This is another entertaining, amusing, and mildly disturbing collection of tales from Ellie Scott, this time themed around May Day and a small village in Yorkshire where on the surface things are delightful and quaint but underneath there is much more going on. I loved the different perspectives taken in each story, particularly those that got into the heads of the animals around the village, including some appearances from those we first met in Merry Bloody Christmas, which was an unexpected delight. Scott certainly has a talent for weaving the inocuous with the disturbing, and this collection is not different. And from now on I will be taking a much closer look at the BBQ offerings!

This was a delightful collection of short stories. The different voices that narrate each story and the wit that abounds in all the stories ensures that each story leaves you wanting for more. The way all the stories link together as different things happening all over a small town's May Day Fair is thrilling. It all falls into place quite perfectly!
While there is a good buildup to a monumental conclusion, the end doesn't quite do justice. It felt a bit rushed. But even then, it fails to make your lips curl downwards.
There are smiles galore. Cute little children. Cuter older geezers. Confused extraterrestrials. Clever domestic creatures. Brash teenagers. Sombre ghosts. It's a fair alright!

A hugely entertaining collection of short stories, all linked via the May Day events in small town England. As we've come to expect from Ellie Scott, there's a little bit of everything here: funny, weird, magical, mystical and downright 'yuk'!
Many of the characters appeared in Ms Scott's first short story collection: 'Merry Bloody Christmas', but you wouldn't need to have read that first to enjoy this book, although it's good to meet them here again.
I'm not sure which story I liked best; they're all good. But when you find a finger in your burger... No, I won't spoil it for you.
This collection gives you a super, lighthearted read. I thoroughly recommend it.

A strange little book. An easy light-hearted read, quintessentially English. Not sure I would read another in similar style.

Refreshingly fun
Full of humour, surprises, twists and turns this was a delightful couple of night's bedtime reading. Am immediately starting her other book and following the author for more.
