Overall, I enjoyed this series! Some of the themes were more dub/non con than I would’ve preferred. It’s a fantasy erotic novel and that’s the best descriptor for it. I grew attached to Vald and Havi’s relationship as it grew and I was rooting for them by the end.

This mangaka also created Finder and I enjoyed this one a lot more than that series.

04.2019:

I wanted to reread the whole series and see how much I still like it. Over the years my taste in manga and what I want and not want to read evolved quite a bit so I wasn't sure how much I would like Crimson Spell roughly 11 years after it started in Germany. Back then I loved the first volumes because of the amount of sex that was in it but I don't really care much about that anymore. Now that I've read every volume again I was much more focused on the story. It is a bit convoluted and you have to read carefully to not get lost and keep track of everything. But, you know what? I still like it. I'm interested in how the story will develop.

Like always, I could do without the consent issues in the earlier volumes, but everything else is good and the art is gorgeous. It's a bit sad that many of the characters practically have the same face, though... strip them naked and most of them would look the same (except for their hair).

I am so happy to finally continue this series!
Halvir and Vald are stuck in a magical pocket dimension but manage to escape after destroying the lock with some sexy time (Crimson Spell logic, do not ask….)

All villagers, Mars include are becoming mindless controlled zombies. Vald get captured (once again) by Asterdol. His soul is split in two and his demonic side is release, taking total control of his body.

There is some pointless tentacles non-con part because hey, why not it an erotic yaoi manga.

The evil sorcerer plan is to make Vald a vessel for the demonic lord and make him submit. I loved that Vald is totally loyal to Halvir and is not having any of Asterdol shit.

The three sorcerers, Halvir, Limris & Halrein united to restrieve Vald.

The dub/noncon elements in this are…certainly there. I think she gets somewhere close to pulling it off, but at some point it does start to feel gratuitous, don’t you think?

I also really wish she had done a side romance plot with Hal and Rulca. That would have been so cute.

Yes, it’s yaoi genre with lots of explicit scenes but I do not care because I am in love with Havi.

The story is compelling, plenty of magic and action plus there’s dragons and monsters and moments that make your heart go doki doki 😉

I’m thankful for the list of dramatis personae at the beginning of this installation. While I really adore Ms. Yamane’s drawings of gorgeous men, the five-year gap between this manga and volume five made it little difficult for me to remember the characters and how they relate to each other. (It’s not helped by the fact that two characters literally resemble each other.)

This installation is a little less than satisfactory since characters get stuck twice in the same pocket dimension, which has little to recommend it than twisted vines and attacking zombie creatures. The mystery of the town that has these shambling beasts appearing at red-hot is explained, albeit in an awkward, roundabout way. I’m still unsure how much of that involves Vald and how much is merely the work of someone completely unrelated to his quest. I may have to go over the previous manga installations to clarify the matter.

Vald and Havi continue to bicker but in a more considered fashion. In spite of Vald being the warrior, Havi is a little too quick to bring violent magical energies to bear, even when he might hurt the innocent. Vald is a more compassionate character, trying desperately to save people or avoid hurting them. When his demonic half is separated from his angelic soul, some of that human tenderness still lingers in both aspects. The soul wants to help but is unable and the demon is capable of horrific violence but is uninterested in visions of world conquest or wanton killing.

There is also the sex, as red hot and lubricious as ever. The nubile Vald spends a lot of time shirtless (like Captain Kirk in classic episodes of Star Trek) and seems to lose his clothes rather easily. So you can understand why Havi and other characters might want to crawl all over him. There’s hot man-on-man hijinks here as well as disturbing images of tentacle sex. If the latter makes you squeamish, then you might want to skip this manga.

But, for those who waited half a decade for this novel to appear, Ms. Yamane shows it was worth the wait.

Title: Crimson Spell Vol. 6 by Ayano Yamane
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, LGBT
Rating: 5 Stars
Volume 6 is completely action packed from the very first page and the cliff-hanger ending had me dying for the next volume. After escaping from the space time realm, Havi thinks that Rimris and Astador are the ones who placed the curse on the sword that Vald uses but whether or not Rimris was a willing participant in this is yet to be seen. The people of the city are still under the control of the high priestess who is being controlled by a demon but they can’t attack the people since they are still human.
During these small battles, Astador arrives and kidnaps Vald again but without the intention of letting him go this time since he now knows that Vald’s body is strong enough to become the vessel it needs to be for the demon within. Vald refuses all of Astador’s advances so he expels the human half of Vald from the body allowing the demon to completely take it over. However, the demon also cares for Havi and rejects Astador so he beings to torture the demon increasing its anger and his control over it but help is on the way.
Ruruka has figured out where Vald is being held and rushed to help his friend, he finds the human half of Vald, transparent and waiting as he explains the situation. In order to return Vald to his body he needs to retrieve it from Astador’s control but he won’t be powerful enough alone. Havi has had his magic sealed and can’t even fight the demons bearing down on them until his master arrives. Now Vald is being targeted by Astador time is running out for Havi to save him especially since the demon under Astador’s control has turned on Ruruka and if it kills him it will crush Vald.

Volume six was far better than volume 5. I don’t get how I can go from being so angry and disgusted with a series to then being entranced. Crimson spell is putting a spell on me I think. It sounds ridiculous. I can’t explain it. I really enjoyed this volume. It was probably my favorite so far in the series but of course it has to have more SA because apparently this series is incapable of having a volume without it but finally in volume 6, it took 6 volumes for this to happen,it is shown in a horrible manner and not like it’s just foreplay or to be brushed off and ignored. Also I really could’ve done without the defending of Limris. Hes clearly awful. There is no defending him. Also a small rant about Sublimes print job here there are pages where the alignment is so off it has words missing or almost cut off. That is just not acceptable for them to release books in this manner.

In the capital city of Zenedoura, nothing is what seems to be, so Vald, Havi and their very eclectic band of travel companions and friends, find themselves running from pocket dimensions, evil sorcerers, raging demons and enthralled citizens... Thanks god, Havi always seems to have some magic up his sleeve to save the day...
I really love this series, the plot, the characters, the enticing mixture of romance, magic, mystery and adventures... Honestly, the only problem is having to wait another five years for the nexts installment. I hope it comes sooner than this one!

Having waited years for the continuation of this story, I'm so happy to finally read it and I must say that Ayano Yamane did not disappoint. She says in her afterwards that her art style has changed so much, but it's still has that same wonderful quality that is uniquely hers. The storytelling is on point and, of course, magical. The only bad thing is now I have to wait for the next volume. Please Sensei! More!

Finally, after a 5 year hiatus, CS returns! I enjoy this series (fantasy and BL--my two favorite things). The plot builds, so hopefully we won't have to wait as long for the next one.

For a powerful sorcerer, Havi is a bit childish, but so is (demon) Vald. It takes away from their prowess a bit, but it is entertaining. Looking forward to the next one!

With how long Ayano Yamane needs between volumes, this cliffhanger is annoying. I mean the following in the best sense, but she's the slightly more productive George R.R. Martin of yaoi.

Siamo arrivato ad un punto molto cruciale, il protagonista è stato diviso in due, che accadrà ancora :)
