The Collectors #2

Touch of Wrath

Rate this book
They won't get away with this.

The last words I spoke before his casket was lowered into the ground have become a way of life. The Collectors stole too much from me, and I won't rest until vengeance is mine.

But plotting against an organization built on secrecy and coercion is more challenging than I anticipated. In order to make headway, unexpected alliances are formed, and existing relationships are tested.

With the Psych Squad by my side, I'm determined to follow through on my promise. But that kind of resolve doesn't come without a price.

Even as my feelings for Stowe, Noah, and Jameson grow, I continue putting their lives at risk.

And by the time I realize I'm in danger of losing myself, it might be too late to stop what I've set in motion.

My name is Adele Rose, and I know nothing but wrath.

**Touch of Wrath is the second book in a slow-burn reverse harem series.**

Ah yes- the 'teen' drama with RH touches continues!

So, plot happens, people run around trying to solve...something (?), romantic confusion ensues, a new sexy challenger approaches, Adele is still incredible, and Jameson is still a grumpy douche canoe.

this pretty much sums up the book for me:

“At least I know how you really feel about me.” With that, I spun and ran up the stairs. Once I made it to my bedroom, I turned the lock on the door and planted myself face-first on the bed. What. A. Day.

So the slow burn continued in this book. I’m pretty sure we have a new addition to Adele’s future harem as well, Mason. I thought this book would be more about Adele seeking revenge but really the girl is just grieving and reacting. The group invites her to move in at the mansion which is good because she needs the company. I didn’t feel like all that much happened in the book. I mean we have Jameson’s premonition about Stowe dying but not knowing when. We have Jameson surfacing to only 60% of the asshole he was in book one. While Adele wants revenge for all she lost, it’s someone else whose revenge takes place during the climax, this time a rogue Collector. I really liked mason and his dog, not sure if he can be trusted working with the Collectors as he does but time will tell.

Revenge. Adele has lost her home, her business, and her beloved father because of The Collectors. All because the organization wants to use her powers for their own desires. They have taken everything that mattered to her and she won't rest until she has vengeance. She can't do it alone and she can't risk the lives of her new friends. New allies must be made, old grudges set aside. As her feelings deepen for Stowe, Noah, and Jameson she realizes that she still has much to risk, but is it too late?

The Collectors series is one of my favorite paranormal RHs. It's so full of feeling. There is a simple elegance to Autumn Reed's writing that shines through on each page. There is a sweetness with Adele and her guys that is often missing from other books in this genre. The characters are genuine. This is a grief-filled book. Adele's grief is prominent but she is not the only one who is dealing with loss and betrayal. It makes their new connection feel more fragile and more valuable. Adele's character growth is handled nicely, her sorrow, her guilt, and anger, her attraction to the guys all resonates. The scenes between Adele and her guys were so emotion-filled. Stowe, Noah, and even Jameson are impressive. I don't want to give any spoilers but their actions and words were thoughtful, caring, funny, and absolutely swoon-worthy. This is vital in a slow burn RH. We are also introduced to a new character in this book. Mason is a bit of a wildcard; unexpected and possibly untrustworthy, but then he could be exactly what is needed. As I stated, wildcard.

The mystery throughout this book is wonderful. So much is unknown regarding The Collectors and their endgame. Adele's witch side adds yet another layer. There are several developing surprises to accompany the furthering of the relationships. It's a balanced, entertaining read.

Great book!

I really enjoyed the second book in this series! Adele Rose is an extremely likable heroine. The guys are amazing and much like Adele I can’t pick a favorite! I’m really intrigued with Mason and I can’t wait to find out more about him. Thank goodness the wait won’t be too long!

Ok, I am enjoying this series so much! With that, I also have no idea where it is going! lol.

Adel is besides herself in this book. The only thing on her mind is vengeance, but when presented with the opportunity at the end of the book, she decides she doesn't want to become that person. And when one of her own enemies helps her and Jem, Noah, Stowe, Jameson and new wild card - Mason out, I too find myself confused to what exactly the Collectors want with our girl.

The slow burn romance continues and we are still no where further along than before. Will Adele have to choose? And now with Mason in the mix, she has even more decisions to make! Is he even a contender?

Book two ends on an unexpected turn and even though I am quite enjoying this series, I really am not sure where it is going. How will Adele's Witch-side play into all of this? Will her and the guys EVER get together? lol. What do the Collectors really want? I am diving into book three now and cant wait to uncover more. I really am enjoying the writing and mysteriousness of it all.

*Overall 5/5
*Heat? 1/5
*Slowww burn
*First person POV (Adele Only)
*Ends on cliffhnger

Book two has heroine Adele wanting revenge for the events of book one (rightfully so), but everything is still super even-keel and mild in tone despite that motivation. The slow-burn romances continue growing slowly and the emotional growth has more of a disparity to the on-page time spent together than in book one but I still enjoy it and this author's writing, as I always do. I'm intrigued by Adele's different and growing powers and how that will all play out, and want to see more of the other Psych's powers in action too. Typical for me, my interest started to wane the way it does sooner or later when I try to "binge" same characters/series, so I will take a short break before coming back to read the next book(s).

Lovely!

The story is progressing nicely and ends on an episodic touch - there are still plenty of issues, including relationships that need some definition, but it’s a sweet close that makes you sigh. Decent story, Intriguing world building and fascinating characters.

Pros:
- Well written.
- Well edited.
- relationships are developing.
- I really, really like her talent.
- Family matters, even if it is not blood.

Cons:
- Felt a bit slow?

The emotional rollercoaster: part 2

In Touch of Wrath the plot picks up where the previous book left off. Adele is going through a difficult time while grieving and she shuts out her friends. Wrath consumes her thoughts and she is determined to have her revenge. When Jameson has another vision of one of her friends dying, they don't want to sit back and relax. Adele plans to take down the Collectors.

While trying to gather more information, Adele meets Mason, someone who can tell her more about the Collectors.

This book did not make me cry hysterically like the previous book did, but it still hits many emotions. Adele's grief is palpable and raw, her anger burns deeply. The relationships between her and the different male MC's is growing and we get the occasional sweet and heartwarming moments.

I can't wait to get my hands on Touch of Promise to see what direction Adele and the Psych Squad will take and what Mason's role will be.

Well I'm really enjoying this. I like how they have only just got together and how they are all accepting of it. I like the fact that characters are coming and going and we are still meeting new ones. We have a greater understanding off the characters without getting bored. I just wonder what will happen next.

I'm hooked on this series. The story continues where book 1 left off. More romance infused with the chaos of Adele's life. New characters while losing others in this dangerous and magical drama.
I look forward to reading the next book.

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off. Adele is mourning her dad’s death and supposedly this is a turning point for her character. However, she keeps making the same mistakes throughout the second book.

✅ self sacrificing
✅ unwilling to fully explore what could potentially be a huge power source (witchcraft).
✅ hung up on 3 (4?) dudes but feeling guilty over it.

I suppose the third one could be expected with a RH novel that doesn’t involve “mate” or “fated” connections, like so many novels in this genre do. Gotta admit, that trope makes getting over the hurdle of polyamory a lot easier. It’s just a “hey you guys cool with this? ✅ cool lets do it.” I can respect some struggle—a little, but it seems like at every turn, Adele is beating herself up over liking the guys, and they keep telling her they are fine with it.

The main conflict/action actually occupies about 5% of the pages. No joke. This is a lot of filler, a lot of Adele working through shit in her head, which might be cool if I liked Adele, but for some reason I find her insufferable. Is it her primness? Her lack of sense of humor (the author tells us through other characters that she is funny and awesome, but I am not reading her actually being funny or awesome). Also, Jameson is totally justified in getting pissed at her because, he’s right, everything is her fault. Why can’t she follow directions? Plan ahead? Be smart?

There are a lot of convenient plot devised used to add unnecessary drama. Adele should carry a smart phone. Everyone should communicate better, etc.

And I guess all of this boils down to me feeling like this series is written like a YA with adult themes. The characters are supposed to be 24-25, but I keep forgetting they are. They act / interact like teenagers. The romance is very slow burn, which usually i like, but in this novel it’s trying my patience...And the collectors just don’t seem very developed, conceptually as the main villains. They are mentioned at the beginning of the first book as a vague bogey man sort of entity, and are never really fleshed our as the “big bad.” Yeah, we know they are evil. Yeah they take psychics and make them do bad stuff. But what else? Chapters go by and they aren’t even mentioned. I found myself forgetting they were a part of the plot until oh, wait! There’s a super secret masquerade ball where Adele can show up with a pretty dress with no plan other than to, uh, meet collectors totally undisguised?

I was hoping Adele would burn everyone with anger this book, but apart from a few rage-y moments, nothing. What’s the point of having super powers if you can’t use them? There was so much potential for mental f*ckery—for her and squad to be a total ninja squad—but it’s like the author backpedalled from that in favor of mermaid paint night and walks through the arboretum. I am disappointed at the missed opportunities in this series and unfortunately just couldn’t connect with any of the characters.

Touch of Wrath picks up right where the previous book left off, with a Adele having just buried her father and Jameson having just had a vision of Stowe's death.

This is a slow burn RH in terms of steam. One that takes the time to let their character's feel. That includes grief over death and betrayal and the need to get revenge. One that has character's that are true to their experiences. These characters have had their lives turned upside down and they are learning to cope and adjust as best as they can now that the collectors have made them rethink everything they thought they new. Sometimes they make good decisions, other times, not so much, but it is all consistent with who they are. They don't become mastermind spies who can intrigue at the same level as people who have been doing it for years.

Adele learns a lot about herself over the course of this novel. More about her powers, more about who she is and what she is willing to do, more about what she wants and needs out of a relationship.

We get more of Jameson, Noah and Stowe. The latter stay consistent with who they have been to us before. Neither of them are big on hiding their feelings. With Jameson we get a lot of whiplash an tension with Adele that displays their chemistry even while they banter and name call. At the same time there are moments like at the end of the previous book where you see the man behind the protective walls.

Jem is not as big of a onscreen player in this book, but we do get introduced to a new character that is very interesting and I look forward to see more of them.

This is not a fast paced novel as it take the time to explore all the things I mentioned above, but it was high entertaining and I look forward to the next one.

Revenge is all that Adele can think of. With loosing her home, business and her loving father. All because of the organization called the Collectors. All she has lost because they are conniving people who want to use her powers and they will stop at nothing to get what they want. So she will not rest until she gets her revenge. She will need help along the way, luckily she has met some new friends. Friends that are just like her with abilities. They are becoming her family. And together they will work to take down the Collectors.

I am really enjoying this series. How interesting is it to be able to see and feel things just by touching an object or person? Sometimes that would be a curse, sometimes that could be very helpful. Ms. Reed does an excellent job of creating the main character, Adele. She goes through so much, it's so satisfying to watch a character come into their own. Her growth is handled perfectly. With her sorrow, guilt, sense of humor, her attraction to the guys, and her anger. She has so much anger. The guys are all perfect for her, each has different personalities that are just right for what she needs. Even Jameson, the big brat he can be is so sweet in this book. This is a slow burn rh romance that fits the pace of the story, especially with all that she has had to lose. The pace is quick and on point. With just the right amount of action, mystery, romance pace, and maybe a surprise or two.

More bread crumbs to follow

We get more information in this book about Adele and The Collectors, but we also get a slew of questions left over.

Meanwhile things are heating up with Adele, Noah, Stowe, and yes even Jameson. Which I’m kind of excited for. I also sort of understand why he was mr. grumpy with her. That makes sense too.

But then we get a new guy in the picture, Mason, and idk if I trust him or not. The preview into the next book with his POV doesn’t make me think of him well yet, except for the fact he hates the collective, which I think is a good thing. I like him. He’s cocky, but smooth, and witty. I think he will compliment Adele but I wish they all would explain why they all are so into her. I still don’t see it, maybe I haven’t had them share enough softness or moments with each other aside from kissing, but I’m still unclear on to why all the guys are into her. Like what’s connected everyone. Stowe seems love at first sight, and it was a bit jarring tbh, unless something pops up saying there’s a mate bond thing for witches or something then I’ll be able to let it pass.

Adele and the mysteries keep mounting, Trevor is kidnapped! Adele uses a new to her ability and somehow knows how to grab other memories in addition to the one she was seeing, with no training, and no one helping or guiding her. And she took so much all of Trevors memories with her...but here’s the thing, everyone else is going to remember Trevor’s time with Adele, she’s not the brightest if she thinks wiping Trevors memory is going to keep him safe or from remembering her. He kept talking about how the other firefighters missed her and such. Like yeesh if this doesn’t get rectified in book 3 that’s going to be a big giant plot hole.

I wonder if the person pulling the strings is someone Adele knows, or not, the cynical part of me thinks it’s someone in the group, but I don’t believe it’ll go that way.

I’m definitely going to read the next one.

So we continue after that devastating turn in book 1 and now Adele is heck bent on exacting revenge on the Collectors.
I'm really loving the audiobook all the more as the narrator has done such an amazing work.

The pysche squad is as admirable as always except the grouchy Jameson. But this time we see him share a secret of a vision with adele, although reluctantly, that puts fear in adele for what's in store in the future for one of the men.

Stowe & Noah just keep on earning brownie points in my eyes and I absolutely adored them. Honestly it is indeed a difficult choice for Adele to choose from when the men all are such amazing and beautiful in nature and caring humans.

But we have a surprising new contender now in Adele's life, Mason Montgomery. He's charming, he's rich but he also is from the enemy clan... Woah and he has an interesting offer for adele but will she agree to it or not?

I really liked Mason's character as he's charming but doesn't come across as arrogant at all and doesn't flaunt his wealth but becomes the perfect new friend to Adele.

There were certain revelations that truly shocked me towards the end and I didn't know what to think of it.
Also, we get to see Adele meeting her 'witchy' Great-aunt and we get to see Adele adapt and explore her powers and witchy side.

I have to say one thing though, for this series so far being a "clean" one when I'm used to reading mostly spice on high books yet I'm absolutely enjoying this ride.

The chemistry is great but truly the men are such gems.. Ahhh... They make me smile and melt just with all the little things they do for Adele.

Oohhh... We are definitely in for some surprises, I can feel that in the upcoming books. Can't wait to dive into the next one. ❤️❤️

Interesting but still grossly underwhelming. Our FMC is trying to figure out a plan moving forward after the Collectors are miffed she a) refused to join them and b) ignored their offers So, they burned down her antique store and her home wherein her father (a firefighter) also perished.

She is asked to move into the mansion with the others (the 3 guys and 1 girl who is a sister to one of the men). In a short span of time she's exchanged kisses with each of the guys. And Gem seems to be encouraging it all. She met with Grace of the Collectors.... she's "in love" with all three of them. The fact the girl, Gem, was apparently taken against her will and was used to bait our FMC to some abandoned warehouse.

The triple date with the guys... just... gives me the ick.

She finds out she's a witch. She meets with her aunt who teaches her a spell using crystals... just... ooooooooooookay. So much happened but nothing did.

Everyone has nicknames for her but it's not even endearing.

She's working for some enigmatic man who also works with the Collectors. She stole all her ex-boyfriends memories of her so he would quit hoping they'd get back together.

The first book was quite the hook, but after this one, I'm just not interested in anything else this series has to offer.

It hate love triangles. This is a love love square which is so much worse. Usually with a love triangle the decision is hard and both boys...or girls hate each other. There is usually a clear line with who the person really likes though. This one is just ridiculous. She doesn’t know which guy she likes, but all 3 guys are okay with her dating and kissing their best friends. They all go on a date together and I just think...this is absolutely the stupidest thing I have ever read. Besides the love...square I still enjoyed the rest of the story. I honestly wish there was no romance at all.

One thing I thought was interesting was there was no cliffhanger like with the first book. I was so eager to read the second book because of the way it ended in the first book. The resolution from the first book was slightly anticlimactic.

So this is the second installment of the Collectors series.

I don't mind these books. The cover, title and synopsis did its job with the first book and drew me in enough t want to read it. I enjoyed the first book enough to make me want to read the second book.

On reading the second book I wasn't massively disappointed but I found it quite boring unfortunately. I like the characters in the book they are distinguishable and likable. Yes, even Mr. Hot and Frowny. However it didn't seem to go anywhere.

The place of these books is VERY slow, I mean incredibly slow. The romance is slow, as is the story.

The books do just enough to make you read the next book. I wouldn't if I was buying the books myself, but as they are in kindle unlimited I'm not opposed to reading the next one.

Well, that was rough.
First of all, the writing style depleted into an emulation of lesser authors that use gerunds to start almost every sentence.

Knowing she can write better than this made it all the more frustrating.

The main character was very whiny, and not for any of the valid reasons she has to whine about.

The dates and outings they went on were lame and their interactions were unrealistic, forced, and cringy.
I don’t think the author knows what people their characters’ age act like at all.
I pinpoint the year she was their age to be around 2005.

It only kinda gets better around 80%, but it’s too little too late at that point.

Really struggled to get through this one.
Will not be continuing the series.

Great addition to the first!

Likes:

Stowe and Noah. LOVE them. So hot and so sweet.
Jem, whom we didn't see a lot of, but loved the parts she was in.
Mason - an interesting development is brewing

Dislikes:

Jameson - Seriously, the man drives me nuts!

Ok, he's doesn't really count as a dislike. I just don't like him. LOL.

I do wish we had seen more Jem but this book seems a lot more relationship building with the guys and setting the scene, filling in the missing info. It was almost to slow of a pace for me but the author is good at drawing you in and captivating you with the story she weaves. I can't wait for book 3!

This story is so good. You'll love it to pieces as I did. It still is about Adele getting her powers as they are developing. Also I like to see how the relationships develop in this book. It's so natural and real. I read this book in one sitting. I like the way Adele is with her guys. So sweet and genuine. It is a slow burn so it takes time for development but it is done in an amazing way that it's so good you want more. The plot is good and I like the twists in the story. I will not be spoiling it because you really need to read it.

It Just Gets Better!

Wow do we learn a lot in this 2nd book, but I still have questions that need to be answered lol! I loved book 2, couldn't put it down. Adele is starting to see how strong she is & trying to learn about her witchy side. There were some unexpected twist & turns that left me saying "How" "Why"! One thing I'm happy about is her relationship, it's starting to grow and they truly know her which is amazing. My love for Jameson is real lol. He can be difficult but we finally get what we wanted almost at the end! Can't wait for the next book!!!

For one thing that happens, so much of Adele’s inner thought follows. A whole lot of words, but in the end you realize not a lot even happened. Adele is not really likable to me. As with the first book, characters take convenient exits to not have to be worked into the plot. Jem just dips out this entire book. She stays away from the group, comes back for a whole minute, then has some secret mission that literally does nothing for the plot. It just drops off. The characters still have no growth, despite being in their mid 20’s, they are more like 9th graders.

I really wanted to like these books, but sadly, it just isn't keeping my interest.
Neither the characters nor the plot really stood out. There was nothing that I specifically disliked, but there simply wasn't enough depth or anything particularly unique about the story to ever get me fully invested. I like the characters well enough, but I wish the author had taken more time to let the characters get to know one another before they "fell" for each other.
The mystery was also lack-luster.
So, I think this is where I'm stopping this story.

What a spectacular second book!

Autumn continues to wrap us up in all the feels (yes, there is more than just wrath) as she continues Adele's story.  She has us falling for all the guys and then some while keeping us guessing as to who is on what side and what is coming next.  There is more story left and some unanswered questions that have me avidly awaiting the next book in this tale!
