G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.

(I read this as included in Creatures of the Dark: A Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Anthology. Novella-size.)

Liv and her family and her best friend Ash watch on national news as vampires invade nearby New York City. They watch shaky cell phone camera footage of vampires ripping people apart and then come the angels, streaking on the scene in bursts of light, looking like they will save the population. But instead of everything coming to a close, it turns into a war between angels and demons, with the human citizens caught in the crossfire, watching the city turn to rubble. Liv’s family, in a farming community outside of New York, prepares as if for a disaster, building a bunker in their basement, stockpiling, and hunkering down, because her father knows that it won’t take long before the war spills outside the city, and it eventually does.

I’ve definitely never read a story like this before where the main heroine of the story wasn’t in the thick of the action at all. She was a spectator during the whole of this story, just an average teenager sitting in her living room with her parents, watching everything unfold mostly on TV. And because of not having a first person on the scene viewpoint, we know absolutely nothing of what happened to spur the war between the two species, why the vampires decided to appear and take a bite out of the population, or what the motives of the angels are, if they are actually planning to save humanity, or if they are just out to kill demons. I loved her budding romance with her best friend Ash, and then deciding that through the ordeal, she really needed a friend to lean on more than worrying about how to act around a new boyfriend. I really was hoping they would work things out and just grow into a romance naturally, but it was fascinating watching the emotions play as things happened and have to deal with it with just their friendship. With our world going through pandemic, a lot of the same things happened in this novella, making it feel more real: watching it on TV, pandemonium in the stores as people get supplies, stockpiling, hunkering down in isolation as everything closes up around them, the need to see people after so long in isolation. Did it tempt me to read the book series that this leads in to? Yes. I definitely want to see what happens to Liv and Ash now that the apocalypse had fully set in and ravaged their world.

This is a prequel novella to support the beginning of The fantastic Vampire & Angel Wars series. We learn About How innocence, was lost and a family destroyed by this war. We see the very beginning as both Vampire & Angel descends, throwing humanity into utter chaos. Earth is being used as a war zone, humans naturally believe the Angels are their salvation, unfortunately that couldn’t be further from the truth. Everything descends into utter despair. Homes & families destroyed. Liv’s best friend Asher is her constant & best friend, who’s been beside her for as long as she can remember. Now after months of solitude he may want more, Liv may want more. Life is unfair. This is a definite positive addition to this series as G.K.DeRosa introduces us to this new post apocalyptic world, grandstanding the oppressed society, & secret lives humanity now has to live in, and what forces Liv to leave the safe place her & Asher had made home

Before embarking on the inaugural novel of the series, we gain insight into their initial response to the news, the emotional turmoil, and the relationship between Liv and Asher.

This prelude facilitates a seamless immersion into the character's world. Each page is captivating, with vivid descriptions that allow us to visualize the narrative as if watching a movie.

As the conflict between the two species begins, this captivating introduction undoubtedly draws readers, including myself, into the first novel of the series, where we can explore Liv, Asher, and the destiny of humanity.

What a starter! This story gets right in the gist of the book. Exciting, page turning storytelling. This author does a good job getting you involved, page after page. Vampires and Angels, maybe, fighting while families are getting killed. Liv and Asher are living in hell. Very good storytelling.

Ok

This is a prequel and starts as a teenager who lived about an hour north of NYC sees in tv about an invasion of vampires. When the angels appear, everyone thinks they're been saved. This is a quick book to read.
