Successful Texas lawyer, Reade Walker, curses that damn song every time it plays, all too aware of the irony of its lyrics. After all, he has been secretly and painfully enamored with Jesse’s girl, Gwen, for nearly a decade. It was love at first sight for him, but sadly she’s not his girl. She belongs to the one man who betrayed him and knows Reade’s hidden family secret. Yet Reade can’t seem to love anyone except the one woman he can't have. Or can he make her mine?
When Gwen Clark’s senator husband runs off with his intern and all their money, the ensuing scandal turns her life upside down. Deserted, penniless and desperate to provide for her six-year-old daughter, Gwen has no one to turn to but Reade Walker. The one man her heart desperately wants, but her pride dreads having to ask for help. Despite welcoming them into his home, it seems like Reade can barely stand being in the same room with her anymore, let alone under the same roof—in the same bedroom. But Gwen is determined to get her life back on track. It is past time to rediscover her own dreams…if only she can keep her aching heart from breaking all over again.

I listened to the audiobook of Jesse’s Girl. It was narrated by Verla Bond and it appears to be her first audiobook, but I couldn’t tell. She was a great narrator.
Jesse’s Girl starts with Gwen and her daughter who are now in a bad position. After Gwen’s husband, Jesse, is involved in a scandal and pretty much leaves them high and dry. Thankfully, Gwen’s friend Reade, who also happens to be her daughter’s godfather, helps them out. Reade has always been better to Gwen then her husband. If only she would have followed her heart and got with him before she married Jesse… now she has a second chance with him, but of course there is some Jesse drama that comes out to cause problems.
This romance wasn’t bad, but it was a bit on the forgettable side for me. It just didn’t hold my attention and I didn’t connect to the characters as much as I would have liked. I did love Reade’s devotion to the heroine and the fact that they got a second chance to get it right. This was a quick and sweet romance with a fabulous hero, plus a single parent (which I love).
Gwen has a real shit show thrown her way when her asshole of a husband liquidates as many assets as he can and disappears with his intern and the money he stole. Left to pick up the pieces of her tattered life, Gwen reaches out to Reade.
This is a mostly fun story with misunderstandings and misinterpretations, steamy relief, and a collision with the past on a couple of examples (those aren't quite as much fun). I like how Gwen slowly found her footing and didn't back down when confronted with Jesse again.
Jesse’s girl is another hit with me from Tara September. I really like this author and her audiobooks.
Reade has always had a thing for Jesses girl. He never thought Jesse deserved her. Now Jesse has committed the ultimate betrayal Gwen needs help. At the centre of a scandal she’s desperate to escape, Reade finds he can’t do enough to find her a new home with him.
Gwen has a child and Reade soon finds he’s slipping into the life he’s always wanted. He can’t resist Gwen but can there change in relationship really work out when there is so much baggage.
I really like Verla Bond as a narrator. She has a smooth engaging voice. She reads this story so well.
Reade is a beautiful man and I like the way he safes the day even after all those years of thinking Gwen wasn’t his.
5 out of 5.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book that I read from Tara September. I really did like it. It was a nice story about Gwen and Reade who were friends before they went their separate ways. She was married to a guy named Jesse who left her for a younger woman and took all their money. Gwen was left with nothing and a scandal on her hands and she had no one to turn to except Reade. Reade has always loved Gwen from afar but when she picked Jesse, he stepped back. They were able to find each other again and slowly work their way back to what they both wanted. Gwen will have a bit of a shock but she will be able to overcome it and finally get the life she should have had.

Jesse's Girl is a sweet and charming romance about two friends falling in love. Tara September gives readers two lovable characters in Reade and Gwen.
I love the title and it fits so perfectly with the story. Gwen is Jesse's girl and Reade has had to keep his feelings to himself. When Gwen finds out that Jesse has been cheating on her and left with all of their money, she doesn't know how she is going to provide for her daughter. She calls the one man who has always been a constant support in her life. That man is Reade Walker, a Texas lawyer.
Reade is so charming with his protective and loyal attributes. He fell in love with Gwen when he first met her. He never thought she had feelings for him so he kept them to himself. After he finds out what Gwen's husband has put her through, he takes her and her daughter in.
It was beautiful to see them interact because it brought out their special friendship. With time, it was obvious that they had feelings for each other. I loved the slow-burn of the romance because there were so many times when I thought 'this is the moment they are going to kiss'. It took some time, but they found their way.
I give Jese's Girl 4 stars. It is a romantic novel that you can easily finish in one sitting. The build-up and anticipation are so worth it. I want to thank Tara September for allowing me to read a copy. I am looking forward to reading more of her books!
The storyline of “Jesse’s Girl” by Tara September is similar to that song we all know by heart. I have to say that I don’t recall Rick’s Jesse being as much of an egotistical idiot as the one in this story. I start to question my sanity when I want to reach in and throttle a character. However, this would be a testament to the author’s ability to elicit emotion from her readers.
The book immediately hooked me and kept my interest throughout. I found quite a bit of story packed into this well-paced shorter read. Gwen and Reade are so sweet together you can’t help but root for their HEA. A highly enjoyable standalone love story with a bit of a twist you may or may not see coming. This was my first read of the author and it won't be my last:)
Oh my gosh I loved this story! I couldn’t put it down, so I read it in one sitting! I just had to know what happened and if they got their happy ending! Reade is an amazing hero and I fell in love with him from the first page. He is a big shot lawyer who co-owns a law firm with offices all around the world. He has been in love with Gwen since he met her in a supermarket in his hometown with Jessi (his best friend as kids) 7 years ago. Reade and Gwen become friends but when she marries Jessie and gets pregnant he withdraws from them. But he is still there for her and her daughter when Jessie leaves her with his intern and all of their money. Gwen is also an amazing character, she is very protective towards the people she loves but also towards herself because Jessie really destroyed her. But after he leaves her she gets more independent and less naive. And she is an amazing mother to her 6-year old daughter Maddie who is so cute and smart and she loves Reade too. Jessie is a real villain and I really hated him. He is really dominating and manipulating and he is a senator who knows how to spin the truth. He doesn’t care about anyone other than himself not even his wife or daughter. The plots in this book really surprised me and normally I figure out the plots pretty quickly, but I was really surprised several times. I can definitely recommend this book! I loved it!

Reade her husband&s best friend gives them a place to stay, how can he not he has been in love with her since he met her 7 years ago, only to find out she was his best friends girl. Join them on the road to discovery. A clean, nice length story of love and redemption.

This is my second novella by Tara September and another enjoyable story. This was an interesting mix of second-chance romance, smarmy ex drama, cute kid, and quite a bit of slow burn. This is a great audiobook for anyone looking for a little angst and some anticipation while this delightful couple works through long-held misunderstandings before finally coming together to build the relationship and family of their dreams. When Reade and Gwen do get together – September gives us some super steamy scenes leaving everyone satisfied.
Jesse’s Girl ends in a solid and satisfying HEA. While this is absolutely a stand alone, September seems to drop a little hint that Danielle (Reade’s fellow attorney) may be getting her own story. Please?
This was my first time listening to Verla Bond and I enjoyed her performance. I especially appreciated the slight Southern lilt to Danielle’s voice.

I really enjoyed reading this novella. The writing is fantastic and paints a realistic picture. I laughed at a few clever comedic lines and smiled a lot while reading this. I felt drawn to Gwen’s pain and desperately wanted to see Reade continue to be a swoony hero. Nice one!
Reade And His Childhood Best Friend Jesse Both Fall For Gwen, But She Is Jesse’s Girl, And Jesse Won’t Let Him Forget That! Eight Years Later, Though, The Truth Comes Out.
Reade Walker had been childhood best friends with Jesse Clark. They did everything together. It was in high school that Reade began to notice Jesse’s fierce competitiveness, though. Things had changed. It was just Reade’s luck that he fell in love at first sight with Jesse’s girl. It was eight years ago that he first saw her and knew she was the one, and it was only moments later that Jesse appeared, informing Reade that she was his. The pair married seven years ago, and although he loved his goddaughter Maddie, Reade had put distance between himself and Jesse’s wife years ago in an act of self-preservation. Today, he is forty-four and a very successful attorney. He has had girlfriends, but nobody had ever come close to Gwen.
Gwen Gallo-Clark, thirty-two, loved being a mother to six year old Maddie; there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her. She had met her husband, Jesse Clark, at a vulnerable time when she was twenty-four. Her career as a reporter was beginning to take off and he was known as the bachelor Congressman in D.C. Her feature article was good for his career, and he soon proposed marriage. Thanks in large part to her work on his campaign, Jesse soon became Senator Clark of Texas. These days, however, she doesn’t work at all. She had relocated from New York to Jesse’s hometown of East Dodge, Texas, even though Jesse spends much of his time living in a D.C. apartment.
When the news hits that Senator Clark has fled the country with his intern and has been accused of embezzling from his foundation, Gwen’s world comes crashing down. Worse, Jesse mortgaged everything without her knowledge, so she and Maddie are left penniless. With few options, Gwen swallows her pride to ask a favor of Reade Walker, Jesse’s old friend.
Reade and Gwen’s story is a lovely quick read. After years of longing, they finally get a chance at love. They must work through their mistaken beliefs about one another as well as through what happened in the past, but their happy ending is never in doubt. It all wraps up nicely for them and for Maddie.
Reade and his childhood best friend Jesse both fall for Gwen, but she is Jesse’s girl, and Jesse won’t let him forget that. Eight years later, though, the truth comes out. The story is nicely written. The plot is simple. The characters are nicely developed given the length. It is written in third person. The POV alternates between Reade and Gwen. I rate this book four stars.
For the last six years Gwen Clark has given her time and attention to a man who didn't appreciate her, respect her, nor honor the vows they took. All those years ago when he asked for her hand in marriage she had her doubts, knew she might be making the biggest mistake of her life, but at the time she felt she had no other choice. So she accepted his proposal and has regretted it everyday since.
But little does she know all that time there has been someone waiting in the wings, someone who has loved her since the first day that they met.. her husbands friend Reade.
When her husband decides to leave her and their young daughter, for a life with a much younger woman, and takes every penny they have with him, Gwen doesn't know what she is going to do. She can't possibly ask Reade for help... or can she?
Jesse's Girl is a story of resilience, new beginnings, healing, and finding love in the most unexpected places. This story unites two people who have loved one another from afar for years, both knowing it was wrong, but both unable to deny it. Gwen found herself stuck in an impossible situation, thinking she was on her own when her whole world came crumbling down around her, but all it took was one phone call to change everything. She was too proud to ask for help or place her livelihood in the hands of another man again. But with limited options she soon realized that taking Reade up on his offer of staying with him until they got back on their feet, was the best place for her and her daughter to be. Watching these two walk the fine line between them, and try to learn how to live beside one another without letting their true feelings show was downright torturous! Their love story is a slow burn kind of romance with bits of angst that will have you dying in anticipation... but so totally worth the wait!! I really enjoyed this first time read it's words were rich with emotion, captivating, and so good on the heart! Highly recommend!
This audiobook introduced me to a new author and now is one that I will now continue to follow. The life of Gwen Clark and her daughter has been turned upside down when her senator husband not only leaves the country with his intern but also steals money from a foundation . He also cleans out their bank account. A marriage that was already on the rocks has disintegrated. In that moment of desperation, she calls their mutual friend, lawyer Reade Walker. Reade has been secretly in love with Gwen since the day he met her 7 years ago. He’ll do anything to help her and his godchild. As feelings as exposed a relationship blossoms. But much to Reade’s concern, Gwen plans to divorce Jesse, the senator, and move to NYC. But what happens when the senator returns? Will Gwen take him back, or will she realize that Reade is truly the real thing? I was entrusted a copy by StoryOrigin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was a very sweet story. My rating was actually 3.5, but only because while I really liked the story and I really enjoyed it, it wasn't one of those books that grips you or has a lot of depth to it. It was very easy to read and very enjoyable. I thought Reade was practically perfect and was disappointed that he isn't real. Of course, it wouldn't have mattered if he was anyway because he only loved Gwen. His patience and control was extremely admirable. I would have punched Jesse a lot sooner if I had been in his shoes. Or if I had been in Gwen's shoes for that matter. She was definitely a better woman than I was to spend six years married to a man who so obviously didn't care about her or their daughter. But the good thing is Gwen and Reade found each other in the end and were finally happy.

I loved the way Reade cared for Gwen and Maddie, his concern for them equivalent to his own family. Always loving her but respecting her relationship with Jesse, his childhood friend and later nemesis. When she was publicly humiliated by Jesse, Reade rushed in and saved her from poverty and abandonment. I liked the way her struggles in her marriage helped to open her eyes to the way Reade treated her and Maddie, more of a partner and father than Jesse ever was. I wished Jesse was made to suffer more for his selfish behavior, but I’m blood thirsty when it comes to cheaters!

This is the first book by this Author that I have read it is well written and kept me turning pages. It is a short quick story to read. Successful Texas Lawyer Reade Walker hates the song Jesse's Girl because Jesse does have the girl he has wanted for quite sometime. When Gwen Clark's senator husband Jesse run off with another woman and all their money Gwen comes to Reade with her six year old daughter needing help. Reading how Reade and Gwen are able to get their happy ending made this story for me. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Jesse’s Girl is the story of a scorned senator’s wife, Gwen, who finds out her husband not only has run off with his mistress but also all of their money. Reade has been Jesse’s friend since childhood, but has been in love with Gwen since the met. He’s kept his distance because she was Jesse’s girl, but all bets are off now that Jesse totally messed up. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. The chemistry between Gwen and Reade is amazing. I love Maddie too. The story felt somewhat rushed and repetitive at times, but was very entertaining. I would definitely read more by this author.
Reade has always been in love with Gwen. But she was Jesse's girl. Until Jesse disappears with his intern, and all of their money. Reade isn't going to miss this opportunity. It was nice to see these old friends find the HEA that they deserve. The best part of the book... Seeing Gwen grow and change, coming into her own. This a great fast listen, with humour and the right amount of steam.
Gwen Clark and her daughter's life is turn around and upside side down, when her husband not only leaves the country with his intern but also steals money from a foundation and also cleans out their bank account.
Gwen calls for help from her friend, lawyer Reade Walker. Reade has been secretly in love with Gwen and a relationship blossoms. But the husband returns.....
Gwen is Jesse’s girl. For years, she has given all of her attention, time and love to Jesse. But Jesse did not deserve it. When she originally married Jesse, Gwen was worried that it was the wrong decision, but did not feel she had any other choice.
When Jesse leaves Gwen and their daughter Maddie for a younger woman, taking all of their money with him, Gwen does not know where to turn. But then there is Reade….
Reade is a charming, loyal and caring lawyer. He has loved Gwen ever since he laid eyes on her, but being Jesse’s friend, never told her of his feelings and always took a step back. When Gwen is left on her own, Reade swoops in to look after her and her daughter.
Jesse’s girl is a story of new beginnings, healing, friendship, love and all the complications in between. It’s a slow burning love story which makes it even more grasping and exciting. I wouldn’t be able to count the times that I thought “is this their moment?!” It’s a story that keeps you reading to the end just to see how they end up and if they get their happy ending. An easy read with a beautiful storyline.
When Gwen’s world is turned upside down after her cheating husband, Senator Jesse Clark, embezzles millions and flees the country, she is left penniless and humiliated in their small town. Now a single mum, she dreads asking for help from longtime friend Reade Walker, even though he is the one man her heart desperately wants and craves. Meanwhile, Reade has hid his true feelings for Gwen all these years and so has kept his distance. But when he offers her and her daughter free legal support and accommodation, with the proximity, he cannot help but not stay away from Gwen. And this time, he vows to do whatever it takes to keep her and her daughter safe.
I really loved the romance in this. I especially loved Reades devotion to Gwen and you could also see his connection with Gwen’s daughter who also happens to be his goddaughter. I enjoyed their somewhat second chance romance. The small town vibes was also cute and sweet. The drama with Jesse was also entertaining. This was nice and short, and pleasant to read/listen to.
I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Verla Bond. Her portrayal of Gwen and Reade was on point!👌 She captured the emotions of each character and brought the overall story to life!
do you belive in love at first sight? this is what Reade felt when he met Gwen. But she was Jesse’s girl. Can they have a chance at live after Jeesie's betrayal? good audiobook
I found this audiobook by Tara September to be very enjoyable to listen to the narrator did a great job to bring this story to life for me. Both the author and narrator are new to me and I very much hope to come across their great work again in the future.
Verla Bond captive me her narration of Jesse's Girl by Tara September, with her tone and speed of her reading it was like she was really enjoying the story as well. It was easy to distinguish between the different characters and the change of POV's. This was the first time I had to listen to some spicy bedroom shenanigans, that at first, it was a bit uncomfortable to listen to the narrator say the words but as the book progressed it all come with more ease.
The quality of the audiobooks was perfect for me, it was clear with my full understanding of every word spoken. I would recommend this version of this Jesse's Girl by Tara September as I feel the audiobook was narrated with a sense of excitement and enjoyment by the narrator that it flowed onto me the listener.
Tara September has written a wonderful and sexy read that will have you listening to this audiobook with eagerness to see who the story will end. Her characters are likeable, enjoyable and relatable in this book, a book that will have our heart beating just as fast as the characters. This story is only a short book but it hits all the right things you need to have you happy with the end and how the characters get to evolve throughout the book. Like a said at the start I have not read anything by this author before and I would love to see what other great pieces of works she may have already done. I have not read this book only listen to the audio version that was narrator by Verla Bond.

I listened to the audiobook of Jesse’s Girl. It was narrated by Verla Bond and she did a great job at bringing this novella to life.
We meet Gwen Clark and her daughter who are the midst of a scandal following her senator husband Jesse who has runs off with his intern and all their money, leaving Gwen to have to fend for herself, with no home or money. Reade Walker is Jesse's friend but he has always love Gwen from a far for the longest time. When she turns to him in her hour of need he appears standoffish and she can't work out why.
This was a slow friends to lovers romance that I really enjoyed. The audible version was well produced, I found out that it was Verla Bond first audio book and she did a great job, you wouldn't know it was her first. The audio was clear and free of background noise and any long pauses.
This is a friend to lover romantic novella with relatable characters and sensual romance. I listened to this story in audiobook form, and it was enjoyable. The narration is professional, and her interpretation of the characters and the plot immerses the reader in the story making it an authentic experience.
The plot is easy to follow with great sensual tension between Gwen and Reade. There is also a charming family element to this story, which makes the happy ever after more rewarding. This easy to listen to audiobook is perfect for lovers of sensual romance and happy endings.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author in return for an honest review.
Do you have a favorite song? Mine is Jessie’s Girl by Rick Springfield and when I saw the title of this book it made me think of the song; then when I found it’s loosely based of the song I knew I wanted to read it.
I enjoyed the book and this was the first time reading this author. So many times I wished I could give Gwen a hug because of her douche of a husband but I was so glad she had Reade! Talk about dedication of loving someone; Reade has it in spades.
