The Shawnee and the Fox tribes have joined together in an unprecedented war to drive the white man out of their lands once and for all. And if Dan'l can't whip the desperate settlers into a mighty fighting force soon, he--and all the people of Boonesborough--might not survive the next attack.
This is another fun entry in the Dan'l Boone paperback series.
An Indian attack on Boonesburough leaves a family dead. Ther person responsible is a Shawnee chief who mostly wants to kill Boone as revenge for events recounted in an earlier novel.
A lot of the settlers want to march out and kill every Indian they can find, but Boone wants only to get the persona responsible and ensure the safety of the community. To this end, he forms a small fighting force tasked with destroying Shawnee caches of weapons and supplies.
The ensuing adventure is a hardship-filled journey into Indian territory, battling the elements and other dangers inherent in the wilderness. This caps off with a rousing battle sequence in which most of the Rangers (badly outnumbered) draw off enough Indians to allow Boone and one companion to destroy the supply caches. It's an unusual and very exciting set piece.
