This continues to be sweet and cute, not too complex.
The King didn't do much this time.
I liked Anit the romantic reptile best.

"If you have someone who believes in you…you can be strong over and over again."

This series keeps getting better and better! I'm not sure if this is marketed as a romance or not, but GOODNESS THAT ROMANCE!! There is *zero* inappropriate, but man if it didn't make me blush in that final chapter! I can't explain it because I don't know what it is about Sari and Leo's love story that made my cheeks burn, but this slow burn(?) romance is truly a sight to behold in this series.

Granted, while the romance is not a large part of the story in this volume, it in no way made this volume any less satisfying. We really see that Sari is no damsel-in-distress and was in fearful awe of how she goes about showing that. She's not prideful/haughty, but truly is willing to give all that she is to help others AND help the King in her own way. I totally loved it even if I was totally on edge with developments in this story.

And speaking of, Anubis! I am sooo disappointed in him! I totally get he is doing what he feels is best for the king, but this is too much. I am seriously unsure if he is just loyal to the king and has a dangerous zealousness or if he genuinely is maybe a "bad guy" here. I don't know what to think and it makes me angry and bummed because overall I really like his character, but hated his actions in this one. He's acting shady and I don't want to doubt him, but I'm doubting him.

I LOVE Amit! She is SO sweet and absolutely adore her friendship with Sari! Deeply looking forward to seeing more of her as this story goes on and 1000% rooting for her own potential romance!

Another fantastic volume! I love how Sari learns and realizes her own worth, the King wanting to live up to his name, and how it seems that maybe will get a wedding(?!) soon!

I love this series so far! This volume develops our heroine a little more and sets up the plot. She has to be tested in order to become Queen to the King of Beasts. This volume shows that first trial. I really liked it and I can't wait to see where the next volume takes the story.

This was a good second volume for this series. I know that sounds weird, but I have dropped quite a few series because the second volume wasn't nearly as good as the first. While that may be ridiculous, why would continue reading a series if the second volume was mediocre at best? Each volume of a series plays an integral role not just in continuing the story, but keeping the reader engaged with the story. At any point someone can drop a series if the volume they read didn't meet their expectations or made the worry the that the series wouldn't be as good as they thought. Small rant aside, this was a great volume. Readers got to see more of Seraphi and Leo's relationship, Seraphi gained a new friend in Amit (who is just too sweet!) and Seraphi starts taking steps to cement her role as Leo's bride. What I love about Seraphi is that she has found something to fight for. She was born solely to be a sacrifice and while she still does not value her life as much as most people, she still has so much determination to prove herself. She does devalue herself a lot, which I find completely reasonable, but she is always looking out for others and trying to find ways to better herself. She's an absolutely delightful character and I look forward to her future adventures.

This volume of the series follows Sariphi as she faces the start of her trials to become Queen Consort, at this point primarily blocked by Anubis (the jerk, ugh!). Sariphi was pretty cool in this volume (I mean, she always is, but usually she's more on the side of fluffy and adorable). She saw that she wasn't able to protect herself or do her duty, unlike everyone else, got fed up with it, and took steps to protect the person she loves and the life she has, even though it will put her in danger. Love her! The art in this volume is as gorgeous as ever, and also there was such a lovely moment between Sariphi and Leo towards the end where It was great! Overall, I really loved this volume! 100% recommended.

Another fine installment to this "Beauty and the Beast" type of manga series. I'm really banking that Sariphi is older than she looks (and given how most girls appear in manga, that's par for the course), and as long as that rings true for me, I can really enjoy this story as she and the King of Beasts grow closer to one another.

It's cute once you remember that he's only half beast..so it's kind of like a werewolf story..Ohh the things I say to keep myself sane 🤣

But, honestly, this is really cute for some reason ❤

In Summary

Even though Leo and Sariphi are devoted to one another, the purity of their relationship and the fact that Leo is generally in the form of a big tusked animal preclude the physical chemistry and sizzling scenes that characterize most romances. As such, once the princess candidate arc concludes, the narrative shifts away from Leo and Sariphi’s love to a set of tests concocted by opponents to a human queen. The specifics of who wields power within the Ozmargo court and the overall geopolitical landscape of the beast lands remains vague, but if you’re not concerned about such details, you can simply enjoy Sariphi undertaking a series of fairytale-like trials.

The Review
One of the embedded author’s notes in this volume confirms my guess that Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts was originally a short story, and its awkward world building continues as it struggles to create the background for the challenges Sariphi encounters. The introduction of warring beast clans and court intrigue demonstrate that Leonhart’s position as King of Beasts is not as absolute as it appeared in Chapter 1, but the details behind the military and political powers remain vague as does the overall geography of this fantasy world.

However, the thing that Tomofuji-sensei does lavish detail and attention on is new characters. Thus, we have the reptilians, Princess Amit and her crush Captain Jormungand. Amit is a comic blend of scary face (she’s got a big crocodile mouth and teeth) combined with a shy, girlie personality. In the lineup of haughty princesses vying to be Leo’s consort, she’s the awkward misfit. So of course, Amit and the sacrificial princess hit it off. Ultimately, the princess candidate arc winds up feeling like a high school squabble between nasty prisses and spunky outcasts, complete with a literal catfight.

With Amit added to the cast, Sariphi has a peer to interact with and to worry over her when her next obstacle appears: a set of tasks to prove her worth as queen. The narrative does not enumerate the list in its entirety. Rather, it appears that each individual task will be revealed at the time Sariphi approaches it, which means these tests are likely to occupy her for the next few volumes.

As mentioned in my previous review, Leo and Sariphi’s devotion is already established; even when other princesses are literally throwing themselves at Leo, none of them have a real chance of becoming Sariphi’s rival. So the plot is focusing instead on having Sariphi fight for the right to be by Leo’s side. Because Sariphi is an ordinary girl in a land of magical animals, the tests are reminiscent of hero trials in myths and fairy tales. As such, even though Sariphi’s affection for Leo is a key component of the story, the plot seems headed away from romance and more in the direction of fantasy adventure.

Extras include embedded author’s notes and the bonus manga, “The Beast Princess and the Regular King.”

Today's manga post is on Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts, Vol. 2 by Yū Tomofuji. It is 192 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has Sariphi, Cy, and Clops on it. As it is the second in the series, you need to have read the first volume to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, love stories, and court intrigue. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Sariphi. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- When an array of rival princesses descends upon the palace, Sariphi gains an unlikely ally in the princess of the reptile clan. A hopeless romantic, Princess Amit is determined to push her erstwhile sacrificial friend into the king's arms! But even with Amit cheering her on, will Sariphi be able to carry out the absurd set of tasks Chancellor Anubis concocts to prove she is worthy of being queen...?

Review- Sariphi has to actively choose if she wants to be queen in this volume. All the princesses have come to try and marry Leo. The cat princess even tries to kill Sariphi but Anubis is the real threat to her. He wants to out of the castle and for Leo to choose the right bride, not a human one. Also Sariphi gains a friend in the lizard princess, who becomes her personal attendant. Sariphi has many challenges in this volume but her faith in herself and in Leo is strong. There is world building in this volume with the reader seeing magic and the cost of doing magic. I am enjoying this series and I look forwarding to seeing Sariphi succeed.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Beware a feline scorned!

After the troublesome Lady Vivian's attempt at the King's heart the previous night this volume opens on a meal between the king , Sariphi, and the princesses who hope to also steal the king's favor and become his queen. Here we get to meet the lovable Princess Amit as we get an understanding about how fleeting a princesses worth truly is in this world of beast men and women. After dealing with other princesses we get to see Amit open up on who she truly cares for regardless of what her people want her to to do and those that do not wish to see Sariphi become the next queen demand she takes a test to prove her worth but if she fails her life may be forfeit. What is a girl to do when her feelings are put to the ultimate test of life and death?

I'll be honest though for all I enjoy seeing the blossoming affections between the king of beasts and Sariphi what I want now is plenty of princess Amit whose reptilian countenance can come off plenty scary at times but her heart is made of gold and a joy to see in action as the manga continues on. :)

I enjoy the art and monster design, there's a lot of cute/wholesome interactions, some decent fight scenes, plenty of drama.

But here's the thing. This is like the third manga I've read this week with the beauty and the beast thing going on, and while they all make a point to say that the female protagonist is high school/college age, they never, ever act that way. She is always incredibly small/frail/short/dainty. She is always utterly subservient. She is always younger than the male protagonist. And she always acts, despite claims of being 16/18/21, like a goddamn 11yo.

Sariphi begins a serious of challenges to be accepted as a worthy queen for the Beast King and ends up bound to a tiny little fat phoenix.

This series is adorable. I enjoy Sariphi's interactions with her new friend, the reptile princess Amit, who is trying to teach her to bake. Amit's crush on the head of the Royal Guard is sweet (though ridiculously on the romantic side, it fits well with the story). Cy and Clops provide nice bits of humor, particularly their reaction to crocodile-looking Amit who likes Sariphi so much she wants to 'eat her up'. I'll definitely continue this series.

This is a pretty creative retelling of beauty and the beast. I think its a great manga in its own right but something about it does seem... tired and cliched. If you've read a hundred beauty and the beast stories and you looking for something different I might skip this one... for now. If you love this kind of thing then by all means give it a try.

A great second volume to a series that is becoming my favourite! Its so cute and entertaining and when I start I can’t put it down. In this volume were introduced to Amit who is so sweet and Sir phoenix who is grumpy and always makes me laugh with the things he comes out with. I can’t wait to read volume 3.

The story has so much depth that I didn't anticipate while diving in.. the character growth is remarkable within the two first volumes and as odd as it may sound.. everyone can relate to this story because there's so much talk about personal growth and embracing our differences as individuals..

And I just can't put it down !
