Ken Hubona’s Brewing Justice is intriguing from the outset, compelling throughout, and satisfying at the end. Hubona is a skilled craftsman whose prose is easy to read and draws you in from the first chapter.
The characters all feel real, although some of the worst people are pushing the envelope. An underlying plot is good versus evil. But this isn’t a cliché treatment of that time-worn theme. Hubona keeps us on our toes with unexpected plot twists and adroit character development, neither of which readers will see coming. There is not much gray area between good and evil here, but there may be room for some redemption.
All the characters, including a lot of minor ones, are well-drawn and believable in the context of the novel. Bob Baldwin, the protagonist, is thoroughly likable (even though he’s an acquisitions lawyer), and soon enough he’s out for revenge. Bob is a flawed hero, but he’s no more flawed than the rest of us. He takes his lumps and comes out of the battle better off, vindicated in the opinion of the readers if not in the eyes of the law. Bob’s wife, Heather, is nothing but a scheming gold-digger until she isn’t. H. Meriwether Doyle, the head of the law firm, is as close to pure evil as possible. Add to that a penchant for hurting others, and treating the rest of the world as if it was his own personal sandbox. You’re not going to be able to relate to Doyle or a couple of others who are cruel and sometimes inhuman, but the majority of the characters you meet are people you might want to have a beer with.
The plot of Brewing Justice is quite complex, and the story is told from several different points of view. That can be difficult for readers to follow, but not when the narrative is in the deft hands of a talented writer like Hubona. The writing is top-notch, and the novel shows the value of good editing. I highly recommend this novel, but it comes with a warning. You might not be able to put it down once you start.

This was a book I could not put down easily. Like his prior novel Shades, Brewing Justice has a compelling theme and a satisfying conclusion. In our current socio-economic-political climate it is a pleasure to see the bad guys finally get their comeuppance and the good guys their just rewards with plenty of plot twists and unforeseen circumstances to keep us glued to the pages. In addition we get to see the protagonist's character developing and deepening along with the plot so that he wins our hearts and our sympathies as the story progresses. A win for small town life, and a blow to the bad values that seek to destroy it. Thank you Mr. Hubona for another good read-- I hope more are forthcoming!!

Crime by alearner
I was expecting more crime this book as the author had highlighted th scenarios attorneys encounter when taking instructions from clients however there was a story albeit much more subdued and developed into a benevolent exercise which cannot be factual with the attorney profession today The opportunity was within the chapters to illustrate the retaliation of human nature but that never happened but overall it is an enjoyable read despite being less than my exoectations

A very good book. Fun, entertaining and fast paced. Not only that, but there’s also beer! A well developed story line and characters that come to life. You will be hooked after the first few pages.
