Enter Kieran, as Irish as they come, and just so darn cute. He hires Meredith to help him when his family comes to visit. They develop an attraction, but she needs to keep it professional, and won't get involved. A few months later, they run into each other socially, and figure it's okay to begin a relationship. This is a very poignant story - Meredith is dealing with the loss of her mother (who's alive but has late stage Alzheimer's and doesn't want Meredith to visit her) and doesn't realize that she's battling depression as a result. I loved this story - seeing Meredith and Kieran's relationship grow, and how much they help each other with their issues. This is y first read from this author - certainly not the last.

She is a human cuddler for those who needs a hug and someone they can confine in. She never blurred the lines between patient and professional before but she is finding that with him. She is getting closer and closer to him but she knows she needs to take a step back from it. Will she be able to step away? Will it be good for them to have some space? What if she does not want to be away from him? See just where it will all go

The writing will draw you in after only a few pages and have you finishing the book in one sitting. There is the perfect amount of angst and romance and grit to keep you hooked.
I loved how their relationship unfolded so we could see these amazing characters grow in ways you never expected. I would suggest picking up a copy asap, you will not be disappointed.

This book brought ALL. THE. FEELS. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I swooned!! I so related to Meredith and her need not to burden her friends. I appreciated how she tried to help herself first. Her friends were truly wonderful and I'm so grateful she had them. Kieran was just wonderful. I LOVED how he loved her. Yes, she also loves him. But he let her know how she was his person. Okay, I'm tearing up again - Just so much to LOVE!!
Meredith works for Human Touch Companions as a "professional cuddler" where she meets Kieran who is a client. In her quest to help him with his family issues he helps her with her's. This is a really sweet romance and I loved both characters.

The great plot was well written and the characters were so well developed that as I turned each page the chemistry between the characters kept me totally hooked until the very last page! Really enjoyed the charters I got to know on this journey.

A very enjoyable read which touches on some difficult subjects, Alzheimers and mental health. The author treated both with a well throughout and sensitive touch. I was fully immersed in this storyline from the start and I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. It was a very believable read. Definitely worth a try.
What an emotional ride! This one was so deep and caring. Meredith's journey from "professional cuddler" to self discovery and emotional growth was inspiring and heartwarming. Kieran was incredibly supportive and amazingly sweet and I loved seeing Ivy and Hugh beeing so present for their friend. Would die for a sneak peak of Meredith's travel stories!
The book is a good romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is an enjoyable read.

This was a touching and adorable story. It's touching, heartfelt and we'll written with a great display of the characters growth and how they deal with their issues and finding humor in the little things.

This book is sickly sweet... In a good way! It's very romantic with little steam. The slow burn is nice but it does drag occasionally. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Action packed, sexy, fun, engaging and emotional adventure filled with danger, suspense and undeniable passion... an edge of your seat read from beginning to end and so hard to put down. Really enjoyed the charters I got to know on this journey.

This was such a cute read, despite some of the heavier topics. Which also made it quite an emotional one. And can I just say I would LOVE to have the job of professional cuddler. Like sign me up please.
My heart went out to Meredith and the issues with her mom and her Alzheimer's. And our hero Kieran!!! Considering the toxic family he came from, he turns out to be an amazing man with such a big heart. I really liked how he wasn't afraid to put himself out there. While Meredith's tendency to throw obstacles into the relationship really frustrated me, I appreciated watching her grow and open herself up.
This was a quick enjoyable read that I didn't want to put down. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I have never heard of a human touch companion, and am now wondering if this is a real thing? Lol I really enjoyed this story and getting to know some more characters that live in Marie Landry’s brain. I really enjoy the character of Kieran and witnessing the tough family he comes from. The mental health issues that are written about in this story are so important and I am always grateful that Marie includes such topics in her books! Meredith definitely has some struggles in this one and my heart went out to her a LOT. It was also fun to meet characters who appear in other stories!!!! I love character crossover and am always happy to scratch the itch of wanting to know more about supporting characters lives! If you have not read any of Marie’s books and you are a contemporary romance fan, I definitely recommend you give them a read!!
I really really loved the character growth in this. So well done with a heavy dose of humor and heart. Meredith is best friend material and Kieran is downright swoon-worthy. I love love love this story!
