Lords of Happenstance #3

What the Dashing Duke Deserves

Rate this book
Nothing found in the sands of Egypt is as valuable as the treasure of the heart.

Crispin Herrick, the newly minted Duke of Litton is anxiously awaiting his first mission as a King’s agent. Until then, a dig in the King’s Valley he’s sponsoring occupies his time… until he chases down a criminal at the Antiquities Museum. Once he catches her, he’s shocked and delighted to discover she’s the same woman he flirted with in London a year ago, but now she’s as skilled in lying as she is in keeping secrets.

Miss Juliana Barrington lives under an assumed identity in Cairo, exiled there when her last mission for the Crown went catastrophically awry. All she wants is to redeem herself by finding a powerful relic before her enemies can, but when her path crosses that of the handsome ex-pawn broker, she can’t help but panic. No matter how her heart twinges, mixing desire with duty is a horrible idea.

Crispin and Juliana join forces to find the pieces of the Staff of the Gods, allegedly belonging to Moses himself. Danger dogs their footsteps while romance flickers to life as the days go by, and when the trail leads to a mysterious tomb in the Valley of the Kings, treasure hunting evolves into running for their lives. Staying ahead of disaster is critical; evildoers and death are powerful foes, but hard-fought victory might bring happy endings… if they can survive long enough.

Sandra Sookoo is a bestselling author who firmly believes every person deserves acceptance and a happy ending. Most days you can find her creating scandal and mischief in the Regency-era, serendipity and happenstance in Victorian America or snarky humor in the contemporary world. Reading romance is a lot like eating fine chocolates—you can’t just have one. Good thing books don’t have calories!

When she’s not wearing out computer keyboards, Sandra spends time with her real life Prince Charming in central Indiana where she’s been known to goof off and make moments count because the key to life is laughter. A Disney fan since the age of ten, when her soul gets bogged down and her imagination flags, a trip to Walt Disney World is in order. Nothing fuels her dreams more than the land of eternal happy endings, hope and love stories.

what the Dashing Duke deserves

I love this book. I enjoyed it so much it has taken me ages to read it. This is the third book of Lords of Happenstance. I Read the first two books and then it was the turn of this one.
It was based in Egypt and contained Lord Archewyne and his wife they were Kings Agents. Also we’re the Duke ofLitton and Miss Julianna Barrington. He Duke of Litton’s name was Crispin.
Crispin and Julianna bumped into each other at a museum , where at first he had no idea who she was but looking at her
Face on he realised that he knew her. She had a black wig on her head, where she was normally blonde and a load of makeup. He soon realised that this girl, he had dated a few times in London. Then he hadn’t seen her for ages. Not realising that she had gone to Egypt. At a time when they were friendly she admitted to him that she was a kings Agent and had come to work in Egypt for the King. He was also a kings Agent and their work brought them close together.
She had got into a lot of trouble and mixed with a number of
Men.
Eventually they fell in love and married. But the story getting
To this point was worrying and often frightening. This book
Will keep you thinking and the scrapes they get into are sometimes awful. I enjoyed reading it very much, and the story went from beginning to end. I would highly recommend reading this book.

Sandra does it again with another thrilling adventure and the heartbreaking story of Juliana. They both get a shock when they run into each other again in Egypt and a bigger shock when they realize they are both agents. Mile knew putting them together was what they both needed for different reasons. I loved every bit of the story they uncovered about Moses and the Staff. I didn’t see the reason the villain wanted it coming and was holding my breath for that whole part of the book.

Juliana and Crispin balance each other out perfectly when they need to. They never denied the passion between them. They were faced with many challenges and were both willing to die for the other. I loved the added magic to the ending and the gesture of Crispin’s with the file.

Juliana is a shattered woman that blames herself for a failed mission that hit close to home for many. She coped in the only ways she could and held everything in. My heart broke for her when she finally opened up completely. She had to learn that it wasn’t her fault and to believe in herself again.

Crispin wasn’t going to let Juliana blame herself or give up on herself. I loved how levelheaded he was until someone said the wrong thing about Juliana. He was willing to do whatever she needed to heal and feel again.

Miles grows a bit more with every book as the head of the agents.

Set in the regency period after George IV became king, the story is set in Egypt. I was fascinated by the in depth of knowledge of the pharaohs and their tombs. Ms Sookoo has done her homework when it comes to research for this novel.

The intrigue revolves around the three main characters, two men and a woman, and it’s not until the end that you are sure who the woman will choose. A Duke, a Lord and a Viscount’s daughter are all after the same treasure but lust and jealousy lead them astray. While reading this story I could feel the heat of the desert, the jealousy of Crispin and the uncertainty and low self esteem of Juliana. Andrew also has his part to play as he makes his bid for Juliana, but is the treasure more important than love?

This book is very well written and held me spellbound while I read it. The author has embraced her story and I not only enjoyed the romance, but learned quite a bit about the pharaohs time on earth.

Another wild adventure!

Crispin has just become a Duke after being a pawnbroker by trade. He is everything a hero should be: he’s handsome with a great sense of humor, and his intelligence is an asset for being one of the King’s agents. Juliana is beautiful and intelligence. Her knowledge of all that is Egypt is phenomenal. Ms. Sookoo has researched so well, that one feels as though they are in the pyramid and are on pins and needles when each of the traps go off and the cave ins happen. The characters leap from the pages as they work on their mission. Characters from the previous stories make the story even more interesting and intriguing. A wonderful story that completes the Lords of Happenstance. They are all stand alone stories, but best read in order. Five stars to this excellent epic!
