Hard Curves: The Fantasy Art of Julie Bell

Rate this book
Coinciding with the much anticipated summer 2000 live action movie The X-Men, comes Titans, a collection of awe-inspiring original artwork created by husband and wife team Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell. Along with using a classic sense of style to create and master sensuous full color oil paintings, Boris Vallejo is best known as the visual creator of Conan the Barbarian. Combining strength with sensuality and infusing the human form with incredible power and motion, fantasy artist Julie Bell continues to use her "metal flesh" trademark to produce dramatic works of art. This collection overflows with superhuman characters captured in the act of saving the world, destroying evil protagonists and battling dark beasts. Featuring fantastic figures such as Spiderman, Captain America, and the X-Men, these paintings represent the best of Boris and Julie.

Julie Bell is Boris Vallejo's husband, and like him, is a fantasy artist and a bodybuilder. Her style is pretty much an exact copy of Vallejo's super-realistic heavily-muscled oil paintings. She is not as good as him - Vallejo sometimes achieves truly fantastic effects, while Bell is merely a life painter who puts her models in superhero costumes, but still, many of these paintings are really good.

I didn't know when I was a huge fan of both of these artists awhile ago they are actually MARRIED! Yowza! Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell; that's like some kinda fantasy tornado of talent...! Look out!!
I have always known Boris Vallejo best by his warrior paintings of Conan the Barbarian, and great 80's posters and movie marquees. "Combining strength with sensuality and infusing the human form with incredible power and motion, fantasy artist Julie Bell continues to use her "metal flesh" trademark to produce dramatic works of art." This is what can best describe my jam, Julie Bell. She has always done awesome and strong and inspiring warrior women, and similar ilk. Also see: superheroes - Spiderman, Captain America, X-Men. She actually LOOKS LIKE her women, so don't piss her off, that is HER ON THE COVER!!!

A wonderful art, a terrible text arrangement with parts of the sentence being spread pages apart.

My parents got art catalogs of various kinds and when I reached my early teens I became enthralled with erotic female art, especially fantasy. My dad showed me a small Olivia catalog and asked if this was what I liked and I said yes. Then I was shown Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell and fell in love. Julie Bell's eye and ability to paint metals makes her a unique gem.
