Genre: Fantasy, Dystopian, YA
Tropes: vampires, twin sisters, enemies to lovers, vampire × vampire slayer, ancient vampire family, forced proximity, vampire × human, ancient prophecy, Norse Gods, curse, love triangle
Series:   Age of Vampires #5
Cliffhanger: Yes
Spice: 1/5 🌶
Rating: 4.25 ⭐

Yep, this is definitely the sisters' work, because that ending was just a cruel cliffhanger; which makes me happy I don't have to wait for the next book to be out.

》》The Plot《《

With Montana being turned into a vampire, she and Erik finally get the chance to spend some time together and the slayers and vampires reach a fragile understanding and are united in their wish to break the curse by solving the prophecy. But Valentina is still stirring troubles and, with an army of Biters and the Gods on her side, she grows more and more powerful every day.

》》Characters and Relationships《《

👩🏻👩🏼 Montana and Callie

“I love you, Monty,” I breathed, wishing I'd said it more often because when she’d died it was all I could think. That I hadn’t told her enough even though she already knew. She should hear it more.
“I love you, Callie,” she whispered back even though we were well aware that everyone else in this room could hear us easily.

I keep thinking about Tory and Darcy from Zodiac Academy and, in a way, I think these two were part of the discovering process of how to write an amazing twin bond. I'm enjoying this new status of their relationship because I was a bit upset that Montana didn't really have any cool strengths but now they are sort of balanced. And, of course, I love their love.

👩🏻🧑🏻‍💼 Montana and Erik

“I'm yours tonight.”
“What about tomorrow?” he asked beneath my fingers, his tone undoing me.
I brushed my knuckles across his coarse stubble with a grin. “If you behave.”

My two favorite cinnamonrolls; I was sooooo happy they got some proper time togheter but, if you love these two as much as I do, you're going to be reaaaaally angry with the ending.

👩🏼🤺 Callie and Magnar

“Marry me, Callie,” he breathed as he pushed my wet hair over my shoulder. “Fuck the gods and their rules. Fuck Valentina and Fabian and every other thing that might want to get between us. I want to be yours forever and I want you to be mine. You’re all I’ve ever wanted.”
“Of course I’ll be yours,” I breathed. “I already am.”

If power couple needed another portrayal, they definitely qualify for that. Big Rose and Dimitri (Vampire Academy) and Aelin and Rowan (Throne of Glass) vibes. But, again, that ending was certainly not kind to them either.

🤺🧍‍♂️ Magnar and Julius

"When I was put into that slumber, the women of our clan wept with the knowledge that they’d never again know the level of pleasure I was able to provide them.”
“And their husbands cheered with the relief of knowing they’d never again have to chase you from their tents.”

I love how teasing seems to be their love language. I can appreciate the sisterly bond between Montana and Callie but there was no way I could ignore this brotherly relationship full of taunting between Magnar and Julius. Plus, I swear, I think Julius is my favourite character; he had funny lines and scenes in every damn scene.

🧍‍♂️🧑🏻‍💼Julius and Eric

“Nice house. Being an asshole clearly pays well,” Julius's voice reached me.
“Definitely better than being a giant fuckwit does,” Erik replied.

I can smell the beginning of a bromance here. I mean, we've already established that taunting and teasing are part of the love language.

🧑🏻‍💼🤺 Erik and Magnar

"But I still don’t know what Callie’s sister sees in you.”
“Well you saw it earlier when you shoved your tongue down my throat,” I pointed out with a snigger.

Considering everything they had to go through in this book and what they will have to go through togheter, I think it's safe to say I'm expecting a bromance from them as well.

👩🏻👸🏼Montana and Clarice

“I always wanted a sister. Silly, isn't it?"
“I don't think we can help what our hearts want,” I said with a sad smile. “When I was brought to this castle, the last thing I ever could have imagined was falling for one of your brothers.”
“I told you they're not all bad,” she said with a grin. “Well, Fabian can be an ass, but he has a good heart. Deep down.”
“I like him more when he's in love with my sister,” I said with a laugh. “He certainly has a way with words.”
She snorted a laugh. “Did he really write her a poem?”
“Yes and it was atrocious.”

I loved this moment with them and I'm definitely looking forward to more scenes of these two. And I'm waiting for the moment Clarice and Callie will click, so the three of them could form a female power group.

👸🏼🧍‍♂️Clarice and Fabian

Clarice looked to Julius with a grimace. “The last time I saw him, he tried to cut my head off.”
“Foreplay.” Julius shrugged.

If these two won't end up togheter, I'm going to be sooooooo pissed off. The hate, the tension, the taunting.... golden stars. They could be the best enemies to lovers in this series and I'm totally rooting for them. An original vampire and a ruthless slayer together? Yes, please.

🙍🏻‍♀️Valentina

"I would have been an adoring wife. I would have made you both happy beyond your wildest dreams. If either of you had married me like you’d promised then I would have been a queen. But now that chance is gone...and I have taken the power you both denied me. I seized my own crown without either of your help.”

I want to hate her. I really do. But I understand her. If this series would have been written from her perspective, Magnar and Erik would have been villains and this could have been her villain origins story. Because they did promise her things and ... you know what people say, there's nothing as terrific as a scorned woman set on revenge.

“I'm not just a slayer. I am a woman. Human. And I need more in my life than the empty existence my betrothed offers me. My clan disregard me, mock me. And I am tired of living that way. Why should I protect the people who show me no love?”

She gives me Gone Girl vibes, because she's the villain you can understand but still don't root for because the love stories between Magnar and Callie and Erik and Montana stole the spotlight. I have such mixed feelings about her because the feminist urge in me is like "good for you girl, getting power your own way and taking your revenge on the men who hurt you" but at the same time I'm like "nooooo you're hurting and destroying my favourite characters and relationships!". I mean, I understand her need for revenge, but she's about to take things to far and then I'll hate her without doubt.

》》Favorite Scenes《《

🧍‍♂️👩🏼Julius comforting Callie about her choice to turn Montana into a vampire
👩🏻🧑🏻‍💼Montana and Erik finally being together
👩🏼🧑🏻‍💼Callie visiting Erik's dream
🤺👩🏼Magnar and Callie in the shower
🧍‍♂️👩🏻Julius meeting vampire Montana and hugging her

“How's Callie?” I asked as he released me.
“Well I've left her alone with Magnar so I imagine she's really good right now.” He winked and I grimaced.
“Ew.”

🧍‍♂️👸🏼Julius taunting Clarice
👩🏼👩🏻The twins reuniting
🧑🏻‍💼🧑🏽‍💼👩🏼Erik reading Fabian's poem to Callie

"Truly, my Callie, you have no flaws.
You smell like sunflowers and apple sauce.
So this is my promise: I'll always be yours.
I'll win you from Magnar’s big meaty paws.”

🧍‍♂️🧑🏽‍💼Julius reciting fragments of Fabian's poem to Callie back to him
👩🏼🧑🏽‍💼Callie and Fabian talking
🗡The fight
👩🏼👩🏻Callie and Montana killing Wolfe
🧑🏽‍💼👩🏼Fabian showing Callie the weaponry
👩🏻👸🏼Montana and Clarice bonding
🤺🧑🏻‍💼Magnar and Erik being forced by Idun to be in love

》》Conclusion《《

I need the next book now and I'm totally hooked. I want more and I'm glad I picked this series. If you are a Susanne and Caroline fan, definitely give it a try.

He lifted a bag of chips from the couch and held them out to her. “Snack?”
“What the fuck?” Clarice snarled, looking ready to rip him apart.
“Oh sorry,” Julius said with a mocking grin, dropping the chips and holding out his wrist instead. “Snack?”

"I dreamed of you every night before I met you"
'You were the most desperate desire of my heart a thousand years before you were even born."

When Montana wakes up her life is turned upside down to an impossible reality that she is not prepared for. While Callie struggles with the guilt of making the terrifying decision that could destroy her sister. The sisters are now in two completely different worlds. But the slayers and the vampire have one thing common, Valentina, who is causing havoc in the cites. With a fragile alliance, the vampires and the slayers are forced to unite and fight against their common enemy together.

⤷ Clarice and Julius are my new favorite thing! The amount of sexual tension and their flirtations had me dyinggggg! I JUST SHIP THEM SO MUCH!!

⤷ All I want is a few chapters Julius point of view in the next book, like is that too much to ask for?!

⤷ The Fabian content was the best. I did not realise how much I needed that comedic relief until now. Also, I started to feel bad for him even though he is an ass but I hope he has a good character development!

⤷ I didn't dislike Magnar that much in this book, surprisingly. I was expecting him to be a complete douche but he was the opposite which I enjoyed!

⤷ I'm so glad that there will another two books than originally this book being the second last. I'm not prepared to say goodbye to this series. I didn't feel right when reading knowing the next book will be the last as there was still so much more content that had to be told. But I'm so excited for the next two books!

⤷ This ending like really messed me up. Definitely the worst cliffhanger so far in this series! I don't think I will be able to recover from this for a very long time!

"You love me, no one else. And you will do as I bid. You will fight for me with all your heart. You will adore me, covet me. There is no other love in your life but me."

I highly recommended these books to anyone! These books have so twists and turns that make it impossible to stop reading! This series is so addicting!

This is probably my favorite so far in the series. I feel like there was a lot more character development in this one as well as connections being made. I’m loving how it’s all coming together finally!

This is one of my favorite books in the series. The romances between Callie and Magnor and Montana and Erik are well established now and I loved that (though that cliffhanger is going to cause chaos in book 6). The cliffhanger was bad but the fourth book's was worse in my opinion. RTC.

Just when you think nothing else terrible can happen it does! The characters continue to surprise me and the way they have grouped together prove a formidable force. We continue to get more information fed to us from the past which helps puts everything together with the present situation.

Eternal Night is the fifth book in the Age of Vampires series and it is seriously just getting more action packed, more intense. The twists and turns that Caroline and Suanne create are so mind blowing. This novel was addicting, I read it in one sitting.

The first half of the book saw the Belvederes and Slayers united in their hatred of the gods. With over a thousand years of resentment simmering beneath the surface however, it’s easier said than done to put their animosity aside. As a result there were some genuine laugh out loud moments which I thought were a stroke of genius on the writers part.

This novel contained some of the most epic battle scenes. This whole story-line is so unique, and the creativity behind the characters and the plot is just great! So much has happened since the first novel, and these characters have grown so much. That’s why I’ve really been loving Caroline’s books, they’re so different and unique, she is definitely an author to look out for! I’ve never read anything from Susanne, other than this series so far, but I’m looking forward to more from her.

This series is something to look out for… SERIOUSLY. You will be hooked from book one, and its hold on you until the very end. That cliff-hangar, got me so shook. I’m sooo looking forward to book 6, Eternal Storrn. I WANT MORE!!! haha There are six books planned but with a recent message from the authors they’re planning a 7th book! (List of books in the series below) I highly recommend it!

I think there is utter chaos in this book but also it’s a little all over the place. I kind of just want to see what happens at this point.

Also I don’t love the misogyny of the slayers in this series. Both Julius and Magnar can bite a dick.

Well… um, I fear we lost the plot for this one. I was so blinded by my frustration and confusion that I really couldn’t stay focused; this is probably my least favorite book of this series. However, we still get to know the characters better and experience them getting closer in… ways. I will not be explaining further.
I just felt like the direction this took was redundant and had no depth. But I’m just happy to see how strong the twins have become.

3.5/5⭐️ for me but, I’m still irrevocably in love with this saga and nothing can change that. Let’s hope things get better for Book 6 📚

I'm starting to get frustrated. I know that these authors are known for ripping the hearts out of their audience, but at least in Zodiac Academy there was a reason for it. In this book, the author's abandoned their own reasoning from earlier books to just unnecessarily create angst, anxiety, and drama. And it's just illogical! It's driving me insane.

This book picks up right where the previous one left off. Montana is now a vampire (we saw that coming in book 1, let's be honest) and reunited with Erik. There is an official truce between the slayers and Belvederes, with them sort of uniting to fight against the Gods. But there's another enemy now ... Valentina, who has been scorned by both Erik and Magnar in her 1000+ year quest for power. My biggest issue with the book is the Gods and the direction that it's going.

The first two books established that Andvari created the vampires as penance/payback for the Belvedere's parents stealing his gold and failing to return it all. He said that he will lift the curse if they either return the final piece or solve the prophecy. Idun created the slayers to destroy the vampires because she was pissed that Andvari stole her power of immortality and gifted it to the vampires, with her having no power over them. But in book 3, 4, and now 5, Idun has changed her mind??? She doesn't want the vampires gone??? She wants them to live??? She's purposely blocking their path to solving the prophecy??? WHY?!?!?!? That literally goes against her cannon! And if she's doing all this just to piss off Magnar, that seems so petty when the world is LITERALLY ENDING!!

And now the Gods are siding with Valentina to allow vampires to hunt humans?!? They're helping her kill the Belvederes and kill the slayers?!? All because the missing piece of gold is FINALLY FOUND!?!? THAT WAS PART OF THE DEAL!! And haven't the Gods and Valentina realized that if the vampires hunt all the humans, they will have no food source left and no one left to worship them!?!? And why why why would Idun help a vampire to kill all the humans when, again, that goes against the reason she created the slayers?!? I know that they keep saying that the Gods are fickle and tricksters, but there is no logical reason for any of this except for the authors to create more drama.

I'll definitely be finishing this series, but I'm beyond frustrated.

"This is only the beginning of us," he swore. "I will chase life with you to the ends of time."

✨ TROPES & THEMES ✨
✔️ book 5 of 7 in series
✔️ vampires, slayers, gods, humans
✔️ slow burn romance
✔️ prophecies and plot twists
✔️ epic showdowns and fights
✔️ unhinged twisted sister humor
✔️ story and lore buildup
✔️ cliffhanger that makes you laugh but also AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Good grief! The Thwithted thithters did it again!! (Channeling my inner Wolfe here lmao)

Forsaken Relic answers the prayers all of us have been on our knees yearning for for the entirety of this series. And it did NOT disappoint. 🔥 Caroline and Susanne delivered another epic and action packed novel to their revamped Age of Vampire series and I ate it up, no crumbs.

The book was nonstop action and showdowns - and when it wasn’t, the romance was steamy, and the banter and character development was smoothly playing out, and before you know it: the book ended and we ran out of pages!! But fear not, book 6 follows next month!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I felt it’s one of the best yet! And I’ve loved them all so much! The cliffhanger was wild but also funny? You’ll see. 🤣 this is a MUST READ series for anyone who loves pnr stories and Twisted Sisters fans. This series showcases everything I love about their writing and it’s an absolute TREASURE of a series. With five books down, it’s the perfect bingeable story! So use that vampire speed and run to start it!!

So much happened in this one. The last 15% of this was wild and I’m literally foaming at the mouth to start the next one so here were a few of my favorite aspects of this book:

✨Julius. I love his brother-sister like relationship with the twins. So cutie and he’s hilarious. The tension between him and Clarice is HOT and I hope that finally comes to a hilt in the next book. Especially after her heart to heart with Montana 😭 Lastly, cannot stop laughing at his nickname for Fabian

✨Valentina is a very good villain. I understand her cause, but the twisted sisters did such a great job at making her so hateable.

✨What happens to Wolfe is sweet justice but I could not stop laughing at his lisp.

✨Erik. Literally everything about him has my eyes GLUED to the page. The way he loves Montana is so pure and beautiful and I just want his tortured soul to be at rest for once!!

What in the hell did I just read?!?!?!? God the endings on these books are just enough to drive someone mad!!! lol

I should've known, though. Just when you think there is some happiness...NOPE. It's ripped right out from beneath you, and you are thrust into pain and anguish. It's so hard to say what I'm feeling other than I hate the Gods, and I LOATHE Valentina.

I'm really hoping something happens with Clarice and Julius. This would make me so happy!!

“I refused to accept that this was our fate: to stand on opposite sides of a war we’d never chosen to take part in. No. We’d never been divided in anything in our entire lives. So the gods had drawn battle lines and set us apart? I didn’t care. I didn’t dance to their tune anymore. Perhaps vampires and slayers had been created to destroy each other but that would never define us. Because we had something so much purer than hate. We had love.” - Callie

Following Andvari and Idun’s vindictive onslaught, Montana’s life hung in the balance. To save her, Eric was forced to turn her into a vampire. Realising that the gods have been to blame all along, Eric and the Slayers agree to a truce and renew their efforts to break the curse.

Callie agonises over her decision to allow Eric to turn Montana and wonders whether her twin will ever forgive her. Her relief knows no bounds when Erik arranges a meeting between them. Will Montana manage to retain her humanity or succumb to her feral nature?

When Valentina, Wolfe and the Biters attack Realm A, the Belvederes and Slayers team up to stop her once and for all. Unaware that Idun is secretly backing Valentina and imbuing her with more power, have our heroes bitten off more than they can chew?

Eternal Night is the fifth explosive instalment in the Age of Vampire series. Julian in particular was as irrepressible as ever with his constant digs directed at Erik. I was surprised and delighted by the development between him and Clarice. The air between them positively crackled with sexual tension at times.

“The last time I saw him, he tried to take my head off,” said Clarice to Erik.

“Foreplay.” Julius shrugged.

Fabian’s love sick poem is another example:

“Truly my Callie you have no flaws
You smell like sunflowers and apple sauce
So this is my promise, I’ll always be yours
I’ll win you from Magnar’s meaty paws.”

Needless to say that Callie was less than impressed and threatened to chop Fabian’s head off for a second time if he didn’t keep his distance.

With each book I have marvelled at the way the authors have, rather impressively, transitioned back and fourth between the characters without the story ever becoming disjointed. Their work has been nothing short of amazing, especially given the short time between releases.

The book does finish with an excruciating cliffhanger and while I’m desperate to get my hands on the 6th and final instalment of this series, I know I’m going to be sad to see it all end.

If there is one series this year that I would recommend, then the Age of Vampires is it. Fans of vampires, slayers and dark dystopian urban fantasy will lap this up. Highly recommended.

"You love me, no one else. And you will do as I bid. You will fight for me with all your heart. You will adore me, covet me. There is no other love in your life but me."

5++ stars! So many stars that I can't even.

This book (and series as a whole) is so fucking epic that I have no more words. Caroline and Susanne know exactly how to weave a story that will leave you breathless, terrified, excited, hopeful, pissed off, and downright fucked up in the head with how they've decided to leave us hanging. If you haven't started this series, READ THEM NOW.

Now enjoy some of my favorite golden moments from this novel. **MINOR SPOILERS if you haven't read the previous novels**

- First off, Eric and Montana finally have some peace and enjoy each other's company in this novel! My inner fangirl was screaming with joy.
- The sexy/unwanted/vicious flirtations between Clarice and Julius are PERFECTION!!! I ship them SO HARD.
"You don't know what real foreplay is, slayer boy," she said coolly.
"I'm sure you're desperate to show me your version, but I don't go for blood-sucking parasites who like their men weak and abiding. Not really my thing, Clarice. So you can stop eye-fucking me because we need to go."

- Fabian's note to Callie was PURE COMEDIC GOLD. I actually feel bad for him though and hope he finds his HEA :(
- I liked how the roles were reversed and
- This scene between Magnar and Erik was fucking hilarious!! HAHAHAHA
"Why is he looking at me like that?" Magnar growled, turning his attention to Valentina.

- Erik defending his love for Montana above anything else ♡
- Valentina to her cronies:
- Realizing that Valentina is a fucking psychopath who apparently gets off on BDSM

- That cliffhanger killed me. I cannot wait for more books and the conclusion to all of this epic madness.

My Erik, fiercely protective and unapologetically in love with Montana his Rebel... :)

My Magnar, Blessed Crusader and badass Warrior of the Sun...

Erik and Montana, savoring their stolen moments together....

I’m honestly just tired of reading this much bullshit.
First half, Not bad; second half, boring af.
I hate it when the author clearly has no story left to tell but keeps writing just for the sake of it—forcing some godlike being into the plot who makes it so no one else can do anything anymore, and now everything only happens if that so-called god wants it to.
And what kind of love is that anyway—where the moment some god forces you to stop loving someone and tells you to kill them, you just go “okay” and do it?
I hated Magnar from the beginning but now I hope both Erik and Magnar die in the process. Thanks.
