Killing Time

Rate this book
Sergei Rodin is a Russian millionaire, walking a tightrope between his rivals and the corrupt politicians of Moscow. In his heart he knows it can’t last. But he has done everything to save the person he loves most - his son Peter. Divorcing his wife Yelena, he sent her and the boy to the States and then to England where Peter studied to become a doctor. Yet every year, father and son meet -in Switzerland, Italy and once in the South of France - where they forget the terrible pressures and dangers of the new Russia and talk as a family. Then, a week before his annual vacation, Sergei makes one deal too many - the purchase of a major weapons complex over the head of the ruthless Mayor of Moscow - and is machine gunned to death. Peter, who to all intents and purposes has become a Westerner, is persuaded to come Moscow by one of his father’s business associates. There he discovers the depth and breadth of his father’s Mafia dealings and is appalled. Peter is determined to halt the violence and if possible to bring peace to the Moscow streets. On a visit to his new arms factory, he meets the Mayor - his father’s killer - and negotiates a cease-fire. But unknown to him, the Mayor has ordered his mother Yelena’s assassination. When she is killed, Peter’s metamorphosis from English doctor to Russian gangster is complete. As the anger and hurt consume him, his western conditioning takes second place and the killing begins in earnest ...
