Sir Harold Mario Mitchell Acton was a British writer, scholar and dilettante who is probably most famous for being believed, incorrectly, to have inspired the character of "Anthony Blanche" in Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisited (1945).
Acton is at his best when describing and invoking nature and at his worst when attempting to write about women. There is an element of "try hard" present in this collection, Acton's first poetry collection. His attempts to convey the life of the dissolute and world-weary just didn't do much for me.
