I really enjoyed this collection! It's a really lovely and touching set of essays, full of fascinating people, complex ideas, beautiful stories. Reading this feels like a connection to history and culture, and gives me a deeper appreciation for the relationships and the people in my own life. :)

Only two real standouts here, "Gert" by Paul Monette and "In Training" by Martin Palmer. Definitely a bit dated, but an interesting subject.
