On a quiet Sunday morning a gunman storms a Baptist church in the small town of Hopefield, Pennsylvania, and the nation’s attention is riveted on this latest mass shooting. One man, District Minister Russell Flannigan, rushes to the scene to provide leadership during the church’s hour of desperation, only to find himself swept into a riptide of events. Caught in the glare of the national media, he must hold the congregation together while trying to answer the questions everyone is Why did this happen? What motivated the shooter? But as the answers come, so do deeper and more disturbing questions. And the growing revelations threaten to disclose secrets others are desperate to keep hidden. With his integrity and his reputation under assault, Russell Flannigan must decide what price he’s willing to pay to get to the truth…because those who have the most to lose will pay any price to stop him. In HOPEFIELD Tim has woven together suspense, intrigue, and an assortment of authentic characters into a compelling story that will pull you in and not let go until the very end. And like his first novel THE GOD PORTAL, you will discover the “Oh, wow!” moments which will speak to your soul.
A thrilling roller-coaster suspense of good versus evil. One evil shepherd can destroy a church, and a mass shooting at Hopefield Baptist Church opens a Pandora's box of trouble and sinful secrets. The story is action-packed, but also loaded with emotion and spiritual dilemmas. Some of the people have bad motives and evil intent, but some of the faithful, well-meaning congregants differ in their understanding and opinions, leading to lots of conflict. This novel keeps readers enthralled—wanting to know what happens next, saturated in a plethora of emotions, and thinking about how they would respond in such a situation.
Two things kept me from giving this 5 stars. 1) There were too many wrong word errors (if for it, thought for though, etc.).
Hopefield is a must-read. I did not want to put this book down, and while I wanted to know how it ended, I hated to see it end. The storyline was incredible and the characters so real, that I kept wanting to do an online search to see if this was a true story. The book had enough twists and turns to keep me fully engaged. The action kept me on the edge of my seat, and the characters brought me laughter and tears. I read this author's book "The God Portal" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was almost afraid to try this one, because I didn't think it could possibly be as good as the other one. Boy! Was I wrong! I will be thinking about this book for a long time to come. I highly recommend this book - I cannot say enough good things about it.
I read so many books & while I enjoy many, every once in a while one will really grab my attention. I’ve been so enthralled that my poor family couldn’t even pull me away. The author did such an amazing job telling this story vividly. The corruption in the church, the split in the congregation & the faith of a down to earth pastor who humbly admits he has many faults made for a much enjoyable & memorable story. I can see myself reading the book again in the future. Can’t wait to read more by the author!
After reading Tim Ferguson's first book, The God Portal, I was anxious to read the second book , Hopefield.
For me, both books started rather slowly, but soon picked up in interest and grew in intensity. What a ride! Hopefully we will see more of his talent explode on the page in more adventures. Thank you for these great reads.
Exciting storyline. Hearing Gods words thru the voice of others. I really believed this may have happened. How people can be fooled by the devil. Evil is around us always. Knowing I am a child of God, so loved and under his care keeps me walking even thru most difficult of times. I encourage all to read this book.
I was sucked, unaware, into this mystery by an intriguing cover. A mystery with a ministerial background would not have tempted me, however once started, hard to put it down. More info than I ever wanted on the inner workings of a church, I enjoyed the premise and truthfully, learned a lot. A little wordy in places, well worth the read.
Extremely suspenseful with many solid biblical truths to be gleaned by those who enjoy reading a God honoring work of fiction. I would highly recommend.
I enjoyed reading this book. The start was a bit slow, so it took some time before I got hooked. For the second half of the book, it was hard to put down.
