WHEN THE POWER GOES OUT & CHAOS ERUPTS AROUND EVERY CORNER, WHO CAN YOU TRUST WITH YOUR LIFE?
Rules of Conflict: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (Survival Rules Series Book 2) by Jack Hunt is a well written tell of a group of people in a small town in upper Montana trying to survive the chaos of the aftermath of a EMP that had taken out all electronics, communications, and most of the vehicles.
As Tyler and his friends (Nate & Erika) reach Whitefish, Montana, the feeling of finally reaching safely among Tyler's family and the town he grew up in, but safety is nothing but a illusion. With escaped convicts on a killing spree, the town everything but being prepared for what their future is now, Tyler, his bother Cory, and his estranged father do everything they can just to stay alive and keep their love ones and friends alive against the odds.
This is an intense, intriguing, suspenseful, and action-packed book that will hold your interest from the first page to the last. If you're into action-packed apocalyptic science fiction, this is a great book for you.
Hope you will also enjoy this book and series.

"The community was only as strong as its individuals, and if they neglected one another, it would collapse."
The story became much more interesting as it progressed and that twist at the end WOW! Really enjoyed this and am glad can continue reading more into this with Books 3 & 4.
I've been drawn into this story and can't quit now... Give me more. Interesting characters and plot... And I got a bit emotional for certain events that occurred. Now I' going to dive into the next book. So far a great binge read worthy series.
I am truly enjoying this story. Quite suspenseful. A few minor mistakes, but ones that can be over looked. I'm crossing my fingers that perhaps we'll be privy to some of Andy's wisdom, especially concerning plants in the next book.
A tension filled book 2 in the series. So much for a peaceful small town. With half of the inmates still alive, with no-one the wiser, Gabrielle, their leader than decides to infiltrate the town and cause havoc and death. He wants the man responsible for his twins death, who was shot and killed by one of the towns people, Corey. Totally a page turner, fast evolving action and I think book #3 is going to be where threads from this book come into whole complete tense filled reads too!
Surviving the end of the world is hard enough. Add family drama, revenge and hate to the mix and you have a great story. Awesome characters the you don't know whether to love them or hate them. Reading the second part of this series just make you want to read the next book. Jack Hunt has a way of writing that helps to relate to each character, enjoying the ride which is the continuing drama of life and family.
Fast paced and had to read all in one setting. Jack Hunt never disappoints in his books. In addition, you don't have to wait for 6 months like many writers for the next book in the series.
If you want LOTS of action, danger and gunfire, you'll love this book.
If you're looking to learn much about the "Rules of Conflict" the title implies you'll be disappointed.
This is a fast plot -- to the point of improbability, maybe even impossibility. Again, lots of action. Now, lots of people LOVE more action and less thinking or talking. If that's you, you'll love this one.
Personally, I found the characters still sharply yet thinly drawn. There was some additional fleshing out of characters over the previous book, but not enough so, IMO.
One clear theme does come through: The EMP Apocalypse is going to be exceedingly dangerous and deadly.
CAUTIONS: mostly clean, but with concerns. Threat of rape abound, both explicit and implicit. More concerning is a scene where a kidnapped woman uses sexual wiles (specifically, oral sex) to seduce, then assault and escape her captors. Personally, I have problems with how it was suggested so easily and breezily, almost as a skill young women should know, for automatic and early use in just such situations. Not the least bit of hesitation, reluctance or consideration of ethics, much less the morality involved. Personally, that's not something I'd want to teach my teenage daughter. Others readers may not mind such a scene, especially as it was more suggestive than graphic. For me, that doesn't matter. Crossing such moral thresholds shouldn't be treated so lightly. For this reason, I wouldn't want my teenagers to read this particular book.
Apocalyptic novels are my guilty pleasure and this two-book (so far) series is a good example of the better version of the crop. I've put some aside after a couple of chapters for being stupid and some are by over-the-top partisan right wing nut-jobs that spew their putrid jingoist bile all over their pages. But this one was a joy to read and it kept me reading so that I completed it a few days. Tyler is complicated and the sexual tension with Erika is probably of my own making. (Hopefully they consummate that in book 3.) Nate's a little too good. I it's hard to accept that a smartphone thief would be well grounded and loyal to people he knew only for a week. He should have been willing to shank Tyler for his car on day one. It's not perfect, but that's not what I'm looking for in these books. It's also not haughty literature that generations will dissect and debate. It's what it's supposed to be --- a fun distraction with enough left undone to bring you back for more.
Book 2 of Jack Hunt’s post-apocalyptic thriller series is a bit of a let down. The EMP catalyst that gets the plot rolling in Book 1 seems to merely serve as a backdrop for an over abundance of killing in Book 2. Surely we are approaching a shortage of LEOs in this relatively small town by now. And surely SOME of them can shoot at least as accurately or more so than ALL of the criminals that are ravaging this community. Granted, the escaped prisoners get their due eventually, but only after a killing spree which SHOULD have led to more unraveling of the threads of the community…even a tightly knit one would begin to come apart with all of this destruction going on around them. I will continue reading the series for now because the characters HAVE been developed in a way that draws me to them, so that is definitely a plus.

Disasters bring out the best and the worst in people
People seem to become who they truly are in a disaster such as this massive emp. The inmates became even more evil, as if that was possible. Many of the good people sacrificed to help others. They often lost their loved ones, their necessities and even their lives. It appeared that the good people suffered more and lost more than the evil ones. The lost lives were heartbreaking. One wonder s if civilization will survive. This book is particularly depressing. Let us hope that the next 2 books in the series give us a glimmer of some good things to come. I am completely invested in these characters and need to see the good side win.
One of those times where the characters are so deep you either love them or love to hate them. Andy's sons are understandably rebelious against his manner of fathering. Constantly training and testing them to be able to survive any circumstance, but never providing that needed emotional growth to go with it. The two brothers know their stuff when it comes to survival skills; but, have shied away from their father's mentality to the point of jeapardizing themselves and their friends/family, just to spite him. And in the end, their resentment is too great to accept Andy's help for what it is; thus, forcing them to learn the hard way.
As with Rules of Survival, this book has the good qualities of zombie survival fiction, without all those pesky zombies.
I had a couple minor gripes with this book. One could be chalked up to the character being irrational, But the other seems like a flaw: specifically, that someone had a charged phone with which to show off a video five days after an EMP took out power.
Even with these small niggling annoyances, I still enjoy this book a great deal. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this style of fiction.
Mikes Meili does sms amazing job with the various voices and characters. Jack Hunt pulls you in and keeps the story going. While Erika is proving to be a survivor I still find her annoying. The characters are rich and multi dimensional and so is she.... but I’d still like to slap her. Lol Tyler and Corey are amazingly well written and so is Nate. He definitely grew on me. A reluctant good guy. Already finished book 3 as well so I’ll review it next.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.
Just as painful to read as the first book. I thought I’d go against my better judgement and try this one though the first book was frustrating. I’m sorry to say I wasted 8 hours of my life. Between the back and fourth perspectives of multiple characters and annoying personality traits I needed up skimming portions of the book just so I could get through it. It’s supposed to be a survival book but it was too angsty and full of family drama. The only character I halfway liked was Nate...
The survival in this story is not so much about the EMP event as surviving the several groups of deranged killers. The EMP seems more of a mechanism to remove the possibility of effective law enforcement. Certainly, the community does not seem terribly interested in planning for or trying to mitigate the fact that food delivery is gone and clean water accessibility may not be far behind. There is a surprise revelation that was rather easy to guess and it appears to set up the next book.
I've read several Jack Hunt's series, and have been fascinated by them all. But this storyline goes beyond the average survivalist/post apocalyptic books in the character development and family conflict. It's not another 'how to survivor's books, but rather a complex story about family and a small community without the obligatory gangs. Looking forward to the next book!
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. While I realize that many mistakes would be made in the aftermath of an EMP detonation, this book is filled with bad decisions and stubborn refusals to listen to any advice. Those decisions lead to, of course, catastrophic results. It also ended rather abruptly. It is an interesting storyline and I came to care about a few of the characters.
That's one he'll of an ending!!!! Book two keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the action and suspense!!! Makes you really hate some characters, like you just want to reach into the book and strangle the crap out of them!!!!! That's a sure sign of a good author and book!!!!
So we are getting to know the characters better and starting to care for some of them. The book is not as crude as the first one so that’s helpful. The premise that the “Christians” are the nutcases and cowardly murderers rubs me the wrong way. I’ll get the last book and read it but just to hope that it will change for the better.
Audible:Excellent follow up to the first book!I enjoyed meeting up with the people we left before, even Andy.Family means more than anything in the post apocolyptic world.Tyler finds that out in a hard way.Miles Meili was a fine narrator.I liked Judes voice especially.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Compelling story about what happens when a disaster throws society into chaos. I particularly like that the female characters are as strong and brave as the males. I also like that the dog, Bailey, is an important part of the group's survival.
This is the conclusion of the two book series . But I think there should be more books in the making. Everyone seems to like the books. I will be following your releases to see if you make a new book. Can't wait. Really great story. Thanks for the read.
I read these types of books weekly.... And I have to say this one got me from the start. It is well written, and not the normal setting, which made it the better. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
This is an awesome book and truly describes how humans behave when they fear the unknown. How they punish sometimes the innocent instead of the guilty!
