Meet Miranda. She is a cheerful and happy-go-lucky single girl who just happens to be a dominatrix with a dungeon in her flat where she services clients with flogging and extreme correction and (if she's lucky) gets the occasional slave to pay her for the honour of doing her vacuuming.
When she's not delivering 30 lashes to the sensitive parts of religious zealots or doing step aerobics in stilettos on the buttocks of retired army officers, she is just trying to get on with the neighbours and make her flatmate, Dan, realise that in spite of what he may think of her job, she could just be the girl of his dreams (and not just his nightmares).
This is a refreshingly funny and joyfully rude sitcom that proudly celebrates sex, nonconformity, and doing the wrong thing.
As an Audio Show - free for members - when you add Slaving Away to your library, you'll get all 6 episodes, each with a runtime of about 30 minutes.
I have only one thing to say and it’s more of a question really…BUT WHEN CAN I HAVE SERIES 3!?
This series is an absolute hoot, 6 episodes at 30 mins and I was chuckling away at Miranda’s escapades as a Dominatrix. I love the actors and actress playing the characters. (Miranda voicing herself). It was just so much fun to listen to!
Basically chronicling Miranda’s life, using her real-life stories too, had me in stitches! it was interesting hearing her day to day life and how a whole world she didn’t know opened up to her!
This is perfect for everyone! It is hilarious and rude! Miranda sounds like so much fun and would be definitely a great one to have in your corner. In series 2 when she travels around the country with her sworn enemy Mistress Laveen, aka Claire aka Roommate Dan's girlfriend! Especially travelling to Scotland and how it all unfolds up there left me crying with laughter! Had to stop myself from snorting with laughter a lot as I was listening to it at my desk at work!
This really needs a series 3 so please go to audible and download it now!!!
This was fun listening! 30 minute episodes and 6 in total meant I finished it in one day. Its lighthearted and funny so I listened to this whilst getting on with things around the house. Brilliant cast of characters. Would recommend to anybody that's open minded, but would advise your parents/younger siblings/children aren't around if listening to this one out loud! 😁
Slaving Away was so much fun to listen to on Audible Audio- very quirky and hilarious.
It has been a while since I have picked a book only to let time pass by and that too, for pleasure! It is a major departure from the internationally praised Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy with Miranda who happens to be a sex worker with a funny side.
I loved it. Favourite quotes: "You see while sitting on my ass all day does not pay my bills, ironically sitting my ass on someone else, does."
This was a podcast as part of my audible membership, I'd seen it a few times and finally decided to jump in.
It's light-hearted, funny, and entertaining. I was expecting something a little different, I thought it was a rom-com, but I'm struggling to see the rom. I thought it was going to be a roommate to lovers' situation, which it doesn't appear to be. Although I'm still hoping it might come through in the next seasons.
Although it has spicy topic content, I'm not sure I would describe it as spicy. With that being said, it's very entertaining and easy to listen to, and each episode is short.
Funny, good-spirited and light-hearted. A little background research shows that this wonderful comedy is based on the author's own experiences. I love these BBC style radio dramas, which take a low-budget approach to shows which would not get produced otherwise. I really hope that this series gets picked up for more seasons. I do not want to give details about the plot, because it is all about its simple premise - a dominatrix who negotiates the challenges of urban life and paying the bills. The premise might feel a bit odd for the sake of it, but the characters bring the show to life.
This is done like a British sitcom comedy and you know it's a million times better than anything on the TV right now. If you haven't listened to it you are missing out. The voice actors bring so much to this they deserve awards. The writing is funny, fresh and snappy. Ive been listening to it while working on some projects and on several occasions now I've had to stop what I was doing I was laughing so much I couldn't focus on my work. A must recommend for anyone without delicate sensibilities.
A freebie on Audible, plugging the gap before Credit Day, chosen with a raised eyebrow based on its extremely high rating, but I was pleasantly surprised by the content.
Slaving away is a light-hearted window into the sex industry with excellent characterisation and lots of clever word play, and a frankness which I found refreshing. Very accessible and entertaining and not as lowbrow as I was expecting!
I quite enjoyed this collection of episodes about the ups and downs of a dominatrix. There were some laugh out loud moments, and also some insights: I never really gave this much thought about what life would be like for a sex worker. I will listen to the second series. I should add the price is right: free on Audible.ca.
Super funny! Miranda is not your typical sex worker. She is a plus-sized dominatrix. Slaving Away is an Audible Original podcast series. Miranda may be a hot mess and yes, annoying at times, but she is hysterical. Listen to this six episode series to enter her world. It is guaranteed to make you chuckle. If you enjoy it, there are two more in the series available now.
I found this series free on Audible, and since the reviews are good I decided to give it a go. It was a good decision and I had a fun time listening about dominatrix Miranda and her (mis)adventures with clients and her lack of means of transportation. Miranda's voice is radio-like, as well as her roomate Dan, and the stories made me giggle. I know I'll end up listening to all the series.
Hilarious to say the least. Very captivating, funny and interesting. Highly recommend. I started listening to it and when it was ending I almost didn't want to listen to the last episode so that I don't finish the series. Onto series 2
All the characters are so memorable and I absolutely loved the plot. Its so funny and light , wonderful audible to listen to while doing chores or commuting.
Miranda Kanes’s voice really emphasized the funniness of the series. It was absolutely hilarious. With all the things wrong in the world, it just gave me a moment to breathe and laugh and enjoy. Might come back to it whenever I need a pick-me-up.
Maybe not for me... I didn't really enjoy this. There were a few funny things, but honestly I was more irritated by the portrayal of this than anything else. It only got a 3 for the few things I found funny. I hope you enjoy it more than I did.
The first episode isn't great but the rest is quite fun. Don't take the series too seriously, it is definitely a light-hearted comedy not a docu-drama.
The main character isn't particularly good or likeable but the supporting cast are brilliant and more than make up for it. Hugh Dennis is great.
Vile and wonderful! I can't rave about this series enough. It's vile, filthy, hilarious, and about as British as British can be. Miranda is an absolute hoot, so thrilled that season two has just been released.
