Syed Hasanuddin Ahmed holds a PhD. degree from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. After getting his Master's degree, he joined the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS). In course of his long career in the IAS, he served in various prominent positions with distinction such as Director, Religious Affairs Department in the erstwhile state of Hyderabad, Agent to and Deputy Secretary, Government of India, in-charge of minority affairs and awqaf. The author besides being an administrator, is also a prolific writer with varied interests which range from language and literature to religious studies and nature cure. Many of his books have been translated in other Indian languages. His work on urdu word count was widely acclaimed in literary circles. He has received several awards and honours for his works. After retirement from the administrative service, he served as chairman, Andhra Pradesh Minorities Commission. He lives in Hyderabad, India and is engaged in social and cultural acitivites including intellectual and literary pursuits.
