Dark and disturbing.
If you like troubling and twisted, this series is for you!
For me, not so much.
The author took on subjects that were bold and in your face difficult, but she executed the plot and characters perfectly! The emotions, writing and thought into this story deserve no less than a 5star and it certainly wouldn't be fair to diminish the work because I have issues with some of the content, that's on me.
This is an amazing start to a series and a must-read for those that are intrigued by difficult subjects.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow—what can I say! This dark and suspenseful romance is dirty, sexy and scintillating but astoundingly good! Mystery, danger, darkness, slavery, suspense, kidnapping, passion and sex that is off-the-chart hot, and intrigue that makes it very interesting and compelling to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating story. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat to find out what happened next. You NEED to READ! I wasn't expecting the turn this story took; it has quite an unexpected surprise that is jaw-dropping good! Charlotte Byrd manages to weave grippingly dark and twisted plots with artfully developed main characters. Charlotte did it with this dark romance by effortlessly transporting me to the turbulent and violent life of Easton Bay, Everly March, and King of York (Easton’s father who has insatiable desires). Everly was bored with her job. On a date with Jamie, she meets Easton (dangerous billionaire, handsome, ruthless, charismatic, demanding, and sexy), who warns her that she is in danger with her date. While in a taxi going home, she passes out. Everly wakes up the next day in a strange place. She realizes that she has been kidnapped because the door is locked, window does not open, and being told she was imprisoned at York Island. Everly will do anything to escape, but she must now rely on Easton, who is supposed to be her enemy, to survive and what a journey it is—what it became after so much time in captivity, what is the price of freedom, and then…. A surprise I didn’t see coming—this is so, so good. There are several surprises and plot twists and turns within the story that makes it interesting. This twisted, steamy and disturbing dark romance with gripping details, deep and troubled characters, and suspenseful story that will shock you and enthrall you leaving you gripping for more. This book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I didn't even know what this book was about, I just read it cause I'm trying to clean out my kindle. I hated this but I also think it's because I don't like reading about the tropes in this novel. The beginning was actually very interesting and led me to believe it was going to be a horror/thriller, I think if it was I would've enjoyed this more 😂 The rest of this book was just a heaping pile of messy and boring concepts that I did not care about so I skimmed a lot of this.

The DARK side of WEALTH and POWER and the beginning of an EPIC tale!
Author Charlotte Byrd has found the secret; a way to write about darkness which entices and envelops readers, compelling them to finish one of her novella’s without taking a break, a drink, or even a breath. She does so through her ability to introduce what a first seem to be common characters and then embroils them in circumstances so far from the experience of most romance readers that pages are consumed in the hopes that the characters they’ve come to care about, these rays of light, will somehow escape the darkness. Once again Byrd has presented TITILLATION so MASTERFULLY woven, no reader can resist its pull. The heroine, Everly, is a college graduate going nowhere fast, working a dead-end job she hates but needs, and is feeling hopelessly confined by the choices she has made. Less than 48 hours later she learns what being hopeless and confined really means . . . “HOUSE OF YORK” is dark and deals with issues and activities meant only for mature readers (Those 18+ or older only, please!) While obviously written to minimize triggers, the content is DARK, the suspense and tension within its pages are gut clenching, and choice is taken away; yet the allure of hope makes the story too enticing to ignore. So, readers read on and recognize that although aspects of the story are indeed cringe-worthy, the story is so well written, the protagonist characters, once identified, are so appealing and the plotline is so compelling they dare not stop until the last word is consumed. I voluntarily read an ARC copy of “HOUSE OF YORK” and this is my honest review. I STRONGLY recommend “HOUSE OF YORK” be the next purchase for those who like their romances to lean dark. Get your copy of “HOUSE OF YORK” today! Happy Pages! 😉

A compelling well written fascinating, dark romance with gripping details, and deep, troubled great characters that will shock and enthrall leaving you gripping for more. The romance is dirty, sexy and scintillating. It has mystery, danger, darkness, slavery, suspense, kidnapping, passion and sex that is off the charts hot, with intrigue that makes it very interesting. This twisted, steamy, disturbing, and suspenseful story has lots of action, intrigue, and is very entertaining, with several unexpected surprises, tests, alot of twists and turns, and a big cliffhanger.  It's a dark, dangerous, mysterious, frightening story, about a powerful man and his two sons, the oldest is just like his father, cruel, takes what he wants and women are for his use, and the second son who doesn't want anything to due with his father or what goes on at the island. In this multi story series you find Everly after being on a date and having the perfect evening with her date, Jamie who is handsome, and seems to be the perfect man. When she was approached by another handsome man Easton to run. Last she remembers she is getting in a cab. She wakes up the next morning, kidnapped and imprisoned in a strange place, locked in a room on the Island of York. She is told, she is in a competition to win the love of a man or else.  It iss to be the wife to the King of York but elimination has consequences. I was glued to the pages of this fascinating story can't wait for next in the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC.

Lavish Lies is about men who kidnapped women bring them to an island on York to compete for the love of a man. But first they are disciplined and trained to obey.
Everly was captured, kidnapped, and imprisoned in a luxurious home. Before she was kidnapped she worked at a job she hated making very little money to cover rent and bills. She wanted to become a writer eventhough she studied to become a psychologist. While waiting in her prison she longs for that boring job because at least she had her free will.

Every is an insecure gullible twenty-five year old living in Philadelphia. She worries about her weight, doesn’t like her body, and shies away from compliments. She meets a man named Jamie who takes her to a party where she’s taken to a remote location away from home.
The description about Lavish Lies is vague leaving out who the main characters are. Well I’m here to tell you that Everly is the main character. As for the mysterious male character it must be Easton as his name is the first mentioned in the opening prologue.

I found the beginning too far fetched. The way Everly met Jamie inviting her to a party for a first date wasn’t the transition I expected in this type of trope. The only indication regarding the type of story this is the reference about a prisoner and contestants in some game to win the love of this guy.
I’m not exactly sure what the concept of this book was trying to accomplish but I must say it didn’t progress quickly enough with all the minute details crowding the storyline. This was one of those on-the-nose narratives where every minute detail was included. These details didn’t advance the plot. In fact, I skimmed through all these tedious details.
This is supposed to be a dark romance but all I can do is laugh at the absurdity of these scenes. I’m quite familiar with dark exotic taboo story’s but this one is lacking. It’s missing that deep rooted fear a character should be faced with when put in this situation.
I knew from the beginning this book wasn’t going to score higher than a 1 star. The writing style is not dialogue driven and the storyline is mediocre. Here is what bothers me...”he starts to do unspeakable things to her.” Here is some advice: If you want to write a dark romance then you need to cross the line by writing all the painful elements of what Everly is faced with. I need to experience the fear and pain. That statement told me nothing except to insert my imagination. This isn’t the time to have a reader insert his or her imagination. How am I to believe how scared Everly is if the author can’t create the scene for me to visualize? There is no emotion behind these words. They are just words taken from the dictionary with no feelings to back them up. Here’s another example:”It’s a terrible, horrific place from which I yearn to escape.” Please Explain in better detail what makes it horrific and terrible aside from saying the words. I need to become engulfed and encapsulated by the characters fear in order to believe what is being written.
I did like the way Charlotte delivered the story in parts that was helpful.

WOW OMG this book kept me on the edge of my seat. not for the faint hearted.
Poor Everly March she is having the worse time, she is in a job she hates, answering phone calls in a icebox of an office. She feels like her life cant get any worse. then she meets the attractive Jamie at the café and feels her life is starting to look better. But things quickly spiral out of control. Whilst Jamie and Everly were at a charity fund raiser, a man called Easton tells her to run she is not safe with Jamie. Everly is confused but decideds to go home alone but once in the taxi she starts to feel strange.
Everly wakes up in a strange bedroom with what she can only thing of as a bad migraine. Her head feels like its going to explode. As she looks around the room she notices all the clothes and shoes are in her size. The bathroom is stocked with everything she would need. As she goes to investigate outside, she finds the door locked and the handle is just for show. Where is she? Was this Jamie's doing? Was Easton right? What was going to happen to her now??
OMG this is an amazing read that just leaves you wanting more. A Brilliant read I can tell this series is going to Wicked.

7,5/10

When you finally meet 'the one' you live happily ever after, right? WRONG. Everly meets handsome Jamie at a coffeehouse and they hit it off right away, but is he too good to be true? He must be because she ends up a prisoner in the Kingdom of York, which is more a kingdom of horrors than a fairy tale land. She has no idea where she is, how she got there, or why she was taken in the first place and the more she tries to find answers to those questions the more imprisoned she becomes. She quickly learns she can't trust anyone, and she can't even trust her own eyes because there are no rules in York except for the prisoners. When she meets Easton, the only person who appears to genuinely want to help her, she quickly learns that he may be prisoner himself instead of the saviour she hopes he is. So can Everly survive the perils of York or will she lose herself in the process? I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in Charlotte Byrd's new series House of York and I can't wait to read what happens next. She never fails to deliver a thrilling read that makes you crave more.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m flittering between a 2.5-3 stars for this one. I haven’t got a clue what I want to rate it because I haven’t got a clue if I even enjoyed it.

The thing about Charlotte’s books is that they are so dark and she deals with very taboo subjects. I have read some other books from her and felt weird about them also. I respect she has tackled some of the subjects she has but I can also find a lot of things wrong with them, most of all how she romanticises abuse of all kinds.

I can appreciate she has a good writing style and every book of hers I have been able to read in one sitting. The plotting and pacing is interesting and I always am curious to see what happens.

Possibly a big thing I have found in this book was that I found our main character annoying. I preferred Easton more than Everley and I wanted a better explanation of the competition than we got. Why was this happening? How can the King of York have so much power? Why do the other girls think this is something amazing?

I can’t say if I’ll pick up the second instalment or not. I need to sit on my thoughts for a bit first.

A história é boa, embora tenha pormenores que me incomodam. A saga é composta por 3 livros. E este primeiro podem obter gratuitamente na app Kobo.

EN: It's a disconcerting book, but I really enjoyed it. Evelyn is lured into an ambush during an encounter with a fascinating and good-looking stranger. The result is that she ends up kidnapped and held in captivity. As the plot progresses, we find out that she is going to suffer atrocities, but to survive she has to play the game. But it inevitably ends up getting involved by a man who lives in that prison and everything changes there. The story is good, although it has details that bother me. The saga consists of 3 books. And this first can get for free on the Kobo app.

Everly hates her job but feels like she has no choice if she wants a roof over her head. She meets Jamie in a coffeeshop during her lunch break. They feel a connection and he asks for a date. Then he invites her to a fundraiser ball where she meets Easton. He tries to warn her to run away but it’s too late. She wakes up locked in a room with no way out. She is on York Island. The King of York is looking for a new wife and Easton is his younger Son. The king is a CEO is the real world but he is in charge on his island. The competition is a version of the bachelor but elimination has consequences. You wonder about evil, greedy powerful people and how they can get away with everything and anything. Well written as is Charlotte’s standard. This is a continuing series so there is a cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next addition.

Amazing!

I love this book. You can't put it down. A great story developing. It is dark, seductive and a great love story developing for Everly and Easton. Easton tries to convince her to run from the party. Everly was kidnapped and taken to the island. She protects herself and thrown in the dungeon for it. She is doing everything to not lose hope. She sees Easton on the island. She don't trust him since she thinks he help kidnap her. When she relized the truth the connection that she was fighting with Easton starts. Will they connect and their love can grow? Will their love be strong enough to survive the king of york? Will their love be strong enough to demise the island of york? This is a must read. I cannot wait for the series to be complete. I will be reading House of York again.

WOW!!!... I have never read anything like this. This book was amazing, fascinating, enthralling. It is a horror, suspense, mystery thriller. Everly March is forced into a world she could never imagine in her worse nightmares. She has no one to turn to, no one can help her and no one is her friend. Easton York is a prince of York and secretly has tried to help Everly but she is not sure if she should believe him or not, have faith in him or not. He did save her from his cruel abusive brother Abbott. He did try to warn her from the very beginning. Now she has met the King of York and realizes that there is so much more at stake than she thought. An exciting read.
