The Paranormal PI Files #4

One Fae in the Grave

Rate this book
Life isn’t going exactly as planned. I’ve been kicked out of the Crimson Court and forced to move in with a grumpy and irritating (and gorgeous) shifter until I can prove to Balor that I belong with the fae. Luckily, I have a plan. I’m going to take on Nemain, the dangerous fae who wants to steal Balor’s Court away from him. If I can stop her, maybe Balor will forgive the terrible things from my past. But things take a turn for the worse when Nemain wields an ancient cursing stone against the entire Crimson Court. She’s cursed every fae in London to die, including Balor. If we don’t find a way to reverse it—and fast—everyone I know and love will end up in the grave. One Fae in the Grave is the fourth book in a six book series.

Weakening

Huge fan of this book series but this was disappointing on so many levels. First and foremost it was very rushed. There’s a difference between fast paced and rushed and this was definitely the latter. The writer has managed to turn Clark (the MC) into a clingy and self conscious character and it doesn’t reflect the true MC from previous books.

Got through the book in record time after bypassing overly descriptive insignificant things and reiterations. If you remove those the book isn’t long at all.

Things just felt thrown together, not thought out entirely. Not to mention the cliffhanger didn’t make any sense. Okay kill Nemain and have no one on the throne? Is the goal I suppose. Think I’ll pass on the last book and end it here.

I always think I won’t like the next book in this series as much as the previous book, and I’m always wrong…and I am wrong again this time. I think this is the best one yet. Clark is determined to help Balor even after the events of the previous book. However, many secrets come to light and a hint of a huge secret. What will Balor have to do to save his people? I had been wondering about the huge secret, and I think I’m right! Curious about what I’m talking about? Read this book/series and find out! This well-written, enthralling tale will keep you turning the pages. If you are already a fan of this series, you’ll love this latest. If you haven’t read it and like light urban fantasy, give it a try. Highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

3 1 /2 stars. I didn't like this one quite as much as the previous books but it is still very good. Fast-paced with a few twists. Clark once again becomes the outsider as she tries to save the court she sees as home even though she has been banished, but this time she is not alone. Friends in the court are determined to help her and she has made an ally in a shifter. I didn't think there was enough interaction between Clark and the shifter to explain why he would be willing to abandon his strong stance as an independent to help the fae who he does not like. Yes, there is attraction between the two of them, but I just didn't see enough of it to explain why he would risk his life. A few more scenes together would have made their ties more believable.

Balor is a bit of an idiot when it comes to his reaction to Clark but he is a good prince. He won't deliver his court into his enemies' hands even if he loses someone he loves. A good leader won't let his loved ones be used as hostages for his behavior, hard though that is. Of course, that doesn't mean that he has to sit aside and not try to rescue her.

I didn't feel the threat of the curse as I was reading this book. Someone dies of it, but it sounds like far more would have been dying as the book proceeds but it only at the end that it is mentioned a few more had succumbed. There was no gruesome description of how he died or the fear of people suddenly just dropping dead when someone was talking to them. A few more descriptions along the way would have amped up the urgency to find a cure instead of just this vague threat over the court.

I still enjoyed the book and look forward to see where the story goes from here. It sounds like things will never be the same in Fae.

Clark Cavanaugh doesn’t like to be called Clark McCann, but lately that is how the Fae Prince Balor of the Crimson Court and the Fae Princess Nemain of the Silver Court sees her. To both, she is their biggest threat, but also their only salvation. It takes all of Clark’s efforts to fight off Nemain’s attacks and she finds that she isn’t the one that is one step ahead. Nemain has lived far longer than her and is an intelligent Fae that has lots of tricks up her sleeve, one being the Bullaun Cursing Stone. After Clark had been banished from Balor’s court, she still feels obliged to help. However, the pressing truth is that Clark has another option that nags on her mind, Ronan. The wolf-shifter is more than a good enough substitute for Balor…but he isn’t Balor. A life with him would be simpler, a life with Balor pure perfection. As she dwells on her choices she keeps trying to prove to Balor that she is a fae that belongs to his court and would do anything to save her family.

I liked this instalment of the Paranormal Pi Files for many reasons, one being the way Jenna has plotted out Nemain’s skilled attacks. She has ensured that Nemain truly understands that strategy works better on Balor than frontal battles. This makes her go straight for the kill and his biggest weakness. I liked Ronan and the interaction he had with Clark that was just a walk along the line of temptation. I also found the new subject of Morrigan Battle Cries intriguing. I hope this will be a fresh angle that brings exhilarating content for the fifth book.

A good read

Told from Clarks POV, the story continues to develop along with the characters. Sadly we see some characters die and some you wish would die. Clark literally pines for the Prince who is nothing but horrible to her, but as we don't hear his POV, it feels like she's throwing herself at him, which is very annoying. However, he does have a change of heart but still I dont like his reasoning of why he hurt her so much when in fact it was really nothing to do with her. I usually get bored of a story after three books. This is the 4th and wasn't bored but for me its a long drawn out storyline and romance. The back and forward of them getting together was some what a rollercoaster ride. It took all four books for them to realise they were mates which is very strange. Whilst Clark doesn't have much knowledge, the Prince is a lot older and should have known from the start, yet he held her at arms length. In my opinion the story has run its course. I would have liked to see an ending in sight but there are another two books. The story has been different in each book but linked together. I don't see the need of a long drawn out story written in many books. To me its making money and not about reader satisfaction. It would have been much better for all six books to have been bound together in 3 or 4 books with the page filling writing removed. In saying that it really has been a good series to read and one I have throughly enjoyed; even though I only read 4 out of the 6 books. Highly recommended

Now, perhaps I shouldn't have binged on all four of these in one day (They're short, I have kindle unlimited, and some free time-what can I say?). However, there seems to be a lot to do about not much. I guessed about the 'surprise' of Clark's... magic? I guess? Heritage? back in book two when it was revealed what animal she shifted into. I also dislike the prophecy for keeping Balor and Clark apart. There are surgeries that can fix that... Very easy on the male's side. Then use a condom too, and BAM! No problems. I mean, to be fair, I don't actually like Balor very much anyway. He's a hot and cold running, controlling bastard. I much preferred Ronan. Honestly, I only read this installment to see if Clark would pursue a relationship with Ronan instead.

Either way, it was a solid meh for me. I may read the last installment, I may not. I certainly won't be reading it tonight.

WORTH THE WAAAIIITTT

I don't know where to begin. Clark has been banished, but has she? (Insert sarcasm here).

With her being banished and being next to her new flatmate.... The things between them start to heat up almost in every sense (except for the exploding catching fire).

You're going to want to read this book to finish the series. Fair warning, there is a small cliffhanger but at least July is when the other book comes out .. unless the author meant July of next year!!! (That would be a huge plot twist and a bunch of sadness).

Continue with Clark and her journey to try and get back with her court and family. The trials she faces, the problems that arise, and her new relationship that blooms. Find out more by clicking on this purchase!

Loved it

I liked the story in this installment however had some minor issues with the way it was done this time around. Well this book was a bit different than the others before as it ends in a cliffhanger. The others had a problem which was solved at the end but in this case it is not really resolved.
The other thing I didn't like much was that Clark was so desperate to get back to the court life which until a few months back she was trying to avoid. She could have stood a bit more firm and not show her weakness for Balor atleast outwardly. She could have still done info gathering and helping without throwing herself on Balor every time she was in his presence. I am just used to Clark being strong and independent.

Book 4!

This fourth continuation has the reader seeing Nemain going directly for the Balor's throne. There are impossible odds throughout the book and not many are overcome - the good guys don't win much, if at all, in this one- so this particular book had me feeling quite anxious all throughout. It's a short book that I was able to read in a few hours. There is still no sex because, well, balor has the whole grudge thing going on and our MC is too loyal to be a another, but the end brings hope for many things. I must say that I don't think this is going to be an R rated series at this point, pity.

I loved this book, and I loved it a lot. Yes, Clark became clingy, but come on! What would you do in the same situation? I wish I could be stronger :) I liked the twists in the story, I loved to read about Ronan and Clark, and aslo about Balor and Clark. I loved that new details are revealed about Clark, that she is still hardheaded, and would do anything for those who are important to her (nope, not only Balor).
I love how Jenna writes, this book is another well written one, I loved how I could not put it down for too long. I am very curious about the final piece.

Holy crap! I feel like Clark is in a washing machine. Trying to get her shifting prefected, save the Court, get Balor to take her back, help keep alliances together, oh and fight off Nemain. Clark definitely has her hands and wings full. Cursing stone to fae dying this is one crazy book and a bit sad. But the ending, I'm excited to see Clark's big plan for the next book and hopefully take down Nemain.

Meh

The storyline was way to rushed. Once again the main story happens in the quarter of the book and then beginning parts is filled with a bunch of pointless angst.

Clark forgave him way to easily. It’s like she forgot her self worth that was present in the first three books. There was barely any conversation on his betrayal. Very dissatisfying overall, unfortunately I will keep reading because I feel committed.

In the last instalment, Clarke's deep dark secret was revealed and resulted in her being kicked out of the Crimson Court. Tensions between the Fae, Vamps and Shifters hit record highs.
The scene was set for an epic explosion and in this instalment, we get one. Sort of. I mean, shit hits the fan but it was all a bit all over the place again.

Yes, Clarke has been kicked out of the court and she's living with the shifter who'd been helping her in the last book but she's still acting like she's a member of the Court!
I can kind of understand why as she found her home in the halls of the Crimson Court. Her friends are in the Court. Despite some distinctly non-friend behaviour with the shifter (that was obviously never going to go anywhere), she's still in love with Balor (despite them being dooooommmmed) but she just refuses to let it go!
It was infuriating and admirable in equal measure.

Anyway, lots of bad stuff happens... The Silver Princess is making her move for Balor's Court and has stopped any pretence of being sneaky. This would be okay except for the fact that the Silver Princess - Maeve - feels like an evil caricature and I just can't take her seriously and the more I'm expected to the more ridiculous I find her!
Humans are dying, shifters are dying. Members of the Crimson Court are dying... Balor loses something utterly irreplaceable (two things actually) and all seems 100% grim.
The crazy, evil, Princess is winning!
Whatever will happen next? 🤔
Considering the assumptions/revelations of Clarke's heritage, it's fairly obvious but I could be surprised!

I'm two-thirds through the series so I'm obviously going to finish it but I do wonder what over dramatised shenanigans the series has in store for us next.

Blackbirds singing in the middle of the night

Sometimes shifting is for the birds...Clark is trying to learn about her shifter half and save Bayor's throne from the evil princess magic always throws a wrench in the plans. Although she is banned from court she has a bond with him that can't be denied. Sometimes it takes an outsider to set things right.

Good Continuation to an Excellent Story

This is a continuation of our story of Clark and Balor and the rest of the fey. The story picks up a few weeks after the end of the previous book in the series. There are plenty of plot twists and lots of mysteries that have to be solved. The story moves quickly and is very easy to read and enjoy.

These books are very entertaining and I actually really like the main character. There are a few holes in the story that I’ve found, but they’re easy to ignore given how fast paced everything is that happens. I am genuinely distraught about having to wait three whole weeks for the final installment of this series, because I know I’ll devour the 5th in less than a day.

Not my favorite

On the whole I gotta say this book was not my favorite of the series. Way too much unnecessary angst. And it seems as if the whole plot builds builds builds and then unfolds in one chapter the last one. I still am a fan of the series so I will read on. Hopefully this will go back in the direction of the pre ious installments.

One Fae in the Grave

Heart-stopping! Full of action and suspense I couldn’t put this book down. I loved the twists and turns of Clark’s adventures with the Crimson Court. Things are definitely dicey and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for our characters next.

This book is finally bringing closure its still a cliff hanger but more was revealed. The main female character gets more of a history lesson. Looking forward to the next one.

Tension

The tension between these main characters has me on the edge of my seat constantly. You want them to just shut it and be together while also not wanting that tension to end. I am going to be impatiently awaiting the next book!

Great story.

The twists and turns of this story are really fun reading. The pace is fast, but not so much as to leave you lost. The relationships are good, but could fo with a bit more fleshing out in places, but it doesn't detract much from the fun of it.

Loved it. This series had completely sucked me in. A lot of things that bothered me in first books are now being addressed in a surprising way. I’ve suspended all my disbelief and it’s more of a page turner than ever.

Good read

This was a good read though not as suspenseful as the others. A couple of losses that I didn't see coming and finally some sense knocked into the Prince.
