Mistview Heights #3

On the Ranger

Rate this book
Shane Aarons is going to ruin my national park.
...And he may also ruin me.
The best thing about being a park ranger?
Having the forest to myself.
The last thing I want is our pretty-boy new hire Shane on my land.
He’s boyish. Full of attitude. Infuriating.
But a strange thing keeps happening when he’s around:
For some reason, he wants me.
He likes my flannel. Calls me lumberjack. Touches my beard.
I’m getting addicted to his attention.
...And now I’m touching him, too.
I’m straight. At least, I thought I was.
But now my mind won’t shut up about Shane.
His body, his laugh, his lips.
When he hurts himself hauling a wood pile, I need to take care of him.
And now he’s in my house.
In my bed.
And this isn’t a craving I want to control.

On the Ranger is a 76,000-word MM romance about a gruff lumberjack and a city boy who need each other badly. It features very high-heat scenes and is the third book set in the Mistview Heights world, but can absolutely be read as a standalone novel.

The city boy and the mountain man!

Micah is a true mountain man, and he has the beard and flannels to prove it. He works as a ranger at Mistview National Park, a job he enjoys even if it is a little tedious. He's still smarting from his break up with his girlfriend, Olivia, and now his best friend and co-worker, Connie, has announced her retirement. Micah just hopes that whoever management hires to fill her shoes will someone he can get along with.

Shane doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. At 25, he couldn't make the grades to stay in college, and he's had a bunch of random jobs that never worked out. Now he's seen a help-wanted ad for a park ranger, with the words No Experience Necessary. Perfect!

When Shane sees Micah for the first time, there is an instant attraction - on Shane's part. His ultimate fantasy is a bearded mountain man! As for Micah, not so much. At least not obviously. Plus with all the mixed messages Micah is sending out, Shane isn't sure there's a connection or nor!

This is a sweet, slow-burn romance featuring two guys who have both been hurt in the past, and don't realize that what they need most is standing right in front of them.

This is the third book in a series, but it does great as a stand-alone. Micah's brother Mason and Mason's boyfriend Kade (from Book 2) show up for a short scene featuring Micah's family, and the main characters from Book 1 are nowhere at all. So read and enjoy!

Another great book by Raleigh Ruebins !
This is 3rd book in Mistview Heights series but it can be read as a standalone.

It is a book about beginnings, coming to terms with one's past and finding happiness. The story is simply LOVELY!
I loved Shane and Micah, even though it seemed like he was always afraid of something, I am not sure if I would be as understanding as Shane was. In the same time it was kind of endearing, all his fears and doubts made him somehow more real.

I really liked this book, it is well written and fast paced. Both MCs are likable and their actions are (more or less) understandable. It was great to finally see Shane believe in himself and his ability to be a responsible adult. It was a sweet love story, full of emotions and great chemistry between MCs. Beautiful park with cherry blossoms working as a background here made me crave to be there and see all of this. It was simply beautiful.

This is an excellent addition to the Mistview Heights series and I really enjoyed it. It is well-written, sweet, funny, low angst, has an intriguing storyline, the setting is beautiful and the characters are great. I love Shane and Micah and how their relationship develops slowly even though they are very attracted to each other. They both have baggage from their pasts that holds them back but they are exactly what the other needs. Shane struggles to find his place in the world and his overbearing parents cause him to doubt himself. Micah has been trying for six months to get over the end of his relationship with a woman and his attraction to men is new and confusing to him. This story has some drama, interfering family, a terrible boss, a lack of communication and two sweet men finding their way to happiness. The ending is good and I look forward to reading the next book in this entertaining series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Shane just failed out of school - again. With nowhere to go and unsure what to do next, he answers an ad for a park ranger. Micah has been in a holding pattern since his long term girlfriend left him for another guy. Then his long time partner at the park retired. Uneasy with change, Micah doesn't know what to make of his new partner, Shane. At first, Micah is uncomfortable with Shane's easy going, relaxed manner. Shane is unsure what to make of Micah's reserved manner, and isn't even sure Micah likes him. But Shane is stirring feelings in Micah that Micah has never felt before; feelings he doesn't know what to do with. As they both skirt new and unusual feelings, their friendship grows, but what will it take for them to reach for the next level?

Ms Ruebins latest is a sweet story of two men who are searching for something, but not quite sure what that something is. What they find is completely unexpected.

I very much so enjoyed this installment of the series. My only criticism would be in the physical descriptions of Micah. I mean, I know he wore flannels and had a beard, but other than that, I was coming up empty on picturing him.
Through Micah's eyes, I got a full description of Shane; everything from how gorgeous and sexy he was, eyes, hair, bod and everything in between. For Micah, I did get a lot of insight into his personality and character, which really, gave him a very attractive appearance, but, when using the author's cues, I had to rely on my own imagination for filling in the physical characteristics.
All in all, it was a great story that really took me to the National park, and I could see those cherry blossoms in all their glory. An enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this pair. Shane is younger and rudderless, trying to find his place in life. Micah is lamenting the loss of Olivia, his long-time partner, to another man but he is dead certain of the rightness of his calling as a ranger in the park service. I liked the natural park setting as a backdrop to their growing friendship and attraction. Plenty of passion, emotional growth for both characters, some obstacles along the way and a happy ending. Well-written and good depth for the main characters.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

This was a sweet romance and a good example of the worse of times ending an actual gift!

This is a perfect book for someone depressed or at their low point. If you thinks its the worse & given up hopes pick yourself up you are worth it. New job, new relationship whatever could be just around the corner. Shane has the pressure from his parents to fit into their dream of his future. Shane just really needs to fit into his own Destiny. Micah was In a serious relationship when it was unexpectedly ended. The shock drove him to tumbled downhill and walls up. This was a good story! MM romance

I enjoyed this read very much. It kept me intrigued right to the end. It reminded me of how my parents held control over me. I did not turn out to be in life what they wanted, just like Shane. I did, however, did what I wanted, I loved it, and am happy to this day.

I only gave this 4-stars. There are too many sentences which contain the word "that" when it is unnecessary. If you go through the writing and come to "that," eliminate it. The sentence reads not only just fine, but better. But don't let "that" stop you. It's a fun read.

Micah is still struggling with his break-up six months later and he has been having dreams that are freaking him out. Shane has failed out of college again and is just trying to get his life in order.
Shane is the new park ranger and he can't figure out why Micah hates him. Micah is struggling with his feelings toward Shane.
Together they are sweet. This is a low angst read with some drama.

I'm going to be honest, this was pretty slow and I had the hardest time placing these characters even though one of them was in the previous book. I also didn't feel much chemistry for the majority of the book so I had a hard time understanding why these two were together apart from proximity. I did end up liking the last chunk when more of their relationship developed but it definitely took a while.

The plot had good bones, but the pacing was really off towards the end. From the time Shane blackmailed the boss felt like it dragged. And I feel like we never got to see more of the town and its citizens after the party. It felt so empty with just the two of them interacting in scenes.

I would have nixed the final surprise party scene and gone straight for the epilogue after Shane does his blackmail. And write some more interaction with them in town. But I still enjoyed it

I have to say, it took me a while to warm up to Micah. At first he was cold and confused, but once he figured it out and accepted his feelings and attraction to Shane, he became a completely different person, open and honest and just plain adorable. And they are pretty perfect for each other. I love it.

Another good story!

I should've gone into that line of work, to spend most of the day outdoors! I'd go to the mountains, with 4 seasons, lots of different wildlife, lots of inland lakes, and log cabins to live in! To retire close to all of it! OKAY, I'M GOING! Lol! THANK YOU, RALEIGH! ENJOY!

This was a good story. Shane, still figuring his life out, decided to try being a park ranger and meets Micah. Micah is just getting over a devastating break up and wasn't ready for his attraction to Shane. Despite all the misunderstandings, they've got good chemistry. Great storytelling.

Don't stop these stories. I usually read a book a day and a Ruebins book at least weekly. Alternate realities are the best!

I liked it better than the other three in the series... but what was with the lack of ranger uniforms for National Park rangers? and all the shenanigans at work? but at least these characters getting together was a lot more plausible than the first two books inho
