About the author

Elys Dolan grew up in a part of England that consists almost entirely of trees and cows, and she was named after a department store in Wimbledon. She’s never let either of these things hold her back and recently graduated from the Cambridge School of Art. She was awarded second place in the Macmillan Prize and was also short-listed for the Waterstone’s Picture This Prize. She lives in Cambridge, England.

Kalle on ihan tavallinen etana, jolla on tavalliset lasit, tylsä työ ja tyly pomo. Tytötkään eivät tykkää, eivät ainakaan sellaiset, jotka ovat dynaamisia uramatoja. Mutta illalla hän vetää kuoren päälleen ja muuttuu Super-etanaksi!

Elys Dolanin "Super-etana" (Mäkelä, 2019) on ihan hupaisa kuvakirja pikkuväelle ja heidän vanhemmilleen, joilla on silmää parodisille elementeille.

This is a big, hard back book with lots of colour that is super fun.

By day he is Kevin, a slug that has a dead end job that he finds boring, he can't get the girls, and his boss is mean to him. He is like an everysnail. But by night he transforms into Super Snail. However Super Snail still had to prove his worth before being classed as a hero and thanks to him having the speed of a snail rather than the speed of a speeding bullet that is proving difficult, but then it happens (the story climax) and he knows how he can be a great super hero.

The ending did sort of fizzle out and it would have been nice for Super Snail/Kevin to get the girl at the end. But up to that point it was all good fun, and Super Snail found his niche in the crime-fighting world making for a conclusion in that part of the story. The art is great too with lots going on in the pictures. A nice little read that was "super" fun.

Kalle on ihan tavallinen etana, jolla on tavalliset silmälasit, tavallinen solmio ja tavallinen tylsä työ... Kunnes Kalle laittaa kuoren päälleen ja muuntautuu Super-Etanaksi!

Kallella on paljon yhtäläisyyksiä niin Bruce Waynen kuin Clark Kentin kanssa. Supersankareista ja sarjakuvista pitävänä lukijana tämä lasten kuvakirja ei kuitenkaan kolahtanut minulle yhtään.

Lapsen suursuosikki, aikuisen mielestä ehkä hieman sekava. Sisältää paljon pop-kulttuuriviittauksia, jotka menevät lapsilta todennäköisesti yli hilseen. Joitain ihan hauskoja juttuja tässä on aikuisenkin näkökulmasta.
