Time has passed, and now Hunter is seventeen and preparing to graduate from high school. Jimmy is being released from prison, and Julie is excited for them to be a family once again. Traditions start to arise when Hunter meets Ava.
Julie believed that everything was going to be different once Jimmy got out of jail, but some traditions never die.
Personal Response: I found the book, Truth Comes Second, by Mason Fitzy very interesting. It is a little too creepy for my liking. I do not think I would read this book again. The plot is a little too much for me. I only recommend this book to people who can handle a lot of horror. Plot Summary: Hunter has just turned 17 years old. His father, Jimmy, is being released from jail after 16 years. He does not know much about what happens to his mother and he does not want to know. He meets a girl, Ava, at a party. They exchange numbers because they start to really like each other. When he asks her out on a date, Jimmy asks him to bring her to the house so they can get to know her. Jimmy traps both Ava and Hunter in the house. They refuse to follow the family’s traditions. Jimmy, Jared, and Taylor are considered the men of the house. They leave for the day. Ava takes this time to find a way to escape. She tries to steal the key from Leah, Jared’s wife. Shortly after this, the family takes them to a remote location. Julie begins to realize how terrible the family really is and decides to help Ava and Hunter escape. Ava, Julie, Hunter, Blair, and Leah all manage to escape by stealing the car keys at night. Characterization: One of the characters that change the most is Julie. She is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome at the beginning of the book. She now realizes how wrong everything that happens to her is. She helps Ava and Hunter escape, but in the first book, she has no intention of leaving. She does not see what Jimmy is doing as wrong in the beginning, now she actually fights back against him. Another character who changes a lot is Jimmy. He seems to be a good person in the first two books, but he becomes a really bad person. He tortures the people he cares about. Setting: It takes place on an old farm. This impacts the plot of the story because no one knows where to look for Ava and Hunter. It also makes it harder for everyone to escape because they do not know where they are or how to get back to where they came from. Recommendation: I recommend this book to people who do not mind horror. I find it a little too violent for my liking. I more than likely will not read this book again. It has some romance, but it has a lot of action. I would recommend it to both guys and girls. Due to all the horror, I do not recommend for kids 13 and under.
