You Are Ok Finding Your Way When Life Doesn't Feel Ok
Dive into The Maine's new book featuring stories and lessons from the band's career. Evan Lucy (Former writer for Alternative Press Magazine) gives you insight on moments in the band's career on when they felt like things were not ok and investigates how the band made things OK again.
The lessons in the book were structured to not just apply to the band's career but lessons that will hopefully help you out when things don't feel ok.
A lot of people are probably never going to hear about this book. It's written by an independent band called The Maine. It focuses on some of the pitfalls that band has faced as well as some of the defining moments that have kept them going for 12 years. I've been a fan of The Maine for over a decade, almost at the start. To watch them evolve and grow not only as a band but as individuals has been a pleasure. Not only have I watched them grow, but I've grown with them. This book was short, just over 100 pages, but there was so much to take in. At the very core it's about a group of people who have worked hard (at times unconventionally) to achieve their goals and succeed at the things they do best: building community through their music. I would recommend this book to anyone feeling lost, uninspired, and like things will never fall into place. It doesn't matter if you've never heard of this band. This book illustrates the very human experience of learning from your past, growing with your present, and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Note: There are some typos and misprints. It doesn't take away from the actually book itself.
This book changed me in ways I will probably only understand in the future. But it was poorly edited and the quality of its design was lacking. It would have been greatly improved if it had been produced with the same attention to detail that The Maine puts into everything they do.
A fresh, untold perspective on both The Maine`s history (in particular regarding their earlier albums leading up to the release of ''You Are OK') and how each of the five members of the band survived pitfalls that only served to strengthen themselves, but their band mentality as well,
As a new appointed fan of The Maine, ''You Are Ok: Finding Your Way When Life Doesn't Feel Ok'' made me develop both a newer sense of appreciation for the band, and likewise a newfound desire to delve deeper into their discography and ventures.
In particular, to host a second listening party, in order to, to quote Mr. John O`Callaghan himself, ''get 10 different answers and 10 different approches'' to the meaning behind these manifestations.
Huge fan of The Maine and will forever continue to support them. Love all of the personal stories in this, and the ability to get to know each member a little intimately. It’s a beautiful story.
However, I do think the editing was poor (there was a page that had an entire duplicate - two of the same page in a row) and several typos. Just wish it was cleaned up a bit. Even I would have been willing to proof read!
DNF I read only about two pages of this book when i realized that this was just a book about a band trying to middle the encouragement of self motivation. Like it’s mostly just about the band then about actual self motivation which is what i was looking for dang it!!! I’m sure the actual book is fine but dont be misleading with your book just be real and say this is a book about a band and some motivational stuff instead of YOU ARE OK AND THIS IS NOTHING ABOUT A BAND !!!
I love learning about my favorite bands, especially The Maine. They're just so special, to me and just in general. This book gives such a powerful new look at what The Maine have been through both as a group and individually. I love how much the guys love their fans and appreciate us. And they don't just say it, they show it in all kinds of innovative ways. They care about their dream and they care about those of us who help them keep this beautiful thing alive because we all believe in it together.
