Colonel David Cohen risks everything in an all-or-nothing battle to turn the tide of galactic war.

Coalition intelligence has discovered the League’s center of gravity—a deep space logistics base that supplies the enemy's entire war effort. The CDF assembles its largest fleet ever for a decisive attack. For the first time since the war began, the Terran Coalition and their Saurian allies have the means to drive the League from their home turf.

Until they dive head first into the League of Sol buzz saw.

The fleet is forced to retreat after a disastrous engagement to assess their wounds and honor the dead. As the names are read and prayers recited, David can no longer avoid the ultimate question in the face of triumphant evil—why?

However, his internal battle must take a backseat to a war that waits for no one. The crew of the warship Lion of Judah develop a risky plan in a last-ditch offensive to take out the League station.

Or die trying.

In the battle between good and evil, is victory at all costs worth the price?

The first book in this series was a refreshing take on war in space with all the "correctness" currently in favor plus the religious references, the lack of more inspired action made finishing this book a chore.

I have previously read the Battlegroup Z series by this author and I quite liked it. Unfortunately, so far, this series, Echoes of War, has been a bit of a disappointment. There’s been too much discussions, dialogue and way too much religious talk woven into the story. Actually, this book is the first in the series that reaches the level of three stars which is good but it still means that this book is just average.

Still, as I wrote, this book is an improvement over the previous ones.

This I attribute mainly to the fact that there is plenty of action, especially fleet action. The good guys finally goes on the offensive and, although the enemy has some surprises in store, the good guys do start to kick some serious ass. The author know how to write, that is for sure, and the bits and pieces that I do not like with this book (these books) are not poorly written. They are just not my thing.

There is still a bit too much religious discussions and justifications for acting irrationally as well as blaming those who realize that in a war of survival you simply do not play by the sanctimonious gentleman playbook. You shoot the bloody enemy, then you shoot some more and you do not ask questions. Full stop.

I love military sci-fi stories about “duty, sacrifice, and the unseen scars of those who serve.” Daniel Gibbs’ Echoes of War takes you to the heart of this. It has just the feel of the Babylon 5 series it’s publisher’s blurb references (I should know, I watched that addictively when it first aired, and have binge viewed it more than once years later thanks to Netflix). I just addictively ran through Echoes four books, Fight the Good Fight (Book 1), Strong and Courageous (Book 2), So Fight I (Book 3) and Gates of Hell (Book 4). I love the hero of this tale, rabbinical student turned military man David Cohen who needs to “must square the tenets of his faith against his responsibility to crew and country ... in the face of a ruthless regime’s threat to the freedom of billions in his homeland. This is wonderful stuff. Complex, thoughtful yet full of thrills and action. A totally wild ride of a series that is amazing fun to read - and amazingly fun. Be careful here as you may very well find yourself as drawn as I was into reading these books one after the other. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises. This series definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each of these books is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend all of them.

After diving into book three of the Echoes of War series I cannot wait to crack open the next.
First, I have to admit that after reading the part of the sudden and large loss happened in a battle I did have to put down the book for a few days to process before picking it back up for the fallout. I appreciated Lt. Colonel Demood's struggle with his moral compass and strong emotions after so much time and loss in what seems like a never ending war. PTSD isn't something to hide or be ashamed of but something to talk about and work through/with. I also appreciate the way that therapy and counsel are seen as an okay way to get help for things that are out of your control. Yes, there are some quips about 'I don't need a doc' but ultimately it is seen in a positive light as something helpful and not shameful. The 'good guys' are also not so righteous that they do not questions their path of rightness they are currently on. (Although it seems a bit hypocritical that they are now planning to continue their path by being the invaders. Alas, we are all human and fallible). The character development has gone from we are right and the good guys to real people dealing with years on years on a war that seems to have no end in sight. It makes you consider our soldiers at home and what they feel. How lines of right and wrong.... ends justifying means... seem to blur a bit. In this world building the good guys do have their faith to lean into in these times. This often comes with it's own 'duty vs calling' struggles but I have enjoyed that aspect.

I read this as part of a three book audio book set. This review is for all three books: Fight The Good Fight, Strong and Courageous, and So Fight I.

Overall I would give the set a 4.25 out of 5. It was an enjoyable military sci/fi series, with a heavy religious tone. The story was interesting, and the main character arch showed growth. The author had some instances where his time frames were a off, but overall it was well done. I disagree with how one of the situations was handled in the third book, but it was probably more realistic than what I would have imagined. I will probably pick up the fourth book in the series at some point in the future, once my TBR list is down a bit.

Disclaimer: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I felt like I had to slog through this book. Though there are only two battles, it took me a week to get through the second one. Tension and a sense of urgency were absent. In addition to the oddity of using ground forces ranks for some groups and naval ranks for other groups doing the very same military services, all the space battles are fought in two dimensions as if on a terrestrial field with the big ships and escorts barely moving. They have all of space to maneuver and instead slug it out as if stuck in molasses. I also don't understand the need for fighter planes in space battles, unless to glamorize the battle scenes. The Coalition's decision to continue the war by invasion has a terribly hypocritical reason and I won't be reading the rest of the series.

So Fight I (Echoes of War Book 3). My third read/listen from author Daniel Gibbs. An outstanding, enjoyable read, hands down the best science fiction book I've read this year! I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. The book was well-written & flowed smoothly & quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author. I've acquired Stand Firm (Echoes of War #0) and need to fit it into the reading order. I especially enjoyed the narrative talents of Jeffrey Kafer. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Daniel Gibbs may be a new author but it does not show in his writing. His David Cohen is a strong, decisive, compassionate leader with endearingly human flaws and a deep faith. The only other fictional characters that I have found that compare would be Honor Harrington and Alicia DeVries, both of David Weber's devising. (King David is also comparable but he was not fictional.) Anyone who is a fan of David Weber's space operas needs to read Daniel Gibbs' work; they will be impressed.

I received a copy from Hidden Gems and I am reviewing this novel voluntarily.

David is in a major Battle when in difficult circumstances he gets Command of the Fleet..

David and his crew are finishing their shake down cruise and are sent to join the armada and attack a league of Sol installation and Armada.. when the Battle due to new technology turns to the worst the Admiral puts David in charge of the fleet and tells David to get them out of there and bring them back as soon as he can. With a 48 hour turn around and a way to defeat the new technology this is what happens.

This is Book 3 in author Daniel Gibbs' ECHOES OF WAR Series, consistently one of the most fascinating and exciting science fiction series I have read over many decades. Excellently composed, with endearing characters, suspenseful actions, aliens, and a wonderfully compelling religious and moral stance different, refreshing, and heartwarming, each novel in the series expands its characters and demonstrates winningly the character arc of the series' admirable protagonist, starfarer David Cohen.

Space fantasy listening 🎧
Due to eye issues and damage from shingles Alexa reads to me, it is like being at a movie.
A interesting will written fantasy Sc-Fi space adventure opera thriller with interesting well developed characters. The story line is set far in the future with friends, relationships, and war playing an every day part of the characters lives. I would recommend this space novel to readers of fantasy Sc-Fi. Enjoy the adventure of reading. 🚀🎉✨😎

Daniel Gibbs' books get better. I enjoy the way he develops his characters. They are three dimensional. The struggles that they have are realistic for people of faith having to fight. I enjoy knowing that his books are "clean" when it comes to language and sex. I was amused by David's date with Angie and the way it was handled. Great read.

Excellent sci fi book!

This book is very good at delving into the personalities and character of the crew of the Lion of Judah. The battles are fierce, the losses great on both sides, and the thought processes of captain and crew are fascinating. This is another great David Gibbs book that is well worth the read.

An enjoyable sojourn of escapism!

This book builds on past chapters within the series. It has a subplot, which gives all honest introspective individuals pause. It leads one down a path of self examination and hopefully a belief in redemption even for seemingly unforgivable act. It should ask the ultimate question: Is war fought for a believed righteousness cause better because some have agreed upon boundaries to their barbarism or the only true path avoidance?

Straight Forward Good Teading

Some two years ago I read and reviewed this series after reading book one for free. I have read all of them and I'm sure, in another two years I'll feel like reading them again. The spaceflight scenes and the ground fight events have been carefully planned out.

Echoes of War

I loved reading the first three books, Echoes of War. Looking very much in reading the rest of the series. Was unable to put my tablet down. I was kind of put off with all the religious parts in the first book, but after reading the next two books I have a better understanding and hope it continues in the next books.

Good read.

This was another good book with a lot of battle in it most was in space but it also had some good battle going on in a big space station. They had lost about a third of their ships and Marines at the first attack but then things started to go their way but it cost them a lot.
