The biggest revelation from the Second Confession is Chris Watts’ story about taking his girls to CERVI 319 while they were still alive. Watts said it, the Rzucek lawyers repeated it on Dr. Phil along with the Rzuceks themselves. The Weld County District Attorney assigned to the Watts case has also signed off on this version. The media have since reported on this version as fact. Finally, social media has recycled this version as if it’s fact. Even a few credible YouTubers have commented on this aspect as if it’s reliable. The popular mythology surrounding this case – as it stands now – is that Watts killed the girls early on Monday morning at the Anadarko site. We know this because the source – Chris Watts – told us. ANNIHILATION reveals a terrifying counter narrative. Not only is the popular mythology wrong, but the truth is far worse, far more horrible and far stranger than we have dared contemplate.
A good read and a good way to analyze and rethink the case. I do appreciate Nick's point of view on things, although I think she was murdered in her bed while she was laying on her stomach halfway, probably on her stomach and side more so. He came into the room she started a conversation with her he slowly moved on to the bed and onto the back of her and she said what are you doing is going to hurt the baby and then he started talking to her she got mad about the conversation and he told him to get off of her conversation to think deeper darker turn and that is where the murder took place. But Nick always has a fresh way to look at things and has a very good mind for analyzing crime, so thank you!
The case of Chris Watts has been raked over the coals too many times at this point but if you still feel like reading about it van der Leek is a good one to plunder. He's really interested in this and I think he's just as flummoxed as the rest of us. He dives deep, splays the facts out before us and wrestles with them, trying to squeeze some golden truth out of it. Incidentally the author has cleaned up his writing style and is apparently a lot more scrupulous about typos. Much easier to read than older books.
I decided to do my research on this “author” and figured out that all he does is use grief to make profit. He has ZERO qualifications as ... well anything. He continues to claim that shannan was killed on the stairs, NO ONE, absolutely no evidence even remotely points to this as the location of her death, yet this idiot keeps up his useless tirade. I didn’t spend a cent on any of his books and would advice everyone to follow suit and abandon this money grubbing imbecile.
I'll admit, I was one of those people fooled by the second confession. I thought to myself, "This is worse than I thought; it must be true!" The more of these books I read, the more I believe Nick's view. From the questions Coder poses, I think he doubts Watts too. Watts is a chameleon and he will go where he is led, and will tell you what your itching ears want to hear.
Van Der Leek brings intricate analysis and perspective to one of our country’s most tragic crimes of this century. If you enjoy fact-based crime stories you will find this quite compelling.
