Once Upon a Daddy #1

Daddy's Best Friend

Rate this book
This is a really bad idea...

She just showed up on my doorstep.
My best friend's daughter.
The girl I remember is all grown up,
But she's still a brat.

A place to stay?
I'll give her that and a whole lot more.
She needs a firm hand,
And a little bit of discipline.

Or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to put my hands on those gorgeous curves...

She can whisper all of her secrets into my ear.
But I don't think I'm going to be able to let her go.
My best friend might have been her father...
But she's never had a Daddy.

---

Are you ready to meet Greyson Foster? He's rich, successful, hot-as-sin and British. -- The kind of man you want to call Daddy.

Kelli's Note: Each book in the "Once Upon a Daddy" series is a full-length standalone romance novel. Leave your panties at the door. You won't need them when Daddy gets home because you're going to want to be a bad, bad girl...

First, I like reading about Daddy kink, second, I don't mind age difference and third I like a good spanking scene.
Considered all this I wasn't drawn to this book. The blurb seems interesting but the whole book was a bit boring. She comes to live with him, he is all perfect and rich and all and then he is spanking her all the time. There is no chemistry, no real story and their relationship is nonexistent. Their flirting is just boring with no suspense. The spanking and her brattiness was not cute at all...It was repeating all over and the writing was rushed and plain.
So I guess it is a bit tame for me, but for someone who likes some sweet daddy kink, go for it.

There’s a definite kink in ‘Daddy’s Best Friend’—the Daddy/Dom/BDSM type—that, in the blurb and the title, should be enough of a warning for those who can’t stomach the older man-younger-woman sort of romance with a bit of a different flavour.

A bit of an age difference doesn’t bother me much really, as long as we’re talking about the legal age of consent…well, that and the quality of the writing. Kelli Callahan tackles Chrissy’s and Greyson’s back story with a bit more context thrown in, which meant that their sexual relationship started small and somewhat tentative, until it became a full-blown exploration of the Daddy-dynamic from the quarter-mark.

Kink and fetish aside, I realised that I wanted to read that their relationship was more than just Chrissy working out a daddy-issue or her needing him to be her spanky-panky-disciplinarian daddy (which would ultimately be wrong and incestuous in so many ways) and that a romance between 2 equals could legitimately grow out of this and not just stay in the iffy-icky part of arse-blistering. The transition wasn’t as marked or as convincing as I’d hoped, which ended up with more cringeworthy than I’d expected, as did the insane number of times the word ‘SMACK!’ appeared in the entire story when I was certain there had to be better ways to describe every action of that brought palm to arse.

I really enjoyed this book. Chrissy and Greyson's story was a lot of fun to read. It was well written and the relationship these two had made for a great storyline. I recommend it to everyone that enjoys a older man younger woman storyline.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked it but it was also a bit confusing and weird. I'm referring to their relationship. I'm glad it wasn't only me but they were also seeing the blurred lines. It was a weird mix of daddy issues and lust and love. For a while they didn't know what they were/wanted exactly. And it frustrated me a little. Thankfully they figured it out in the end. Because the initial passion and sexual tension were sorely missing for a while. They finally found their passion again after the "date". And it was really beautiful. Not perfect, but still good. I'm still not sure about the rating. 3 stars? 3.5? Somewhere in between? 3.25 stars?

“You’re going to stay with me and focus on school.” He narrowed his eyes. “This isn’t up for discussion, so don’t even try. I know you want to make it on your own, and you will, but you’re my responsibility until then.”

After getting a full scholarship that didn’t include room and board, Chrissy gets invited to live with her father’s best friend. Her dad died when she was little, so she lacked that sort of parental guidance. Not to mention she always felt less than and a little ignored. But don’t worry, because her new roommate Greyson will change that. But she’s his dead best friend’s daughter…and he has to respect that boundary. Unfortunately for Greyson, he has to tempt fate and become more controlling. This was a different kind of daddy than I was expecting. This is very much a father figure. And it was kinda icky at times. Mostly because she was so immature and naive. Which bums me out because when we were first introduced to Greyson, I giggled and I thought I was in trouble. But it was mostly disappointment. I was a bit confused by the end. I just can’t understand why the adult had to grovel, when he did nothing wrong but have an appropriate response to a real serious situation. I know the rest of the series exists, so maybe I’ll revisit it again another time.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “Turn around and take your punishment like a good girl.”
• “I could make it hurt if I wanted to.”
• “You’d have to pull my panties down for that, wouldn’t you.”
• ‘She’s not a good girl at all. There’s a she-devil hiding behind those curves.’
• “You know what you’re going to get-and you know the position.”
• “I would have been glad to apologize with something besides words.”
• “Oh, you little tease. You’re mine now.”
• “I want to look into your eyes and tell you that you’re beautiful-that you’re a woman-the only one for me.”

I was unsure if I would enjoy this book, but decided to give it a try as I generally like books by this author. The main female lead has a bit of hero worship for a flawed father she never knew. The main make lead feels obligated to take care of his mentor's daughter due to a promise made before he died. They start an interesting journey down a forbidden path, with some twists that I didn't see coming.

I honestly don't know if I would had read this book without the opportunity to read an ARC, but the opinion expressed in this review is my own.

I liked the slow-burn part of the story, but there was a point where I was skipping paragraphs to get to something interesting.
And there was only one sex scene, which was at the very END of the book!!!!😤😵😥

This is the first book I have read by this author to dissapoint me. At least I know her writing style and plots are more well-developed now.

A little too much Daddy-ness for me, but what was I expecting with a series like "Once Upon a Daddy"

It's a cute story though :)

Sexy and fun!

Great story with lust, emotional rollercoasters and some blackmail for excitement. Loved the characters and how they came together despite the awkward beginning of their start up.

This was a good read. It is an older man/younger woman romance with some light BDSM and a hint of Daddy kink. The chemistry between Chrissy and Greyson was smoky. There is a touch of drama in the book but mostly it just focuses on the characters relationship. The heat level was only moderate in my opinion, so if you are looking for something scorching, you will be sadly disappointed. The characters were OK but I never worked up much of an emotional connection to either of them. My single biggest pet peeve with this book was how often the word, "Smack" was used. Yes, there are multiple scenes spankings in this book but I got really sick of this word. This is my candid, voluntary review.

“It’s going to sting- and then it’s going to hurt. Because that’s what bad girls get.” - Daddy’s Best Friend by Kelli Callahan

Before Chrissy’s father died, he made his best friend Greyson promise to take care of his family after he was gone. Though he hasn’t seen her in years, Greyson agrees to share his home so she can start her first year of college nearby. But the longer the two spend time together, the more naughty things get until they realize that Chrissy doesn’t just need punishments for breaking the rules: she needs a Daddy.

Grab the aloe vera and be prepared for a whirlwind of spanks because “Daddy’s Best Friend” isn’t afraid to punish our heroine for being a bad girl. Our latest age gap entry kicks the daddy kink into high gear that will have you itching to break a few rules to get a fitting (and blistering) punishment from our strict Daddy.

Torn between his lust for Chrissy and the memory of his best friend who died due to his own vices, Greyson is a man who loves control, which makes our bratty heroine the perfect one to push his buttons. However, when push comes to shove, our leading man knows how to leave some memorable marks on each eager cheek.

Chrissy may seem like a good girl on the outside, but she is anything but. Eager to do the bad thing for the right punishment, she is a character who longs for something to complete her, which she finds in her deceased father’s best friend. Though readers may not feel drawn in by her or Greyson, their dynamic was fun and a nice breather.

The smut spends much time building up for the finale at the end, so best be patient for the spicy cherry on top. The dirty talk was a bit stale, but if you love grumpy Daddy roleplay, then prepare to feast with “Daddy’s Best Friend”.

Final Smut Archive assessment: Hope red is your favorite color because that’s the shade your booty's gonna be after Daddy’s punishment.

Mixed review (some mild plot spoilers)

This book wasn’t all bad so I don’t mean this to be completely negative. For me, the most honest reviews are the ones that help me the most when deciding what books I’m going to spend my valuable time on. Romance is my guilty pleasure and when my fellow readers give it to me straight I appreciated it so much, so here it goes...

It started off good, but the writing became more basic and rushed as it went along. I didn’t feel a connection to the characters, there wasn’t much chemistry between them, and the sex was meh. (Ok, that was harsh. It just had some unrealized potential.) So much emphasis put on lines being drawn that it took away from the fluidity of the story. The protagonist was a good effort and could have been an opportunity to show that Chrissy, in addition to her growth, was still a middle class badass from Chicago, but fell a little flat there. Growing as a woman also means realizing you don’t need a man to be proud of your actions. Being proud of yourself is what really matters.

Not to get on a tangent, but changing her name turned me off and took away from the supposed maturation of the character. While a name says a lot about someone’s identity, it doesn’t define them. A strong confident woman, no matter the age, doesn’t have to change what people call her to be taken seriously. If anything, having a name that is a little different will set you apart. She’s not a different person, just an improved version of herself.

Typos and a lot of unnecessary “later that day” should have been caught by an Editor too. I love romance and this was a good effort by the author so I won’t completely scrap reading her again. I have a feeling one of her earlier efforts will be better and I’m looking forward to it.

Domestic discipline is my thing, so "Daddy's Best Friend" had me at "¡Bueno!", and yes, I did enjoy this book and would definitely recommend it to others of my proclivities.

The story reads like a "Mary Sue" wish fulfillment, with all the good and bad that entails. The good: it's good. It's arousing. It's got that 'hanky panky daddy give me spanky' a girl like me needs. Oh yes, those parts are very good.

Problems: there were elements where the wish fulfillment took over from what I know to be reality. Yes, it's fiction so as a reader one of must always be prepared for the willing suspension of disbelief. That I can and did do, but the cumulative effect tends to take one out of the story, and why it ends up counting overall as a bad. I'm not going to nitpick on this too-too much, but if Chrissy can't afford a dorm room, I can tell you she's not going to be able to afford rent an apartment in downtown L.A. on a part-time job, nor is she going to be able to afford to pay parking costs to drive her Daddy's Porsche to campus, let alone actually find an open parking space once she gets there. And as for Greyson: yeah, that house is nice, but the "MTV Cribs" level conspicuous consumption of L.A. real estate amenities wouldn't necessarily appeal to single, serious and ambitious man unless he factored it in as part of the expense of maintaining his brand. Since our hero isn't entertaining clients or even using those facilities much himself, he probably wouldn't be paying the few extra millions to have them.

Anyway, nitpicky. It was an irritant while reading and pulled me out of the narrative. But overall, still a plenty enjoyable read, and I'd be more than willing to check out this author's further creative output.

When my mom said my dad's friend Grayson was going to let me stay with him while I went to college.I hoped to find a job an get an apartment. When a car picked me up a man holding a sign with my name he said Grayson was at work and wanted me to get settled he's be home for dinner.Th house was a mansion. When I was taken to my room it had a huge bathroom with a big tub with jets and a large shower. The bed must be a California king.my walk in closet our house would have fit in it.When Grayson came home he asked if I was settled and called for dinner. He took me on a tour of the house the library had so many books I don't think I could have read them all.it has an indoor heated pool a Jacuzzi an a outdoor pool unheated a theatre room .wow.But the most appealing think was the gorgeous man in front of me.Grayson couldn't believe that the young lady in front of him was the little girl he remembered .She was a child when her father my friend let his demons take him.The naughty girl wanted to be spanked by this big alpha man.She also had fantasy about him. Will Grayson decide she was what he wants .?Will they get their happy ever after? There are so many twists and turns as this older man younger woman figure things out.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

Ms. Kelli Callahan always impresses with her talent, however, the creation of her latest release, Daddy's Best Friend, has a starting storyline that is so much more then an older man/younger woman romance. Inside this impressive release is a beautifully designed love story, yes, however, there is so much personal growth for Christina, aka Chrissy, it is wonderful to read. Although her caregiver, Greyson, certainly grew as well, although in much different ways.

I'm a fan of Kelli's and I can honestly say that I was surprised by the impact this release had on me. At some point in this book, I realized that I stopped thinking of her as a teenager, but more of his perfectly matched equal. This, to me, is just a bonus to the talent displayed by Ms. Callahan.

Bottom line for me, was that Daddy's Best Friend is a romance full of self discovery and it certainly kept me riveted all the way through. I definitely recommend this publication to romance fans everywhere. I hope that you will love it as much as I have. Once Greyson accepts that he is not keeping a promise to an old friend, rather building a future with a strong woman, this book takes off running. I was completely addicted as well as extremly fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for my honest & voluntarily given opinion and I highly recommend reading this book as well as anything written by Ms. Callahan.

Somewhat misleading title but ….

Yes, Greyson is/was Chrissy’s father’s best friend, but that fact established a reason for Chrissy to stay at his house and then became secondary to the establishment of their relationship. The changes and growth for both Greyson and Chrissy were clearly stated and sometimes implied with the dual POV providing insight into their individual thoughts and struggles. Initially I was somewhat put off by the emphasis on spanking, but realized its importance as I continued to read. Well before the end, I was rooting for the couple and was sorry when the story ended.

This is the first book by this author that I have read, and it certainly won’t be the last. It is certainly an age gap romance but not a “sweet” one. I wouldn’t describe the book as erotic as other books and authors I have read that are more explicitly erotic. That said, this book is erotic in a beautifully understated way. It is more powerful because of the author’s restraint in describing the physical, sexual scenes.

One star is deducted because of minor editing errors and because the spanking remained a bit uncomfortable for me personally. It is not a trigger though it may be for some readers; it is just not something I enjoy reading about. The entirety of the story overcomes my discomfort in my appreciation of the whole.

Definitely recommended to those who enjoy an age gap romance with depth and character development.

Oh WOW there is something about this book that just had me hooked. I couldnt put it down. I couldnt answer the ringing phone or texts messages because that meant I had to stop read for a minute. Its a wonderful read that just makes me want to start reading it again and again.
Chrissy is starting college. Thankfully she had a scholarship so paying for college wasn't a problem. Her father died when she was very young and her mother did her best, she was a very proud woman. So when Chrissy didnt get board with her scholarship, her mother had to ask for help from an old friend of Chrissy's dad. Well his best friend and Greyson was happy to help.
What would happen when these two got to know each other?
I really don't want to give anything away but this book is amazing. The letters just melt my heart to read such honesty and raw emotions, that was the biggest turning points for me. The characters are awesome that had me laughing and smiling and even sad at times. I honestly think age is just a number and who gives people the right to judge. Follow you heart! AND I'm so happy with ending. Smashed it This is just a fantastic read.

Cassie managed to get a scholarship to her father's college however its doesn't included room and board. Her mother reaches out to Greyson a man her father took under his wing at work and asked him for help. Greyson agrees for her to stay with him but he definitely wasn't expecting the gorgeous young woman before him. He gives her some rules no one in the house but her, no parties in the house and she can't be out late. Also she can drive one of his cars but no texting and driving. One her first day she broke one of his rules and he takes the car away and smacks her bottom. Cassie decides to come clean about what type of girl she really is and then Greyson needs to keep a firmer hand on her. Cassie needs someone to be firm and take her under control somewhat. This makes it difficult for him not to give into temptation with Cassie. Soon they are together and its what they both want however someone wants to expose them for money. What will Greyson do? Will they still be together?

This is a great story that will draw you in from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.

Where to start with this book? I had high hopes for this story. It seemed great from the blurb...but then it kinda crashed and burned.

First off it started very suddenly. There was no gradually easing into the story. In the beginning I felt like there was a lot of angst and chemistry going on but then it just stops. And that is when the book goes down hill.

Chrissy acts like a spoiled brat which was a turn off for me. I couldn’t handle it. This book was made up entirely of her bratty actions and then spanking sessions. And the spanking sessions weren’t even that hot. I felt like the author started off really strong with this book, but then lost it in the middle. When you add in the ending I was just like ugh. By the time I was around page 130 I was over this book and ready for it to be done.

I’m really into kink age gap books right now and thought this one would be good, but I was wrong. I don’t usually advise people not to read books because everyone is different and I usually like books others hate. But this one you could probably skip.

I’m open to try one more in the series and hopefully it’s not as bad. #bitterlydisappointed

Good because it doesn't stop at a carnal relationship
I liked this book because it does not only relate a relationship between two people who have a large age difference, but because there is also all the questioning by which they go through, and in particular, that of the hero, Greyson, who does not want to "kill" the future Chrissy could have when he hosts her to help her family. On the one hand, she needs structure for her studies so as not to be overwhelmed by her young adult life, but on the other hand, she need to live this young adult life, with her experiences whether they are good or not. At the same time, Chrissy does not necessarily know where she is in her life, what she wants and she is looking for her bearings with this paternal figure she did not have.
There is still a little unhealthy side in the name "daddy", and a infantilization of Chrissy by Greyson, which seems to me strongly pushed sometimes. In the end, without being in the trash BDSM, we still have BDSM scenes mixed with romance.

Another great story by Kelli Callahan.
To me this is a story about a young woman finding her path and the older man that helped show her the way. Chrissy lost her father when she was young. Her mother was there but seemed to be dealing with her own issues to be more of a guiding force to her. Chrissy is now off to college. Due to circumstances she is staying, at least for now, with Greyson, a very handsome friend of the family. Greyson not only provides her with a place to stay but with structure that Chrissy hasn't really had before. There's also the underlying attraction they both feel. Chrissy wants Greyson to be a firm hand when she needs it but also more. If Greyson can get past his reservations and also see her as the woman he's falling for the HEA is their's for the taking. Great story. Age gap romance. Light Daddy dom. Oh, and an interesting blackmail plot twist.

★ Hanging onto his honor ★

—>>> Review Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars - Chrissy’s mother pulls some strings with a family best friend so that she may have a mentor as well as secure room and board while attending her freshman year at college. Greyson is only happy to help out, but he feels torn about the intense and instant attraction he has for Chrissy. However, she is a young and immature eighteen year old, and we do see her slowly mature from brat to someone who owns up to past mistakes and accepts responsibility. Although she does seem to exhibit a lot of attention-seeking behavior at first, Greyson takes Chrissy to task and disciplines her via his own methods. Trying to adjust to campus life and new friends lends new experiences, some which will test Chrissy’s boundaries further but may just cost her much more than a spanking or being with Greyson. A nice slow-burn romance!

The story is more a coming of age, of maturity, of loving someone regardless of age, etc., than a "Daddy" story. Although there are "daddy" moments in terms of discipline and rules, once the relationship moves forward, it becomes more about two adults. The focus of this novel is more on the development side, and emotional building blocks than sexual, which again leads it away from your typical "daddy'" storylines that are out there currently. If you are looking more for the kinkiness involved in many of the 'daddy' stories this book is not that, my guess it fell into Amazon's erotica guideline because of the age difference. There are sexual scenes, well written and mature, just very few and near the very end which in this case does not take away from the story because as I mentioned you got to "watch" their transitions.

Our heroine is staying at her father's best friend's house to save on college expenses, but neither counted on the strong chemistry they would have together.

This is a erotic romance story with elements of D/S and spankings. The story is well written and easy to follow, with a good backstory that sets the stage for why our characters are here. The characters are good as well, but take a little bit to get used to. Our heroine starts as something of a brat and our hero comes off as a rich guy with more money then sense. But they both change and mature as the story progresses, which really made the difference for me. We are also treated to multiple steamy scenes, which was like icing on the cake. Overall, a very enjoyable read.

Highly recommended.

Good standalone

I’ve read a few of this authors books and I’ve liked them all. They all have revolved around some aspects of BDSM but they all have their own creative storyline and it never felt like a “cookie cutter” type of story. This story has heavy Daddy elements with plenty of spankings. This isn’t age play type of BDSM, just an authoritative figure with a firm hand for his young charge. I enjoyed Christina as a character once I got past some of her immaturity mainly because she was able to realize what she needed in her life to be successful. Her revelation towards the end was amazing and I’m glad she came to that conclusion on her own and had to actually educate Greyson. Overall, a great steamy read for someone wanting a quick BDSM read.

Meh

So it was a weird concept. Leaning more on the side of taboo than I thought it would. Greyson becomes like this father figure setting rules and punishment for Chrissy . But there was also the attraction that they had. So it was a weird dynamic to navigate I’m used to younger girl older guy stories. No matter the dynamic this one was just all over the spectrum with the dynamic. And I feel like that may have been intentional but not all that great to read.

The ending was tied up nicely though. And it seems they worked out what they were going to be to each other. I see the potential so I want to read the next book to see how that one plays out. I will be able to tell if it’s just the first book or if this series just isn’t for me.

Greyson having been Chrissys was a best friend when he was alive helps Chrissy board at his place while attending collage what neither of them saw coming was to have feelings for one another, Greyson feels he shouldn't and that it would be against his pledge to her father that if anything where to happen to him he would look after his best friends family.
Chrissy is of the mind that she didn't really have a dad since he died when she was young and needs a firm hand to guide her and keep her out of trouble.
Lines get crossed and Greyson goes from family friend to Daddy.
A great read by Kelli as always I look forward to reading more of these sorts of books.
