Bob Logan: Gunman at large

Rate this book
You might say, the Civil War gave birth to Bob Logan. A teenage boy on the cusp of manhood, he’s already a manhunter exposed to the horrors of war. Working for a Scotsman named Allan Pinkerton, he’ll leave his past behind for an uncertain future in the west. As a Pinkerton man his identity must be adaptable to match the ever-changing circumstances. His introduction to life on the lawless frontier brings him into contact with James Butler Hickock and William F. Cody. Encounters with hostile Indians, men with lingering post war hatred, and the ever-present threat of sudden death, mold him in ways he couldn’t imagine. So do the charms of a blue eyed, blonde-haired maiden. In a time and place where a young man must grow up fast, he earns the nickname, ‘Bloody’ Bob Logan. With a job description to be one person one day and another the next, will anyone know who he really is? Does he know himself? Set in the days of American Reconstruction after the Civil War, Bob Logan is another thrilling novel for fans of Dan Arnold, Louis L’ Amour, Robert B. Parker or Elmore Leonard, with a touch of Larry McMurtry for good measure.

A great story teller, plus being a great writer is a great conbination. This conbination

hold his readers attention to where he makes it hard to put the book down even when you look up and its 3:00 AM in the morning, not like in college when you had to force you self to study until 3:00 AM.

Good book

Bob Logan's life began in W Virginia during the Civil War. At 16 he was all alone and joined the Union Army under the direction of Allen Pinkerton of the Pinkerton Agency. Those skills took him west after the war. His adventures as a Pinkerton Agent were very exciting and keeps you hanging on for the next twist.

I like it

You can see that the author has thought carefully about all the characters in the series.
The best thing about the books I have read (so far). Is that they are stand alone and can be exactly that without reading the rest.

Good

Good use of dialect. Enjoyed the minor characters of well known westerners. The (un)civil war was accurately reflected. Fast paced and interesting.

I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I was unable to lay the book aside until the final paragraph was completed. Recommend this novel to lovers of the true wild western episodes.
