This book is utterly disgusting. From the excessive use of "target" to the BS "relationship" suggestions. The book encourages you to manipulate your "target" in order to get what you want. It glosses over any ethics and tries to pretend that both the manipulator and target can get "what they want". The strongest case it made for both parties winning is a manipulative car salesman - pushing you to a "better" car. The seller wins because they got a larger commission. The buyer "wins" because they have the pleasure of spending more money on a car for crap they don't need or want. Add to the negatives of the subject matter, the book is quite poorly written and repetitive. It often uses a handful of phrases 5 or 6 times in a page.

The ONLY potentially redeeming qualities of this book: 1) Deborah Weiss should be avoided at all costs and 2) victims of manipulation might learn a bit about how other people are using them.

Apparently manipulation is not only a negative term. I'm not sure what my take-away is from this book -- I suppose by going over the different mechanisms one can more easily identify it when you are on the receiving end, or you may be able to use it to steer people more toward things they ought to do anyhow? mehh
