Blue and Gray Roses of Intrigue

Rate this book
Although the role of women in the Civil War has long been neglected and overlooked in historical publications, their participation in varying degrees cannot be dismissed as minute. The women that are portrayed in Blue and Gray Roses of Intrigue are a few of the many who served as operatives to both Union and Confederate troops. They carried secret messages and invaluable information regarding the positions of enemy regiments and their movement. These spies crossed battle lines and penetrated social circles in their dedicated attempt at securing any and all information available. Many times risking their lives, these brave women were devoted to their respective causes and are well-deserving of honor and recognition for their deeds.

A short, but interesting read on the role of various women as spies during the Civil War. Not a comprehensive read, but more of an introduction to the subject. Some of these women were very crafty, and this was a pleasure to read.
