Christus Vivit (Cristo Vive): Exortação Apostólica Pós Sinodal

Rate this book

Pope Francis

Pope Francis (Latin: Franciscus; Italian: Francesco; Spanish: Francisco; born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 17 December 1936) was the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, a title he held ex officio as Bishop of Rome, and Sovereign of the Vatican City. He chose Francis as his papal name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. Francis was the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere and the first non-European pope since the Syrian Gregory III, who died in 741.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bergoglio worked briefly as a chemical technologist and nightclub bouncer before beginning seminary studies. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1969 and from 1973 to 1979 was Argentina's provincial superior of the Society of Jesus. He was accused of handing two priests to the National Reorganization Process during the Dirty War, but the lawsuit was ultimately dismissed. He became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 and was created a cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II. He led the Argentine Church during the December 2001 riots in Argentina, and the administrations of Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner considered him a political rival. Following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI on 28 February 2013, a papal conclave elected Bergoglio as his successor on 13 March.

Throughout his public life, Pope Francis had been noted for his humility, emphasis on God's mercy, concern for the poor, and commitment to interfaith dialogue. He was credited with having a humble, less formal approach to the papacy than his predecessors, for instance choosing to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse rather than in the papal apartments of the Apostolic Palace used by his predecessors. In addition, due to both his Jesuit and Ignatian aesthetic, he was known for favoring simpler vestments void of ornamentation, including refusing the traditional papal mozzetta cape upon his election, choosing silver instead of gold for his piscatory ring, and keeping the same pectoral cross he had as Cardinal. He maintained that the church should be more open and welcoming. He did not support unbridled capitalism, Marxism, or Marxist versions of liberation theology. Francis maintained the traditional views of the church regarding abortion, euthanasia, contraception, homosexuality, ordination of women, and priestly celibacy. He opposed consumerism, irresponsible development, and supported taking action on climate change, a focus of his papacy with the promulgation of Laudato si'. In international diplomacy, he helped to restore full diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba.

Tập sách tiếng việt mang tên "Tông Huấn Chúa Kito Đang Sống" của Đức Thánh Cha Francis, do hội đồng GM Việt Nam chuyển ngữ.

I began reading this apostolic exhortation in July, and brought it with me to Papua New Guinea and then to Ethiopia. One of the young Salesians in Ethiopia asked to borrow the book during the retreat that I was facilitating, so I loaned the book to him. He was rushing to finish before my departure, but I realized that I could easily pick up another copy once home, so I told him to keep the copy. This is what delayed my completing the reading.

This document by Pope Francis is unique in that he wrote the apostolic exhortation to young people. This is a first. He picks up on all the discussions and testimony offered during the 2018 Synod on Youth, but does not present an abstract, philosophical address. His writing is conversational, moving from the urgency of the times to the simplicity of conversation.

This edition is enhanced by a series of study questions at the end to foster group discussion among young people, as well as among parents and educators. I've decided to use this Apostolic Exhortation, "Christus vivit", in formation discussions with the young religious at Don Bosco Hall this term.

Ako hovorí pápež v exhortácii "Dnes sme my dospelí vystavení pokušeniu vyhotovovať zoznam katastrof a chýb mladých dnešnej doby."

A to ma privádza k hlavnej výčitke, ktorú voči exhortácii mám.

Stačí postoj otvorenosti voči všetkým tým, ktorí majú túžbu a ochotu stretnúť sa so zjavenou Božou pravdou.

Prosím vás, neodíďte predčasne do dôchodku! (143)

“Dear young people, make the most of these years of your youth. Don’t observe life from a balcony. Don’t confuse happiness with an armchair, or live your life behind a screen. Whatever you do, do not become the sorry sight of an abandoned vehicle! Don’t be parked cars, but dream freely and make good decisions. Take risks, even if it means making mistakes. Don’t go through life anesthetized or approach the world like tourists. Make a ruckus! Cast out the fears that paralyze you, so that you don’t become young mummies. Live! Give yourselves over to the best life! Open the door of the cage, go out and fly!”

This was such an encouraging and thought-provoking read, I enjoyed every minute of it!

This is a great read for anyone. I was especially thinking of people who would want to learn more about the Catholic Church’s actual stance on things and not just what uneducated people circulate about the faith.

It’s such a palatable exhortation from the pope to the young people of today, as well as to leaders in the church on how to better interact with young people. Mostly it’s how to live a good life and how to lead with love. Highly recommend!

The first part of the book that I have (I read in Dutch) was the post-synodale exhortation of Pope Francis, the second part was also written by Pope Francis, but focused on sport and how sport can be made beneficial to the education and manifestation of Christian values among youth.

Honestly I found the first part more useful than the second. The second part to me was not that relevant since I don't actually play sports (at least not competitive or with others) and the text remained too theoretical to apply much of anything to my own situation if I did.

The first part however was more useful as I was strengthened in some points regarding my purpose in life and how to be a Christian in the world. Although honestly the book was a little messily translated. There were many typos as well as style errors and even an occasional grammatical error...

Nevertheless, I'm thankful to my mom for giving me this book!

Pope Francis always offers such simple, yet profound wisdom, and this is no exception. Recommended to Catholic ministers and educators who work with young people.
A lovely quote!
"His is a love that does not overwhelm or oppress, cast aside or reduce to silence, humiliate or domineer. It is the love of the Lord, a daily, discreet, and respectful love; a love that is free and freeing, a love that heals and raises up. The love of the Lord has to do more with raising up than knocking down, with reconciling than forbidding, with offering new changes than condemning, with the future than the past."

Beautiful, inspiring and necessary: "For those who are not called to marriage or to consecrated life, one must always remember that the first vocation and the most important one is that of baptism.

To adhortacja skierowana do młodzieży.

Pope Francis continues to move and inspire with this exhortation to the young, and all who minister to them. He proves himself as a Pope for the young, who cares about their dreams and concerns, and thus showing the Church how to care for them, for they are the future of the Church. A must-read for the faithful young, and all the People of God.

This exhortation is uniquely targeted to young people and those who work with them in the church. It is not an easy read but it is also not difficult. I suspect there are not many young people who have read it which is unfortunate because it is not often that a papal writing is directed especially to young people. I can hear his Holiness’s gentleness, kindness and understanding in his words.
