William L. O'Neill was an historian specializing in 20th century America. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and his doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley. He taught at the universities of Pittsburgh, Colorado and Wisconsin before accepting a position at Rutgers University in 1971, where he taught until his retirement in 2006.
Dated but helpful survey of early 1900's Progressive politics and economics. Somewhat personality driven history punctuated by some dubious claims for socialism and anarchism, but salutary for its brevity and notes. The 1975 paperback version published by Dodd, Mead and Co. of NY, NY was obviously used in the late seventies as a college text based on the highlighting markups.
